What are the requirements to apply to optometry school (i.e., 1 year physics). Do all schools require the OAT? How many optometry schools are there in the U.S.? Once you apply, is there a secondary application and interview?

I'm not sure if its on the website eyedream mentioned but there is a sheet that lists all of the schools and their requirements--GPA, OAT, classes etc....

Hello:

Here is the direct link for the school specific prerequisites for the 2003 entering class (just updated 12/04/03). It's unlikely that the prerequisites will change for the 2004 entering class, but you should contact any school's academic office if you have any concerns.

All schools do require the OAT. There are 16 schools of optometry in the US with 1 school in Puerto Rico. There are 2 schools in Canada but you have to be a Canadian resident to apply.

Most schools require an interview but that does vary. I'm unfamiliar with which schools have a secondary application. Out of the five schools that I applied to (ICO, SUNY, SCCO, UCBSO, and Newenco), only ICO had a secondary application.

Also, the profile for the 2003 entering class can be found here:

Best wishes,

Rosanna
