Do you not know how to use google?

I just don't understand why people waste time making a thread for questions like these, you can get the answer right away if you just use a search engine.

e.g. If you type "Glucotrol xl" into Google, the very first result will give you the answer to your question.

yeah, extended release. i'm just buggin' cuz it's "eXtended reLease" rather than Glucotrol ER which makes more sense to me. They should just standardize acronyms, unless I'm missing something that it's labeled XL for another reason. If that's the case, now I'm curious...can anyone shed light on this?

Nope...no reason at all. They just do it...maybe they think it looks cool.

Hmm, fair enough. I'm waiting for Viagra XXX.

the drug I hate dealing with the most is Diltiazem. It has so many forms like CD, SR, XT, XR, etc...

are they thinking extra-long for XL, maybe?
Just guessing.

There was a proposal on the table a while back to standardize the acronyms, but I don't remember what happened to it...

Someone probably owned a trademark for the terms they wanted to use.
It costs around $300 to $400 to trademark a word.

You are all too young to remember:

Spansule
Repetab
Extentab

Then there was Pulvules & Kapseals and various other **** made up by the drug companies.....
