Hi guys/gals

I'm starting this thread for all applicants this year.

If its not too much to ask, lets try and brief others about ourselves.

I'm a second year resident in Baltimore, hoping to specialise in P&CCM.

I sent in my apps 2 days back - 50 apps in all (by the way - funds for my pathetic existence are welcome)

almost all have downloaded the apps - no news from any though.

I believe they dont send out word until Jan.

Hope to generate helpful data via this thread -
all the best my doomed-fellow-hopeful-internists-who-dont-know-what-the're-getting-into.

all the best - and keep adding
regards,
desi

Hello,

Does anyone have any information about if MSPE / Deans' letter - Is a 'MUST' for applications? I know it varies from program to program.

I am an IMG and the concept of MSPE is not known outside the US. So I probably will not be ale to submit one. Any experience/thoughts are welcome.

Thanks!

One program downloaded my application without the deansletter/MSPE and said i have completed my application and they are reviewing it.

Thanks for your reply. Thats good to hear!

May I ask what prog it was?

dean's letter/MSPE is not a 'must' if you have not graduated from a US med school. The ECFMG acts as the dean's office and submits a blank form in it's place. Even if you have one from your school, I am not sure how much weight it would carry.

Denver rejected - and i'm not surprised

No calls/rejects yet. Most have downloaded application from ERAS but wonder what the timeline for them to send out interview calls is?

Most may come in the new year!

Any experience? or what you may have heard from others?

I contacted a program yesterday fro the 'status of my application'. They asked me to check the status on the ERAS website! To the best of my knowlegde, all you can see on the ERAS website is whether the documents have been downloaded by the program. I don't think it tells you what the status is for each program.

Unless I am missing anything???

Relax my friend
calls take time to come in ,unlike neph and GI
my last call came in april and my first call came in late december.
lotsa time.

Hi Crablegs, how did you do anesthesia critical care after IM? Did you do anesthesia as well? Just wondering how that works as their fellowship is just a year. Thanks.

u can do anesthesia critical care but u dont get any certification (board) that is why i want to do pccm now.

Thanks, Crablegs

I'm curious too if anyone knows of places where you can do pulm only. I know eras lists some places, but they are all east coast and mostly not big name places. I'm wondering if any of the places that list at pulm/CC also have a pulm only option.

Hi Augmel, did u do any fellowship like this or are u applying for pccm or only pulmonary?

No, I am an R2 currently. I was planning on applying but am feeling a little too burnt out right now. Thinking I'll be a hospitalist for a while and maybe apply later. I love the physiology of PCCM but go through phases where I think I'd be fine doing just pulm and avoiding the hectic pace of the unit. Other times I think I really love the unit and could do without pulm. We'll see.

2 rejects so far, colo and IU. Anyone else

The only big name on the east cost that does Pulm and CC separate is Memorial Sloan Kettering. I interviewd there last year, very nice place. Most people there after the first two years of Pulm continue into 1 year of CC but a few go into practice or sleep medicine fellowship bypassing CC.

would this program be a little too weighted towards lung CA? Do they see plenty of ILD and such?qr

anybody knows if it is gud idea to sed MSPE OR transcripts?

mspe and transcripts should be sent, unless really bad. From what i have heard medical school, board scores, and transcripts are the first three things they look at. These three buy you a look at your application or straight rejection.

Applied to 44PG
37PG have downloaded apps
Rejection 1, OSU

Interview 2
Rejection 3
total applied 50
No response 45

I applied to 10 programs. So far 1 interview and 1 rejection. 1 interview at Mayo and rejection at Denver:( Still waiting impatiently for other replies

I think anesthesia CC PD probably has much wt as a PCCM chairman/PD.
You should be fine. you have an IM cert and CC.
not bad at all- I'm sure you will match into a good program.

Pulmo progs usually send out calls beginning late mid Jan.
So I would assume it's not too late to apply yet.

Hope this is gonna be a happy new year. I'm on call in the MICU for new years eve. Maybe I'll just code someone to celebrate, or maybe intubate my intern - he talks too much.

you are not alone, posting this from the hospital...i'm on call to...sucks....if only the new pccm pd's can know how dedicated we are to work....:D

anywayz...will keep in touch and declare the day when i start applying...:scared:

ares sucks but nothing beats AECOM.

Applied to way to many programs.
Till now only 2 rejections (Wash U and U Colorado).
No other news.

D

Contacted few programs last week, everybody saying to wait till the end of the month or early february. But there are some smart guys/gals who got few interviews as well. Some programs mentioned [eg. Wayne stste] that they won't send out rejections as well.

started to hear from programs this week. cinci, vermont, baylor all via email. I havent heard much from others on this thread, any news?

Chicago I heard from in December via email, Denver last week via email, NYU 2 days ago via phone call

Rejection from U of Michigan.
Rejection spree continuing.
I guess LoRs are the key. Though I have some basic + clinical research with decent board scores, with avarage LoRs, I am getting many rejections. As usual, visa issues on board!
