Rotators not pulling their weight

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Programs w/ 8 hr shifts tend to have > 20 shifts/month. The RRC has a minimum number of contact hours/month that must be adhered to. I don't think that minimum has changed. The most common shift length that I recall from the interview circuit was 10 hours with usually 17-18/month. Two questions for you: 1) what was your shift schedule and 2) did you get to the ED up hills both ways and in the snow?

My shift schedule with didactics and moonlighting on top

Intern - 22 shifts, 12 hr long. 7 straight nights not unusual
PGY2 - 20 shifts, 12 hrs
PGY3 - 18 shifts, 12 hrs.

And to be honest with you, I felt the ED months were a nice break from the hours the surgeons did. Getting 7-12 dys off a month was GREAT. I could sleep in, go out of town, moonlight. I rarely left the city during my surgery/IM rotations.
