Starting Medical School in september 2014. I anticipate taking the USMLE Step 1 examination around August 2016 (24 months from now).

I currently have the USMLE FA Step 1 2014. Should I study from this book throughout medical school and then purchase the 2016 version just a few months before taking the exam to do a final review?

Is it necessary to always be studying from the newest version?

The errata in the 2014 version seem quite substantial... Hopefully this will be improved in 2015 and 2016.

Thanks

Keep using 2014, then purchase 2016 when it comes out in Jan '16.

Things don't change that drastically from year to year, so you'll be fine without 2015. You do want to get 2016 as it is updated every year to reflect changes in the exam.

I agree, i'd get 16. I do think 2 years is relatively substantial, and they may add a good amount of useful material in this time (as well as remove low-yield material)

Why not buy 2015 and use that? You'll be able to use the same copy for all of MS2 rather than buying a new one halfway through the year.. I'm an MS2 now and going to use FA 2014 for Step.
