Hey all you Utah hopefuls,

I was wondering if anybody else got the "your application is being evaluated" letter? I hope it doesn't mean anything.

That's secret beehive state code for "you don't gotta chance; why did you even bother applying?"

No... actually, I think it might mean that "your application is being evaluated". Just a hunch.

Hey Tristan,

I got the same thing this afternoon. Mine came by email. How 'bout you?

The weird thing is, and I'm sure this is purely coincidence, I called about 1/2 hr before the email was sent, inquiring about my application.

I really don't think I can wait until the first week in april for a decision.

Conure,
I guess I failed to mention that it was an email. I was just wondering if they send that to anyone.

By the way, did you get a third interview? Three of my friends did. I don't really know what it means except that I didn't get one. Anyway, I don't think I can stand to wait one more month. This is the biggest torture.

I received the email too. I think the underlying message is that they want people to stop inquiring about their status. I stopped by the admissions office a couple of weeks ago and they told me they would be done interviewing by the end of February and that we should hear from them late march/early april - basically what the email said.

About the third interview - I think it usually means that your first two interviewers didn't agree (i.e. one liked you, the other didn't).

Got the same email. Don't give a crap about Utah and their admissions process because it would tak some serious convincing for me to go there. Stupid 3rd interviews, what a joke!

I got that email too...and the funny thing is, I got almost the exact same email in December.

I am so tired of the admissions process, I could scream!

And I did get a third interview at the U. From what I understand, it does mean that one of my interviewers voted me down. I am certain it was the med student (she was weird and not very nice). And they say med student interviews carry slightly more weight. I feel really, really screwed when it comes to getting in to the U.

I've been to quite a few interviews at other schools this year, and I like most of them a lot better than the U med school. Honestly, I almost don't want to go to the U anymore. And if I really don't get in, they can bite me.

Everyone received the "your application is being reviewed" e-mail. I also underwent the 3rd interview. Since I live in Arizona it was over the phone, and I hated that format. So, I think I bombed the third interview . . . but as we've read so many times here in the forums that usually means you did well. At this point, who know??? I'm just so glad that my future is not hinging on that decision. I at least get to wait to hear from them with an acceptance under my belt.

Yep, I got the email too, and the third interview. A lot of people hate the third interview, but I think it saved me. I know I bombed my second interview, (with the student). I was drawing blanks to all of his questions. So, I'm sure I'd have a nice rejection letter in my hands if they weren't willing to give me another shot. I'm a fan of the third interview. Who knows, maybe I'll get canned anyway. Good luck to you all!

Has anyone heard from Utah recently? I heard of someone that received an acceptance on Thursday. I was under the impression that all the final acceptances/rejections/waitlists would go out together. Has anyone received any word or know any different?

later

I haven't heard anything from Utah for awhile--no personal communication, anyway, after that email.

I also haven't heard of anyone getting accept/reject yet, but, then again, I'm not always in the loop. They have stopped interviewing (end of Feb.), so it's plausible that people might begin seeing final decision letters. As I understand it, the bulk of the final decisions will go out the first week of April, but a lucky select few will receive acceptances on a rolling basis.

I, obviously, am not of the extraordinarily select few. But I am keeping the hope alive.

Question: Has anyone written any kind of letter of interest and/or intent to Utah? If you have, what kind of response did you get? Some med students on Interview Day highly recommended writing a letter of intent to Dr. Judd, but, as I understand it, she is a non-voting member of the Admissions Committee. Would writing a letter do any good at this point?

I am not one of the lucky select few either. (sigh. . .) I have not even heard of anybody getting a letter lately. Just a few more weeks to wait. . . As for the letter of intent, I heard that March first was the last day that they would accept any supplemental materials. I sent a letter about a week before that, just informing them of some changes in classes and such. I also threw in a line that conveyed my continued interest in attending the U of U. Good luck!

Dr. Wayne Samuelson, Associate Dean of Admissions, and Dr. Victoria Judd, the former Associate Dean of Admissions, are both coming to Boise State University this Wednesday to give a presentation on their school. Perhaps I should ask them why I didn't get an interview even though I followed all Dr. Judd's advice from the post-rejection interview she gave me last May.

Perhaps I should ask them why I didn't get an interview even though I followed all Dr. Judd's advice from the post-rejection interview she gave me last May.

