Hello everyone.

This might be a sensitive topic to discuss but I'm asking out of curiosity. I wonder what kind doctor will make the most money?

Thank you in advance for joining this discussion.

If we're strictly talking amount of money earned per year, surgical subs generally are the most lucrative. Specifically, neurosurgery, thoracic surgery, plastic surgery, and orthopedic surgery usually top the list. The surgical subspecialists can often have pretty demanding hours, though. Converted to hourly earnings, I would guess dermatology would be closer to the top, though I don't have any actual numbers to back that up.

Here's a Doximity report from 2020 with some specific figures:

I think it's worth remembering that even the most humble full-time physician salaries are in the low 200K range. That's still a pretty comfortable amount of money to live on, and you could certainly raise a family on that alone. Be careful how much importance you put on salary. You need to like the specialty you're practicing to make sure you can do the job for 30 to 40 years and not be miserable.
