As more and more cardiologists shift to hospital based practices..do you guys see cards eventually shifting to shift work like pulm/critical care or hospitalist work? STEMI call is pretty intense and doing it for the rest of your life is brutal...or do you see hospitals working them like dogs while minimizing their pay? i.e. more profit for hospitals

Of course they will work us like dogs.. Corporate will milk every cent out of healthcare until it's dead or in crisis like they did with investment banking. Seems that's the world works now.. Personally I would never give away independence but bundle payments will force most specialists out of private practice into the arms of big systems. Big boys (insurance companies) pay big bucks in congress to maintain that push and adopt changes which are not possible to embrace easily by private practices (meaningful use, bundle payments etc) even though there is no evidence for it. Lobbying=bribery and we as physicians are not doing it at all and corporations exploited our ignorance in that respect. No matter what noble PR campaign (cost cutting and value care) label is slapped on current changes , it's all about big business making more money, nothing to do with patient care. Luckily there is always satisfaction coming from working in most elite and emotionally rewarding profession in the world and helping the sick and infirm.