Totally do. While you're at it, ask them why the system is so arbitrary.

And send them my love.

Hey guys,

I spoke to another applicant, and he said he received his acceptance letter last week. He even said that it came in a
big envelope. So if we're waiting for an acceptance, maybe it
should have arrived last week. Yup, I know. This looks bad.

I still haven't received anything. I thought all the decisions would be sent out together. I am having a hard time believing anything the admissions office says anymore. I wonder what is really going on.

Well guys, I wrote in my last post here that the situation looks bad. It's April 1st and I think it looks really bad. Has anyone heard yet? The admissions said during my interview that we would hear by the end of March. Then we got an email that said first week of April. I think we should receive our answers this Friday. Hey, can we name this day "Black Friday"? Let us all know if anyone has so info.

A friend of mine got his accept. on Wednesday last week. So if it helps they are still sending out some accepts. I wouldn't get too worried until after May 15th when people have to choose 1 school and decline all others. Then the lists will start moving again and hopefully you'll get in.

Good luck to everyone!

Tristan,

Your posts seem so fatalistic. I hope that is just your nerves and frustration coming through. I certainly have days where I don't see any possibility of acceptance and yet I have others where I think about the good things in my app. and think how could they not accept me. Either way you are correct in that our days are numbered.

They have consistently said first week of april so I have to believe that until I see evidence to the contrary. The problem is it has seemed like this week would never get here.

Lastly, the question really is 'because we haven't heard until the first week of april does that mean our chances of acceptance are less?' Another way to state this is 'have they accepted a full class prior to letters being sent the first week of april?'. I waiver on this daily depending on my mood like I stated earlier. Either way I hope the answer to both is no.

Conure and evreyone,

Sorry for the negativity. I guess today is one of those days when I can't see any possibility of getting in. It's not always like this. You're right there are those days when I feel it so close.

Anyway, our days are numbered.

I think we should receive our answers this Friday. Hey, can we name this day "Black Friday"?

Absolutely.

I am extremely pessimistic about my chances of getting in to the U. I haven't received anything by way of final decision from them yet, but, of course, I expect to this week.

I have one acceptance already (out of state, obviously), and, while I really like the thought of getting out of Utah, it sucks that I may be forced to by getting a rejection from the U.

I hate to feel so negatively and so down about the whole Utah situation. So I'm trying to think positively...and it's worked up until this week.

This week, I am dreading opening up my mailbox to see a tiny envelope from the University of Utah School of Medicine addressed to me.

::sigh::

Just for fun I checked my application status on their website and it said my filer can no longer be found!!!!! They must have sent out decisions. I also clicked on the incoming freshman status link and entered my info and it said that my file could not be found. You would think if I had been accepted it woul have said something. Those of you waiting to hear from Utah, do the same thing and let me know what it says for you. Thanks.😱 😱

I called the admissions office yesterday. They said that they have started mailing out final decisions and that they should have them all out by the end of the week.
Good luck everyone.

aquaboy,
I just check my status. No file on either one. Who knows what that means.

I think that they just cleared out their online files, since if you haven't interviewed yet, you're not getting one this year! Good luck everyone, it's already Tuesday!

I called them today and they told me that they mailed the decisions yesterday. The suspense is killing me.

Yeah--I also called the admissions office yesterday (tuesday) and they told me that all acceptance letters were mailed out on Monday. So, for those here in the Utah area, we should probably receive the big or small envelope today!

Has anyone gotten their mail today?

Everybody sounds so paranoid. My parents are paranoid. They have been asking me every day for the last two weeks if I got my letter from the U. It has been a long wait, though; I interviewed at the beginning of October. It was quite maddening for a while. Luckily, I have another acceptance that I think may be my first choice. I'll have to wait to hear from the U and then I am faced with the dreaded decision.

This rejection hurts. Everyone has been bugging me too - parents, grandparents, my doctor, even my landlord calls on a regular basis. I interviewed the first week in October and have been waiting 6 long months. Fortunately, I have been accepted at 3 other schools, am on the waitlist at 3 others and am still waiting to here back from 1. It still hurts though to get the shaft from your state school, especially when you are looking to save some money. Oh well. The admissions at the U sucks and I guess I just have to deal with that. I wish I would have had some better connections on the inside. Everyone I know that has gotten in did.

