To any one out of state with questions about housing:
The thing about Charleston is that the nice areas and not so nice areas are all close together. I suggest planning a little weekend to look for places near MUSC and to get familiarized with the area before you come to school. One of the best ways to find a place is to walk or ride around and look for "for rent" signs. Another extremely helpful site is Craigs list. You can visit the website before you come to set up some viewings. Just bring a buddy because any one can post on the site.
The Ashley Avenue 100 and 200s and Bee St are very close to school, filled with students and run in the 600-800 range.
Finally, MUSC has listings and I would definitely contact them for help.
Hope this helps. Good luck.
