Cycloketocaine... (NCAA Football rambling thread)

lets hear how #2 WVU got slighted because Mizzou is a big 12 team...

Eh, whatever. Missou is a good team. Every time I've seen them play, they've been impressive. I have no problem with them at #1....or Ohio State....or, hell, Hawaii...why not...

Have to give it to Missouri... I'd put Hawaii up there too (undefeated, for what it's worth). WVU at #2 or #3. 👍

BCS stinks though. Anyone in the top 5 (at least) has a good case for the Championship.

If I was to pick who I'd want on my team, he BEYOND A DOUBT would not be one of my first 10 picks. There are players at other positions that are better at their position than he is at his. Many I listed above. But being as the Heisman goes to the best offensive skill player (even though it takes more skill to be a lineman...), I'd put him at #2 behind McFadden. I've seen McFadden play about 4 times, Tebow more than that....and McFadden has wowed me much, much more. That's my opinion, I don't have a dog in the fight, freakin' deal with it, ya Gator homers....Jesus....

heh...I've got no beef with you thinking McFadden should get it over Tebow...it's worth the debate. Dropping his stock to # 10 - 20 is when I'll call you on it though.

On a sidenote...how did the hook 'em horns sign make it on here? :horns:

I think it's idiotic Tebow should be the heisman winner....the dude has 3 losses to his name this year...If anybody should be considered, it's Colt Brennan, Chase Daniel, or Pat White...You should have at least perfect or almost perfect record to even be considered for the award

Does that only apply to QB's because they're seen as leaders of the team though? Seems like we'd let other positions slide with that standard...

There've been plenty of Heisman winners (outstanding players) whose team didn't have a perfect/almost perfect season:

3 losses @ time of vote:
Vic Janowicz, Ohio State, 1950
Ernie Davis, Syracuse, 1961
Jim Plunkett, Stanford, 1970
George Rogers, South Carolina, 1980
Bo Jackson, Auburn, 1985
Tim Brown, Notre Dame, 1987
Ricky Williams, Texas, 1998

Go 'Cuse! 😀

(I'm just looking forward to basketball season)

How could you say such a foolish thing? Mizzo sucks!!!! I don't care if they did win.

Since when does having the 19th ranked strength of schedule, knocking off three ranked teams (Nebraska was #25, and Texas Tech was #22 when they got beat), beating Illinois (the only ones to beat Ohio State) make you suck? They lost to Oklahoma on foolish mistakes. They made some stupid mistakes last night and picked off #2. I'll take foolishness for now...

I think it's funny how the media is JUST NOW starting to bitch about how much of a sham the BCS is....mainly because they are, as of right now, getting a matchup with two teams representing smaller media markets and lesser national followings. I want a damn playoff.

Of the top 5 teams I would have to cheer on the Mountaineers. It's hard to say, but I did.

Colt Brennan deserves the Heisman. or Dennis Dixon - it sucks about his knee but he was phenomenal until then.

thankfully USC is getting their **** back together and hopefully can hold onto it.

we're just hoping hawaii beats washington this week so we can get to a BCS Bowl. (my boyfriend has a serious man crush on Brennan)

shut it.

thank you for this. maybe caverject will shut up now. tebow is #1 all the way.

I don't get why 22 rushing TDs is impressive in this case. He only ran for 838 some yards on 194 carries. Guess what that means....Meyer has been allowing him to pad his stats. That's only 4.3 yards/carry. To compare, Pat White ran for 1144 on 163 carries (and he still has one more game) averaging 7.0 yards/carry. His YPC isn't impressive at all. Just compare it to other rushers.

His passing number are ok, though. They don't stack up with the truely elite passers like Brohm, Daniel, and Brennan - but with the exception of Louisville, the Florida attack is more diversified than the aforementioned offenses.

After thinking about it more, I'd say:

1) McFadden
T2) Brennan
T2) Tebow
T2) Dixon
5) White
6) Hart

McFadden will take it.

ANYWAY.
Here's my BCS predictions:
BCS Championship Bowl: Ohio State vs. West Va
Rose Bowl: USC vs. Illinois
Sugar Bowl: LSU vs. Hawaii
Orange Bowl: Va Tech vs. Missouri
Fiesta Bowl: Oklahoma vs. Georgia

I'm pretty sure I'm the only person around that thinks Missou will win Saturday. Everyone and their brother has OSU-WVU in the final. I'm going with Missou-WVU. Really, I don't care about the fake championship....I just want to crush Pitt...and crush them mercilessly. The extra game in New Orleans is an awesome bonus, though.

