SDN Fairgrounds - 10th Annual Noob WW Game

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I had a crazy weekend and I wasn't active today because I was volunteering at first-year orientation all day. I'm also quite overwhelmed by this whole thing bc I've never used SDN this way before. Please bear with me lol. I'm trying to come up with insightful things to say but I'm struggling.
It’s okay, when it happened to me the first game I played, I found comfort in memes and ****posting.

I won't be here for end of day, so I think it's time to switch my vote over.
@WildZoo @kaydubs
unyeet skisks
Yeet T4C

I just haven't seen enough from sk to justify yeeting them. T4C on the other hand has had sketchy things to say today. I don't feel great about them. Especially the tinfoil about wolves having posting requirements.
(plus I trust fruit and if fruit says T4C is being weird...I think that's worth listening to).

Now I can't find the message to see who said that. I honestly don't know who to vote for though I am suspicious of spur bc they were the first one to make an accusation and I feel like droning on about if the Genny stunt was preplanned and why it took the mods so long was an attempt at distraction.

Wait that was sksksk wasnt it? UGHHHHH
T4C is at the top of the vote rn for initially being very defensive and then later this very confusing message. Some of us felt they were trying to confuse us newer players.
I work mostly in the afternoon and evenings on non-clinical days, so I’ve been running errands. Don’t worry, I see the pitchforks and torches now, so I’ll be around. Just saying for the record, Yeet’ing me would be a mistake and the wolves are prob loving the cover.

Do wolves in this iteration have any restrictions from day interactions? I wonder if those not around are absent bc of that or similar? I don’t have a reference for 95% of the players, so I’m trying to think outside of the box until more info is available.
I initially dropped my suspicion of sksisk until their rather lackluster excuse for inactivity and defense of "i'm not the wolf hope this helps."

Okay I must have missed the T4C messages?? I'm losing my mind trying to read all of this and catch up

They do have a bit of tendency to say one thing and do another. but I also get the impression they just don't have high stakes in the game 🤷

You did that to katie tho lol when she was inactive due to being sick. I'm pretty sure that was the first accusatory post in the thread

Technically correct.
I addressed this earlier today, at the time it was more a general calling out of inactive players (with some extra n00b paranoia about day/night cycle). I feel like @katiemcat has now more than adequately explained her absence, though I can understand if I earned some permanent side-eye from katie for that.

Fair enough

Nah we're chill for now.
Hence the "technically."
I feel like i did need to explain myself.

I have prob 10+ years since my last WW. Thank you, but ink prob let someone more I. The know do it.

Elect beans

I was out hiking, my bad! I’ll be around more now that it’s the work week.

That’s a good point, we def gotta be careful.

Have other manatees heard this bc this is new to me. Def need to look out for bandwagoning.

I was out hiking, so reception wasn’t good until the drive back. I feel like me mentioning tor ppl to pay more attention about the bandwagon ppl started the votes against me. Highly sus.

I posted this AM about watching out for bandwagon voting and in <30min there were multiple unfounded attempts to…wait for it….bandwagon vote for me. That’s sus. Too coordinated.

Ok, that makes a bit more sense.

FWIW, 3P players are a new mechanic for me. Last WW I played was prob 10+ yrs ago. Back in my day….

Are these the new “Flat Horsers”?!

For me, it’s purely just not playing in forever and the first day I see my name floated. Someone lamented about going out early/first in another game, and I want to avoid that.

What some think is avoidant or Wolfy is just me being a bit neuro spicy. It’s hard to decipher nuance on here. I actually thought I was being helpful pointing out the timing of posts, but that is….bad? I feel like I play a pretty straightforward way, so getting picked off early is really my biggest concern bc guile and deception aren’t really in my DNA.

CG, you def seemed a bit dodgy, but it was the weekend, so I figured I’d give a day or two before making an initial judgment.

I work mostly in the afternoon and evenings on non-clinical days, so I’ve been running errands. Don’t worry, I see the pitchforks and torches now, so I’ll be around. Just saying for the record, Yeet’ing me would be a mistake and the wolves are prob loving the cover.

I’m skeptical of ppl who want to be mayor and/or those who jump in early on someone. The only vibes I saw were fruit being a bit overly-posty, but that might be them. I post in spurts bc I take breaks throughout my work day bc I’m out-pt and can work more non-traditional hours.

I dunno, I can see a risk/reward mechanism where a wolf could get an extra….something (?) but it’d cause them to be mute for a day cycle. I played at least one game in the past where someone couldn’t post during the day if it was limited in # of words? It was something weird like that.

Okay I think I will go searching for the T4C sussy sussness and then I will update.

Yea I don't really like how that feels. And this is a noob game so not having played in 10 years doesn't really matter and it just seems like an excuse. I also feel like if you are worried about being picked off first and guile and deception aren't in your DNA then you would only worry if you are guilty.

part of me wants to give T4C the benefit of doubt and believe they’re referencing nonstandard mechanics back when they last played WW during the dinosaur era.

but insisting these nonstandard mechanics are possible despite comments to the contrary is a little concerning

I can kinda empathize bc I'm bad at lying and telling the truth lol. Like I worry about looking like I'm lying when I'm being honest, but because of exactly that the last thing I would do is be defensive. being overly defensive is not going to help yourself. What do you guys think

Also the dinosaur era LMAO

@apoptosis09, do you have reason to believe you were targeted, or is this speculation? Overall I dislike "I could have been killed!" as a village defense because it's really easy to claim and hard to support (can't copy mod pms, etc).
Ok here goes...