I got my mail today and lo and behold. . .nothing.

nw7,

Sorry about the rejection.

As for me, nothing, yet.

Sorry about the rejection nw7. I know how you fell, trust me.

Nothing for me in the mail today either.

Hi, i am new to this site. I am really sorry for those of you that did not get into the U, i have heard so many bad things about the U's admissions, how its so subjective. I will be applying this summer, have not taken the mcat's, plan to take in august. I talked to Dr. Judd she said that the eight categories that they look at are fine with my application(besides mcat, i have not taken them.)
I was hoping that you guys could help me out since you have and are going through the process. I have some questions and would greatly appreciate your advice.

1.) nw7, you said that you wished you had connections cause others who did got in. Could you please tell me about that and people that are good to get to know. (anyone else who can help with this, please help)

2.) What are some things you would suggest to do now to prepare for an interview, i plan on to work on an mph during this next year.

3.) Any advice would be helpful.

Thank you, good luck with the admission and with your careers as physicians.

I got my letter today and I was DENIED. I got in at the second ranked school in the country, I thought for sure I would get at least at wait-list from the U. Oh well, I guess it makes the dreaded decision a lot easier. Good luck to y'all.

Just wondering if anyone has heard anything from the U today? I haven't gotten my mail today. Anyone know if the acceptance letter comes in a big envelope while the rej letter comes in a small one--that true?

Hey guys,

I got my letter today....Rejected. Well, I guess that I'll have to go somewhere else. Good luck everyone.

For all of you who got rejected from Utah, at least be comforted in the knowledge that they fell from 38 to 43 in the USNews rankings.

Yep, got my rejection from them today also. Oh well, they went down in the rankings and I am going to a much better school so it makes my decision a lot easier. I just wanted to get accepted so I could flip them off and tell them where to pu their accpetance. Did anyone get an acceptance today or were they all rejections? They have the crappiest admissions process ever, making us wait 6 months for this little letter. I didn't want to go back to Utah anyway, you can only spend so much time there.🙄 🙄

I just got the mail today, too, and it was the small envelope--I got put on the waitlist. Yep, the school is making me wait another few months.

Does anyone know how the waitlist works at the U? They didn't give me a ranking in the letter, so I'm not sure what my chance really are.

Has anyone been accepted yet? If you have, how long did they give you to decide?

I'll agree with all of you, Utah really loves dragging this process out as long as they can.

Not to burst your bubble or anything but they don't have much waitlist movement. In fact last year no one got off of the waitlist because they overbooked the class and had to accept 104 instead of 102 students. So don't hold your breath but atleast you still have a chance so good luck.🙄

I'm sorry to hear about all of you who got rejections today. I still have not heard anything from them. I thought they send all the letters out together. Anyway, I havn't slept well for three nights thinking that the next day would be the day that I would find out. If I don't get a letter tomorrow I will probably snap!!! Has anyone heard of any acceptances going out? 😕

Denied. It is particularly disappointing to me because this is the second year I applied there. I fixed everything they told me to work on and was a strong applicant. Not to mention I had to get six NEW letters of recommendation and jump through countless more hoops. Their system is so arbitrary, I feel so bitter about my entire experience with them.

I join my fellow SDNers in the frustration of rejection, got my letter today too. Good Luck to all of you!

Hey guys,

I have yet to receive my notification. I'm in Boston so it takes a few days to get here.

Just curious, were you all instate applicants? I was born and raised in Utah but have been living elsewhere and hence was not able to apply as a Utah resident.

Thanks

I am an out-of-stater from oregon. Good Luck Conure, Hopefully it's good news.

This is not true. I was accepted last year and turned down the U (as did several friends of mine). I also know several who got accepted off the waitlist last year. I think the waitlist has been increasingly active over recent years due to various well-publicized problems at the U. That said, it is still a decent program and relatively difficult to get in off the waitlist.

Rejected.

Not even waitlisted.

It's a bit upsetting.

The Good News: I am definitely getting out of Utah! I've lived here for 10 years, and I'm ready for a change (Utah is weird but very pretty).

The Bad News: My parents, grandparents, extended family, and friends are taking it pretty hard. We all knew I probably wouldn't go to the U even if I did get in, but that rejection letter made it all a reality.

I think everyone I know is already planning road trips and Spring Breaks to come visit me. That's nice 🙂

Well, time to move on, right?
