Pre-optometry student looking at applying for an ophthalmic assistant job. Beneficial experience?

There's an opening with offered training in my area for an ophthalmic tech/assistant. Would this be beneficial to my resume for optometry school? I'm not familiar with the types of tests they conduct and if it would overlap at all with things that optometric assistants normally do.