Actually...I am with you and I'm picking Mizzou by two touchdowns over Oklahoma

If Chase Daniels throws for 300+ yards and 3 TD's with no INT's over Oklahoma, it would be an absolute travesty if he did not win the Heisman

From a girl's point of view...Tebow's the hottest. He should get an extra vote for that.

The losses were because UF had 10 new starters on defense. They are young and inexperienced. Even then, the losses to Auburn and LSU came in the final minutes of play. The Gators led in both games until the end. I can't blame Tebow because the defense melted down in the waning minutes of those games. The loss to Georgia was legit. They outplayed the Gators.

Sherman...what you think drug rep?

Great hire.

We wanted him in 2002 but we thought he was too big of a name.
He brings a much better NFL record than the most NCAA-NFL coaches including Pete Carroll.

Not saying he'll be the next Pete... but I certainly don't think Sherman will turn out to be the next Chan Gailey.

Sherman coached us during our one of the most prolific times at A&M.

We welcome him with open arms.

You people should see the **** people going to the WVU game this weekend are being put through. Full searches and pat downs at the gates, 5 platoons of state police with an entire pack of attack dogs, 4 snipers in camo with that nonlethal bean bag ammo, and twice the yellow-coated security presence.

They REALLY do not want us rushing the field.

you're making excuses...80% of the Gator Offense (Tebow) didn't score enough points to outscore the other team. Plain and simple...

yeah...maybe more like Bill Callahan or Dave Wannstedt instead of Chan Gailey :meanie:

That's a lot of "we's"...you the official Aggie spokesman?

What do you think about the plus-one game after 4 BCS bowl games?

That would just screw everything up some more. You'd have the winners of the 4 games complaining that they deserve the shot....with reason. Maybe a "+3"

Knock the cream puffs down to 1 or 2 at the beginning of the season, penalize playing D2 school and take the top 16 at the end of the season. Much better then smacking D2 teams until conference play and having the dorked up BCS system.

And RXBound, Moooo lost to OU because you got beat the second half (or stopped playing the second half) no different the KU losing because they only showed up for 20 minutes of a game (in the middle) making the score closer then the game.

Excellent....

If you only sleep 3-4 hours a night every night and still don't ever feel tired, does that make you crazy? I hope so!

Apparently crazy enough to come up with a Harold and Kumar sequel. 😉

It sounds like Bo Pellini took the Nebraska job as well. LSU will need to reload the coaching, maybe this is the time to have the guy from Buffalo, Turner Gill, drop into the head spot. Five wins at powerhouse Buffalo isn't anything to sneeze at and he's had NCG experience (x3).

As a side note, I have a gentlemen's bet with a buddy about red-shirting at the service academies, anyone ever heard of that? I actually thought that in their systems it wasn't possible to wait a year class-wise.

Going to the game tonight?

Of course. I'll attend the rioting in Sunnyside, too. (Which is scheduled to take place win or lose.) Though I will attend as an observer, not a participant. I'm not down with spending the night in jail over in Doddridge County.

LSU played pretty valiantly today. UTennessee was hard hitting and a lot of the LSU players seem injured. Hopefully a month helps and they'll be ready to go.

Also, Turner Gill's a good guy. I've seen one of his games this year and he's a good coach- you could tell when a coach is making good decisions. 👍

Apparently LSU's keeping their coach (or at least their current coach is saying he will stay in response to speculation he will go elsewhere). I'd really liked to have seen Turner Gill back at his Alma Matter. He's going to be a well-known coach for a top25 team one of these days...

Wow...talk about irony. 😱 For anyone's team to mess up the standings, it had to be yours. I'm feeling for you!

This is the craziest season in college football ever. #1 and 2 both lose on the last weekend. It looks like it will be Ohio State against a 2-loss team, maybe LSU, in the NC game. Unbelievable.

Except losing to the same team twice in the same season.😎 Thank you Missouri...

No losing to your rival is worse, especially when it's an unranked rival and you're a comfortable 20 point favorite. But losing to the rival is worse.

Now the money men have their OSU/LSU game.

Althought OSU has no business in that game after losing to Illinois.... AT.... HOME... but two teams have to be in the game and no one over the last couple of weeks seems to want to play in it.

This will go down as the year teams ran away from the NCG.

LSU is number 7 in the BCS as of last week. It'll be a cold day in hell if they jump all the way up to #2. My money is on Georgia or Kansas.

There needs to be a playoff.
