Hi Everyone,
I am reaching out for some advice on my school list and checking my chances. I will be meeting with my school's advisor to further discuss it, but want to enter that meeting with a better idea/maybe a better list. Thanks in advance for your time and input.
Background
• URM (Latinx, 1st Gen, fluent in Spanish)
• NYS
• non-traditional in the sense that it has been >5yrs since I've finished undergrad. I think I've seen that in some previous applications as the sort of pseudo-cut off.
• Will be my 3rd time applying, though I did not apply to many schools on the first 2 attempts.
Stats
>type {Hours, Quality Points, GPA}
• uGPA (@top 50ish uni in the states):
> BCPM: {96, 223.6, 2.33}
> Total: {146, 374.2, 2.56}
• gGPA (@State School): *finishing up another 12 credits towards BCPM
> BCPM: {18, 71.10, 3.95}
> Total: {22, 87.1, 3.96}
• MCAT: 516 131/125/130/130 (2nd time taking, 1st attempt expired)
ECs/Experience Section
• Research: 7000+ hrs
• Publications: 4, none are first name
• Community service:
> Patient Facing: ~90hrs
> Other: ~75hrs
• majority of the rest are jobs I've worked
School list (* = 3rd tier, ** = 2nd tier, *** = 1st tier)
"tier" here meaning my perceived chances of getting in relative to the other schools on the list. With 1st tier being what I perceive to be my best chances relative to the other schools on this list.
• From NY, so I am pretty much applying to all NY schools.
• Saw some "32-hour rule" schools and added those.
• The rest is sort of arbitrary measurement using acceptance rates and grades. Which is why I post here, I need to trim the list and add others I am missing.
• I am OK moving to other parts of the country.
• Open to MD/DO as you will see on the list, but not looking for PhD program.
• Didn't add CAN and TX schools (except 1) because I believe they prefer residents or strong ties.
