What sort of hobbies do you psych students have?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I play in the local philharmonic orchestra. It isn't exactly stress free, what with balancing it with all of my school responsibilities, but I really enjoy playing.

It gets really hot where I live (111 F yesterday) and I love to play golf, but playing during the day in the summer is more of a form of torture than luxury. So ... I play at night! I have a glow in the dark ball and night golf can be a lot of fun.

Going along with the heat ... I love most water sports and activities, even if it's floating down the river for a couple of hours.

and of course I love watching movies.

I sing; specifically, I take voice lessons with a music department faculty member on campus. I mostly do classical (opera etc) but I also love musical theatre. In case you guys didn't know that ;) It's wonderful to have an hour or so per week during which I don't have to think about psychology. Well, psychology is definitely involved in singing, but hopefully you get what I mean.

I also like to read as well as watch TV and movies. I LOVE going to the theatre or opera but it's a little difficult because there's not much in this area, plus I'm a poor student. But I managed to see two shows last year, which wasn't bad. I also like to shop, but that's not as fun when you don't have much money.

Oh, and I play video games, but I haven't done that since winter break. :/

I feel like I spend too much time staring at the computer screen or with my nose in a book. I get a little antsy so most of my hobbies revolve around being physically active and outside. I am part of an outdoor club. I go on one overnight trip a month backpacking in the mountains or biking. It gives me something to look forward to. I also do lots of local kayaking and hiking. I run, swim or lift weights daily. Reduces my stress dramatically and keeps a smile on my face most days.

Always have at least one fun book going in addition to 1 non-required psychology-related book (yes, I call reading textbooks I don't have to a hobby;) ).

Some computer scienc-y things. In the process of building a new desktop computer. Plan on trying to retool my old one into a make-shift tivo. Might see if I can convert it to a web-server too and write software to activate my tivo remotely, just for the hell of it. The irony - I don't watch television all that much.

Used to run religiously (7-10 miles per day) back in the day, and I worked as a tennis instructor for about 4 years. Now... not so much. Becoming disturbingly out-of-shape for a health psychologist:) Still play when I can, but its been harder to keep up on between the FL heat and the fact that my running/tennis partners have generally been other grad students so coordinating schedules can be an absolute beast.

Does watching porn (and manual satisfaction of libido) count? :)

Hope I didn't break any rules, but I started this thread to talk about ways we can get away from the "professional" stuff. ;)

I was half-kidding of course. Though sexual activities can be great stress-reliever and thus highly recommended as a way to combat anxiety and improve general health (and procreate--just to keep evolutionists happy), I would not categorize it as a hobby. Sublimating the libido, on the other hand....

Reading mostly, video games, baking, and crafts. I'm hoping to start painting again, as soon as I can convince myself to invest in a new easel:p.
