So I've been getting sick of seeing these "Where's the conversion chart for Kaplan Test X?" threads, so I decided to just post the damn thing from Kaplan FL6. I'm too lazy to copy and paste each of them but this should be accurate enough. Each Kaplan test has a slightly different curve, but this should give you a pretty good estimate on how Kaplan scales are. In particular, notice the generous curve for Physical Sci.

does anyone know how kaplan makes it scale? the aamc makes its scale after the tests are taken and the raw score data is gathered. their pool is ~30,000 per test. obviously kaplan can't get that many ppl to take its sample test, so how does it do it?

I just took Test 6 verbal. I got 27/60 ~ 7. I really just can't seem to get verbal right, although I have had moments of glory.

Someone asked how the scales are made. The scales are made through a combination of the Rasch model and pre-testing of items. Because we always build on our exams (we only had to start from scratch with the first test) based on the previous ones and feedback from students, our tests often come out slightly harder than the real test. For those who have completed a Kaplan program, you all know that you'll receive a survey asking you what you scored on the test. That survey is used in conjuction with your previous test scores to scale new tests and re-scale old ones.

Test 10R and 11R are yet unscaled because there are not enough data-points yet to get proper scales for them. The tests should be used only for review, practice and integration of timing strategies.

Are there conversion charts for the kaplan verbal exams? I'm using EK's scale as a guide for now.

Wait, you got a 77/60 on verbal and got a 7. I took the Kaplan full length and got 37 out of 60 right and only received a 5 per the silly Kaplan computer print out. Are you sure?

I took this practice test a couple of weeks ago, and was really mad about my score. I have the AAMC 5R, so I used the conversion chart from that to score my Kaplan FL 3. I got a V-47 P-42 B-37, thinking I got a 22. So are you saying I actually have an 11, 10, 8=29?? I just have to double check because this seems too large of a difference.

Yeah, I dont think you can use those AAMC score tabels for the Kaplan tests because I tried doing the same thing today and the score I got after comparing the AAMC table and the score tables on here from kaplan, my scores were off by like 5-6 points(higher with kaplans score table). So hopefully these Kaplan score tables are right, cause the AAMC ones arent giving such great results.

Does anyone know why these conversion charts are a little more generous than what Kaplan are reporting to their students? My friend just took FL3 and the conversion he was given is a couple of points off from what you guys are posting, which makes a big difference on the 1-15 scale.

from what i understand, the scales are created according to the kaplan's student body and how well they do, so they likely update the scales to reflect this... maybe everyone got dumber/smarter, or perhaps they are starting to find and correct mistakes in their exams, which might change the distribution of points if previous years' scores were not adjusted to account for changes.

Can others confirm that these scales are right (or wrong)? I'm using the scales listed on this thread to find out how I'm doing so it would be greatly appreciated. It would suck to find out a week or so down the line that actually I'm scoring 3 or 4 points lower than I thought.

what i've been doing is taking my raw score and comparing it to multiple scales. it's not like whatever we're practicing with now is exactly like what we'll see in august, so instead of worrying about an exact number, i've been tryiing to look at the estimated range.

These scales are indeed accurate. Kaplan's FLs are harder then the AAMC Practice Tests. Thus, they give you a generous curve. The curves are generated from comparing Kaplan students' results on these tests from previous years.

Bottom Line: Don't convert your raw scores on Kaplan FLs with AAMC scales, it'll be way off. Keep on using these Kaplan Scales.

Okay I just took Kaplan FL 1 physical sciences section and I scored 41/77! Now that is about 54% correct I was expecting a 5! (it was really difficult damn magnetism! damn electrostatics!)

Now I look at this chart and it states I get a 9??? That seems incredible...

Any opinions on this??

Like I said earlier, the scales are accurate. The reason why you got a 9 is because that particular PS section is extremely difficult, which you described accurately.

In general, the harder the test, the more generous the curve. The easier the test, the harder the curve. Good job on the 9. :thumbup:

I can't vouch for any other scales posted, but the ones that I put up earlier are correct.

Kaplan FLs are the same in all the courses right? I took an April Course and I am wondering if these conversion charts are for the same exams I have.

Could someone post the score conversion chart for Kaplan Full Length 7? The test 7 found here is AAMC test 7! I know because I checked the conversion and they are dead on! Thank you very much

I believe you are mistaken. The aamc 7 score chart is a lot different then the one posted.

I earned a 30/60 on Kaplan FL 7 verbal. If I use the conversion charts for FL 6, 8, or 9 then I find my score corresponds to a 9!! Could someone confirm what a score of 30/60 = on the FL 7 conversion chart. By the way gotgame83, I can not view the conversion charts from 5-8 that were uploaded. I can only view the test 7 found on the second page where the conversion is clearly not for Kaplan test 7!! Thanks

Oh ok, the MS word files posted by caboose seem to be correct. Using those charts a 30/60 on FL7 corresponds to a 6.

a 9 seems rather high for 50% correct. eh whatever i believe you, too lazy to look it up.

This is what Nekbat posted for FL7 (See below). Unfortunately, Nekbat posted a scale in accordance with AAMC tests, not Kaplan FL7!! How do I know for sure you ask? I used to have the real score conversion chart for FL7 and it resembled the conversion charts for FL 8 + 9. The real score conversion chart for Kaplan FL 7 looks nothing like this one. After you take this exam you will see exactly what I mean.

Nice rule for the 10 emails, although I noticed you got a few more on the main thread you posted. Files must be 100KB or less to ride and that just ain't fair.

LoL I had to pay some guy $10 for them a month ago and then they popped up on ebay for $3.99 but ebay killed the bid fast. I know that I've had a hard time finding them so when I finally did, I felt compelled to spread the love ;) I ended up e-mailing out about 20, because I got requests in PMs too. I just couldn't turn those people away :oops:
