Rate my School List

Applying for admission in 2025. I have no friends so got to ask internet for advice 🙁

Male, ORM, NJ resident, 520 MCAT, 3.78 GPA (upwards trend: 3.65 freshman/sophomore, 3.97 junior/senior). 2000 hours as an EMT, 1.5 year research experience with a couple presentations, but no publications. I have a background in data science and machine learning, so a big focus on my app is ways that can be applied to medicine (for example, I made an app that uses AI to give users health recommendations). 50hr volunteering in tutoring incarcerated people.

A couple concerns with my current list:

• Not enough volunteering for service oriented schools like Boston University of UChicago.
• GPA is a bit low to be applying to a lot of the T20.
• Potentially too top heavy? Are there any schools that should be added to this?

Metrics are good.
You've got the equivalent of a year of EMT, which is nice but not a standout experience.
You've got 18 months of marginally productive research.
You've got meager non-clinical volunteering, although the target population is a good one. This is the single biggest gap in your app.

Harvard, Yale, and UCSF probably aren't going to come knocking. If that's your goal then you need to markedly increase your volunteering and get published in a respectable journal.

Well, you're aiming very high as you should, but it's always good to have some safety schools in there.
