Hi, I'm not a Pre-pharmacy student, but I was at one time. I'm graduating in August and am considering taking the rest of the prerequisites to apply to pharmacy schools. Does anyone happen to know some of the easiest ones to get into?(GPA??) I'm from Texas and I know I've heard that Texas Southern is, but I'm not sure. Any help and info. would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Are you looking to stay in Texas or will you consider out of state schools too?

Anywhere at all..well in the U.S.

This is a great "at a glance" look at most school stats for 2002.

BUT, I would question why you're looking for the "easiest schools to get into, anywhere in the US" when you will have a 4-year degree and (I'm guessing) some pharmacy experience. State schools mostly accept in-state students, or outstanding out of state students (at twice the tuition). There are 3 year, 4 year, and accelerated options for some 4 year programs. Private schools usually take more students from out of state than public. You also need to check your pre-reqs with the schools that you're considering, since there is no set standard.

Nobody wants to "put down" anyone else's school here, so I doubt that you'll get many useful replies regarding the "easiest schools". For whoever mentioned University of Missouri, they only took 17 out-of-state students in 2002 and had an average GPA of 3.3 with a 3.8:1 application to enrollment ratio. I wouldn't call that "easy", and I'd imagine that it's only gone up since then.

Do some research about the schools that you're looking into. Remember that if accepted, you're going to not only spend 4 (or 3) years of your life there, but also carry that reputation for the rest of your career.

Good Luck!

🙂

I strongly urge you to consider a different TX school if possible. Texas Southern is legendary for their massive exodus/near loss of accreditation during the late '90s which they haven't recovered from yet. One of our faculty was on the visitation committee to the school, when this letter showed up.

Harrell

The school fell into total chaos due to a cheating scandal at a pharmacy frat and pretty much the entire faculty resigned en masse. That, and their board passage rate is always the lowest of the Texas schools (even the new school Texas Tech).

i've only been recently aware of the pharm d forum in the student doctor network and have been reading all the interesting and pertinent threads. i want to thank jdpharmd? for the 2002 school stats, something i haven't been able to find by myself, so thanks.

BMBiology actually found them, I just bookmarked it. 😉 I hand it out like it's candy on halloween. It does give a "quick and dirty" look at pharm schools, but I assure you that there is much more to consider. Hopefully we'll see the 2003 stats sometime soon.

Are you a Texas A&M Aggie? I was a Genetics major there. Great school. 🙂 Too bad they don't have a pharmacy program, although I think the Kingsville campus will have one soon.

I personally don't think that any pharmacy school program is going to be easy to get into this year. There are so many applicants that the schools can be VERY picky. You definitely have to offer lots more than high GPA and test scores. Just a thought: I think some people will take advantage of the convenience of pharmcas to apply to lots of schools, even if they don't really want to go there, and selfishly block interview and acceptance slots from other students that really want to be there.

edit: Good news, none of the TX schools are participating in pharmcas...yet.

I agree 100% and I feel sorry for the people who have to wait until the week before school starts to find out where they're accepted because of it. I think that it could get really rough. Nobody likes to wait. I'm taking bets on the % that applications will go up by. Ok, not really.

Right, but in terms of the classes one needs to have in order to get in, their standards are somewhat lax. It's not difficult to get a 3.3 if you haven't taken O-chem (their 1-5 track does not require it for admission).

Right, but their 1-5 track DOES require 4-5 credit calculus with analytical geometry (oh fun), and is a FIVE year program. That wouldn't make much sense to someone who already had a 4-year degree and then has to take pre-reqs (10 year plan?) The ave gpa listed on their website is a 3.442, and of 309 applicants, only 75-80 were accepted. Of those 80, 84% were Missouri residents. They also require 3 letters of rec, PCAT, and an interview. 13 out-of-state students accepted. Doesn't seem so easy to me.

Hey, thanks for all of the info. I appreciate it a lot. It all has helped greatly.

Also I wasn't trying for find the easiest school...I worded that poorly and I apologize. I was actually trying to get an accurate view of the GPAs of a few schools that I couldn't get information on. Which the list cleared up very nicely.

Oh, and YES I'm a Fightin' Texas Aggie. I am a senior this year and am looking for different avenues to take after graduation. Thanks again.

Oh boy! We got someone that thinks a great friday night is to go to "Scream Practice"!! (A cheerleading practice the day before the big game the next day) 🙂
Welcome to the forum. Franchone should make it intersting this season

Hey thanks South.

Yeah, we're hoping that he turns the team around and gets away from the R.C. Slocum strategy.

And by the way....the "cheerleading practice" you refer to is called "Yell Practice".

Best regards.
