I'm a reapplicant. I accidentally submitted my AMCAS last year without including a class I dropped freshman year.

When I was verified, it wasn't corrected or added. There's also no place to signify a dropped course. I just recently saw my transcript upon graduation and realized that the class is indeed on there denoted by a "DR"

On amcas do I call it a withdrawal, even though my school has a different definition of withdrawal, or since they didn't include it last application cycle, do I just leave it off?

Thanks.

Maybe you should ask your undergrad institution what the DR signifies (obviously it means drop, but say you want a more specific answer). Did you drop the class within the add/drop period, or outside of it? Maybe your school uses DR as a euphemism for W. Contact 'em ASAP.

Well... the office is closed for the day, but in my catalog I found this:

"Dropping a course: To drop a course, students must obtain a drop/add slip from the Office of the Registrar. The effective date of change in registration is the date the form is submitted to the Office of the Registrar. Signatures of instructors and the adviser must be obtained on the form. A full-semestercourse may be dropped through the sixth academic day after midsemester break. A block course may be dropped through the 20th academic day of the block. After the final deadline, a full-semester course cannot be dropped.

Full-semester classes dropped after the tenth academic day and block or summer classes dropped after the fifth academic day will be noted on the student academic transcript as “DR” (dropped course). Students dropping ALL classes (withdrawing from college) after the aforementioned dates will have “W” noted on the transcript for each dropped course."

So, I dropped before mid-sem break, but after the 10th academic day.

This sounds like a traditional "W." I'm just confused why AMCAS verified my app without amending my omission.

It sure does. I don't know why the verifier didn't catch that. If I were you, I wouldn't bank on getting that lucky again. Simply list it. A W won't end your aspirations.

I just rectified it in my AMCAS now, thanks for the help everyone.

(I'm still really confused why that wasn't caught last fall...)

Now to write that new personal statement................ *Gulp*

I know that an official transcript is needed to be sent out from my 4-year undergraduate institution. However, if I've taken 1 class in community college during a summer (and I've listed it of course on AMCAS) do I need to request an official transcript to be sent out to medical schools from that particular community college OR since it shows on my undergrad transcript that I've transferred the community college credits over to my 4-year institution do I have to avert that process?

[[THANKS IN ADVANCE]]

You will still need to send an official transcript as well. I had over 23 credits transfer from a combination of schools from HS and I still have to send in official transcripts. Hope that helps!

I disagree - I think it sounds like a dropped course. Only 2 weeks to drop? My school gives 8! Call AMCAS.

Thanks..

just another question: do medical schools apply their AMCAS GPA Calculation based on courses taken in community college as well?

Where were you when I first asked this question...

Any other thoughts out there?

Well you can still change it - not like you've submitted already.

Call AMCAS and ask. Technically their instructions say that a dropped or withdrawn course is to be shown as a W. But that seems odd that your school designates both a dropped and W signification when most people drop a course it just doesn't show up at all.

I finally got through to AMCAS this morning. The lady got annoyed with my question and just told me to list it as it is on my transcript, so it's not a W, it's a DR.

I suppose I did see that instruction, but still, they didn't delay me last year.