I think beans is wolf of wolf affiliated. Ik we've been over the mayoral stuff, but
1) held a lead and kept it, basically no one had a chance to beat them
2) is the only one who put me as sus with no real justification after I mentioned the mayor stuff
3) I also didn't vote for them and campaigned for rae
4) after all that, I think I almost got eaten last night
5) despite being mayor, has a pattern of disappearance today - voted for an absentee player and checked out

Umm, why do you have so much confidence in Apoptosis, @sksisk? This is your one read post in the entire game so far.
I have confidence in Apoptosis, as far as sussing anyone out, I am honestly totally unsure but....

If you are skeptical of inactive people I feel like that is a red flag because to me that's an easy way to be like its DEF not me but like look at THEM. and like gaslight others onto other people

(I am leaving for a class, I will be back in a couple hours, THIS DOES NOT MEAN I AM A WOLF) The fact that I got to NCSU and we are the wolfpack is completely unrelated! 🙂

Some would say posting without making any reads or votes could also be "hanging in the background", Spurs. . .

I've never watched Survivor but I'm not totally following the logic of using that gameplay strategy in WW. We catch wolves by voting and reading people's reactions. If no one starts the vote because it's a bad strategy to be the first, what are we all going to do all day? I don't find this logic to be totally village.
NGL... some of this resonates with me. I feel like if this was a more experienced game, the idea of just "hanging in the background" would be an obvious wolf tell. But for a n00b game? I could see a wolf trying to just keep quiet and avoid attention.

But that may not be totally fair. I'll probably be a little quiet next weekend as our family goes out of town on vacay. Idk we have so little to go on!

"I feel bad about this" - you're not beating my "thou doth protest too much" accusation
Alright, I feel bad about this, but I'll jump in.

yeet CeeGee14

I base this vote simply on the fact that they've been inconsistent. Initially quiet, then when they saw their name pop up they did a 180. It doesn't seem fair since in theory we want to encourage people to be active, but the sense I got is that CeeGee is scum who was trying to fly under the radar but was on the DL paying close attention. The other quiet players like T4C, sksisk, etc, could also just be scum flying under the radar, but they could also just be busy, and either way at least it's consistent. We'll have plenty of time to tease out their intentions, but CeeGee seems like someone who got caught and tried overcompensating.

Sorry because mathematically, I'm probably wrong. But somebody has to be the first one out. Happy to convinced to change my vote but that's where I stand for now.

Unless I'm missing something, T4C hasn't shared any reads on other players, just questions and speculation about wolf mechanics and a weird comment about bandwagoning? The vote is going their way and they don't have any reads of who seems village or scum to them? Ehhh

We talked pretty extensively about player engagement earlier, so I found CeeGee's question about it today a little weird. They could have missed those earlier posts, I guess, but something about their logic today feels off to me. They mentioned 3rd party players not being invested in either wolves or village wins, which is not always true, since their win conditions vary dramatically by mod and game. So that's a weird assumption to share as fact. Also the logic of "innocent until proven guilty, silent doesn't mean anything" to "skisk has been very inactive, wolf or 3p?" doesn't totally follow.
Fruit’s flip-flopping plus their reputation as a tricky player makes it hard for me to gauge anything about them, besides the fact that they’re very active. As for the people who haven’t said much, I’d rather not throw shade just because they’ve been silent. I know silence can speak volumes, but I’m operating on the, “innocent until guilty,” principle.
If they were W, I would think they would try and do something after getting called out. Since there’s less W than V, every W counts. Then again, if they’re super busy and don’t have time to check SDN, I guess my rational wouldn’t matter.

If they’re 3p, they wouldn’t care which side wins since it’s still a win for them. They just have to make it till the end, so they’re not super invested in either side. Since D2 is just a vibes check, staying silent could let them fly under the radar while others who have spoken up have their every action scrutinized. Afterwards, they can gauge the situation to see which side they should support. That’s my thought process anyway.

I am very old

NGL, this feels like Survivor (do the kids these days still watch that with me?)... you never want to be That Guy who starts immediately throwing out names cuz it gets you targeted 🤐
This is exactly how it feels. In Survivor (my background noise to fall asleep for the better part of a year) there were "old school" survivors and "new school", with the latter focusing mostly on the social game. I'm very much "old school" in how I think/approach things because back when I last played Obama was still in the White House and Trump was (allegedly) still being a horrible person...but on Epstein Island.

Normally people don't like to age themselves

spiane, thoughts below?
Oh yea sorry I keep forgetting to respond. Tbh I don't have many thoughts bc they still haven't said much. Just chimed in and then said they were off to class so I still don't have a lot to go off of unless I missed something

so T4C, do you know the fabled Rojo?
No....? I think the last WW I played, it was still in The Lounge, though a couple/few vetties prob played. I once bought Pearl Jam's "Ten" on a cassette. For anyone under 35....BEFORE CDs....there were these things called cassettes, ask your parents.

I responded to this a little later and outlined how Survivor is a little different. It isn't a perfect parallel, and obviously we need to discuss so we can sniff out the wolves just like players on Survivor have to eventually discuss who to vote out. But I think we can also readily see how speaking up first can draw unwanted attention to the person throwing out names.

Anyways, even if it isn't your strategy, it's the most similar game that I'm familiar with, so that's the context I came to this came with
"I feel bad about this" - you're not beating my "thou doth protest too much" accusation
Lol, would you feel better if I was casting my vote viciously and with malice?
