I would second this. the nycom match list for 2005 is in the nycom 2010 forum - Philanthropist put this together a while back  . although i've seen students from other schools go into competitive specialties, i haven't seen them go into hospitals as good as the students from nycom go to. (cleveland clinic, st. barnabus, st. vincents, etc). this could be for any number of reasons of course, of which personal preference is one. i suppose it depends on how you define competitive - institution or specialty or both?

disclaimer - i've only seen the match list for 3 schools (those to which i've applied): nycom, pcom, & umdnj-som.

CCOM is pretty impressive. PCOM is supposedly very impressive since 70% of the graduates match in something other than primary care.

Match-List, smatch-list...

Go to the school where you will feel most comfortable. It's extremely important to do well in your pre-clinical and post-clinical courses, as well as rock the boards. This will be harder to accomplish in an unpleasant environment.

The better determinant of what specialty you match is your performace, not the school's matching history.

I think DMU is up there as well (that is from the schools I looked). I think the state schools are pretty good as well.

Match lists are subjective to personal preference, class profile, class size, and whatever other variable you can throw in there so there is no way to compare match lists from one school to another. If you do well on your boards (you take it, not your school) and impress the right people (through your hard work, not your school) you can match into whatever specialty you choose regardless of the US medical school that you attend. However, which hospitals you rotate through to impress the right people and your access to these rotations does have a lot to do with the school you attend. So, in my most humble opinion, rather than looking at match lists you should ask students at the schools you are interested in where they rotate, what they think of these hospitals, how easy is it to access these hospitals, what residency programs are available at these hospitals and through their school, what patient populations do they see and how much diversity is there, and if there are students from other medical schools at these hospitals how much learning they get to do or do they get lost in the crowd easily. I cannot tell you how often people interviewing at my school don’t even bother to ask or wonder about the clinical years, focusing their questions on the classroom years, which is similar to what goes on here on SDN. I feel that is a big mistake and tell them about our clinical programs. Just my $0.02

CCOMs match list is quite impressive i have to say. I counted somewhere around 48 people who matched at academic hospitals including: Northwestern, Rush, Loyola, UIC, Medical College of Wisconsin, Minnesota, Mayo and John's Hopkins. A lot of the other hospitals are very good as well.
