Interesting stuff here. This Ross MD breaks down why they chose the Carib route over DO.. the biggest takeaway was "I wanted an internationally recognized degree"and because of "research "...... like there is even an iota of medical research happening on dominica or wherever Ross is now.... also mentioned how more DO's go into "preventative" medicine , in reality significantly more DO's go into non primary care specialties than Caribbean students. Look at Ross's list almost 90% are community IM or FM bruh....

Also LOL newsflash... there are fewer countries that recognize a medical degree from the Caribbean then do the US DO degree. The hoops to jump for a Carib MD grad to work in say Austria or Brazil is actually more than a US DO grad.
It's rough seeing these disingenuous Caribbean for-profit diploma mills prey on premeds this way. They won't show the attrition rates and match rates vs DO, and compare the number of competitive matches from DO vs Carib because they would get floored.

Seems like she's just inhaling that sweet, sweet copium. I don't think anyone should really take this seriously. It looks like she thinks there's no difference between a Caribbean MD school vs a US MD school.

The one thing I think she has a point about though is that the letters 'MD' are infinitely more recognizable than 'DO', especially internationally. I frequently hear international physicians/students asking what a DO is and claiming that DOs aren't real doctors. I would think that a Caribbean MD would be looked upon more favorable than a DO in the international realm even though it's quite the opposite when it comes to US residencies.

For the last part it's only the recognizability of MD but in terms of countries actually granting practice rights, a degree from the Caribbean has less chances of that than the US DO degree. Many countries seem to realize that Carib schools are shams.

Caribbean also leads you to “preventative” medicine

It prevents you from being a doctor

I'm guessing you meant "disingenuous," unless you think the Caribbean med schools are clever and inventive.

Anyway, the webpage/podcast your shared is just part of Ross U's marketing campaign, so the pro-Caribbean bias isn't particularly surprising.

I keep getting ads from Ross on my YouTube feed. Pretty annoying. This is what pushes folks to pay for premium...
They do produce from mighty flashy propaganda, though.

It's 2022, no better time to get an ad blocker than now

Ohh I know it's just their audacity to post this kind of obvious BS, trying to frame Carib MD schools in the same light as LCME schools lol

I'm not sure why people care about the "international recognition" of the two letters considering 99% of carib grads that match in the US (out of the 50% that apply) would never relinquish the golden goose of practicing medicine in the US to go somewhere else anyway.

Copium, indeed.

I'll quickly break down this international recognition thing...

Canada - Carib grads match at ~15-20%, and can't even apply there if you're not a Canadian PR/Citizen. Matching in Canada as an IMG is a statistical nightmare, much more so than trying your luck in the USA
Australia - They barely have spots for their own grads and international students studying there
UK/Ireland - PLAB/NHS/low wage/practically impossible to match as IMGs. Countless UK docs floc to Australia every year
Anything EU - need EU citizenship +need to pass their language exams first. And then you won't make enough

Just how is this "international recognition" going to help being a Caribbean IMG grad? The countries where you need to be to pay your loans off won't take you. Medicine, even as us American grads, isn't an easily transferrable degree to different continents. Maybe they should be specific about these wonderful international options...
It's just all gimmicks to try to lure potentially oblivious premeds who may be gullible enough(surprisingly) to fall for this stuff. There are still a few uninformed premeds who think that DO's are aren't real doctors or can't become xyz specialists. These Carib schools are targeting those premeds with such marketing strategies.

By “international recognition” they probably mean parental recognition
