So my father is a family doctor and I was wondering if it would be looked down upon if I got a LOR/shadowed his partner? I know it's a DO but I will be applying to DO schools as well as MD schools so it would be beneficial if he was able to write one for me.

You can shadow both, but an LOR should not come from a family member. For the rare MD school or premed committee asking for a physician LOR, providing a DO letter is perfectly fine.
