I feel like there've been a handful of "Northwell Sucks" kinds of comments in various threads here, but I cam across this YouTube Video on a quiet OB shift. They might be short-changing clinical labor, but they're crushing it on food!

I'm not sure why (well I know why) hospitals don;t go all out in trying to impress with the food service/cafeteria. You can have the best cardiologist in the world but if the cafeteria is terrible, the hospital is terrible and vice versa.

I had a colleague who went to Northwell mostly because his spouse got a pretty incredible job in NYC. From what I gather, if you’re in the tri-state and don’t want to be in academics it’s the best practice. I know some NYers will probably have opinions but from what I gather it’s the lesser of all evils and pays pretty well for the area

Savvy hospital administrators put free food in the surgery lounge, not because they're nice and generous, but because they understand that the efficiency gain of staff eating 10 minute meals in a lounge with computer workstations 20 feet from the OR, rather than 25 minute meals in a cafeteria 200 feet from the OR, is worth the cost. OR time is expensive (profitable).

It's a good PR move too. Pizza Friday! The $200 worth of pizza they'll deliver to the lounge today is a trivial cost but I still appreciate it. A rare case where the hospital beancounters' and my interests directly align.

Of all the things I thought I'd miss, this was an unexpected one. Mmmm, adequate hospital pizza just steps away from the OR and collective bitching session with the surgeons...
