O.K., here is a thread devoted to mandatory, short notice/no notice Computer Based Training/surveys/tasks that prevent military physicians from caring for patients and/or returning to their families at night:
1) Smallpox video
2) Smallpox course
3) HIPAA
4) HIPB
5) HAZCOM
6) VRED
7) Information Systems (IM)
8) Pain management
9) Medical Team Managment
10) Annual Recurrent Training
11) CBRNE
12) Ethics training
13) Anti-Suicide Training
14) DMHRSi (time sh*ts)
15) AFIADL
16) Anti-terrorism training
17) vMPF
18) MyPay
19) OPD (tOPD in my day)= dream ****
20) Annual Climate Surveys Which No One In Power Reads
21) Oops! I exceeded my e-mail quota and I can't send e-mail any more
until I delete critical messages...
(added by contributors below)
22) SATE: Security Awareness, Training, and Education (yet techs are still allowed to install spyware in order to watch rap videos on duty)
23) anti-TIP Training, aka "Combating Human Trafficking", aka "Here's a TIP: Don't be a drip, keep it zipped": http://usinfo.state.gov/gi/Archive/2004/Sep/24-440268.html
24) Sexual Harassment Training (the final exam is great! Remember: No means Yes!)
25)...(pending)
Please add to this list, active duty docs...thanks...
Non-CBT Timewasters submitted:
1) Anti-Suicide Day (separate from mandatory anti-suicide CBT; we sat around in small groups and learned we shouldn't off ourselves, because it made our superiors look bad)
2) ORM (Operational Risk Manglement) of all flavors and colors
3) Shipboard fire fighting
4) PHA: Preventive Health Assessment by techs with barely a 12th grade education (My official PHA record states that my father had "basil cell" CA; my BP went from 137/71 in 2001 to 148/94 in 2002 [after 9/11, my LOR, on call qod for months] without any follow-up)
5) Mandatory weigh-ins for everyone (not just people on the edge, such as myself toward the end)
6) Safety Day: Do Not Run With Scissors!
7) Wing Stand Up Meetings
8) Squadron Meetings
9) Flight Meetings
10) Medical Corps Meetings
11) "Professional Staff" Meetings, to include Assistants to Physician Assistants' Assistants.
12) Coerced donations for AFA, CFC, and other "voluntary" charities measured by thermometers at the front gate, which Squadron and Group commanders use as symbols of their relative abilities to twist the arms of subordinates to contribute their hard-earned bucks, so that the U.S government can underfund our young airmen to the point that they need foodstamps and AFA to survive.
13)...(pending)
Of note, I have been in private practice in the civilian world for more than a year now, and have never been required to read my e-mail. Never. Interestingly, this has had zero effect on my ability to care for patients. Something to look forward to, me droogies...
