Yah I think being bilingual helps, I know of someone who had poor stats and poor DAT scores (16) got into San Antonio in the class of 2007. He majored in Spanish and is of Caucasion decent. One thing that made him standout was that he did a lot of mission trips, part of religion had a lot to do with that aspect.
I think its a real shame that if you have the bilingual skills but the academic foundation is weak, that you have more preference over someone who is not bilingual but has a much stronger foundation in academics.
This is documented case of being bilingual that helps.
My only claim to fame in langauge, is that I know a little of the universal langauage. SIGN Language its the only language not spoken in the world that every country recognizes and understands. How bout them apples!

I speak English only and I had no trouble getting in to UTHSCSA. Look on the website, they have a formula that they use to determine acceptance. The TX schools are all about DAT GPA and interview, simple as that. I was not in a predental society, did no research and I still got first round acceptances to all three schools. This sounds like I'm being a bit of an ass, but I would only worry about GPA and DAT and if it's too late for that, focus on your upcoming interviews. They don't really care all that much about your extra cirriculars or what school you attended(I went two years to a Community college and 2 two to the University of Arkansas). So, to answer, being bilingual won't help you unless you're on the waitlist and it's down to you and bilingual person your stats are both tied.
SA has had a lot of their professors either retire or take jobs elsewhere, plus I don't want to use a laptop for study. Houston, I don't really want to live in that city, plus, I was turned off by the lovefest 8hr interview I had there. Finally, Baylor's facilities are by far the best. The simlabs blow the other two schools away.

Thats some great advice. To those Texas pre-dental students out there....I suggest you take it 😉 Calc hit the nail on the head.
By they way, how did your OBC go calc? It sure is HOT down here in SA isn't it!?

bpenly,
I processed my application on June 1st. I spent around 6 years working in various aspects of dentistry. Two years as an assistant, two years as an x-ray technician, and two years managing dental clinics. Not in the civilian sector, but in the military.

what date is your san antonio interview in august?
i just got invitation on 08/16. i'm very surprised b/c i'm still missing one LOR.
yeah, so maybe i'll see you there!
Hi Halitosis,
I'm a FL resident, born in TX though 😀 , but I applied to UT-SA (my cousin just graduated from there) and I was wondering when do non-residents hear back from TX schools? I took the DA once before , but I only sent it to Nova and Tufts last year, but I plan on taking them 8/16, should I call the school and fax it to them once I get the scores.

DDSSlave is right, you're going to need very strong ties(the state doesn't want to spend money on someone FL should be spending money on). OR you need a kick ass DAT in the realm of 22 or better and your grades need to be awesome as well. I'm surprised your cousin hasn't told you what an uphill climb it is for out of staters to come to TX schools. The problem is, no one believes me on this. I went to Univ of Arkansas for undergrad(I kept TX residency, however) my buddy (out of stater) with the same DAT (21) and better grades (I had a 3.7 he had a 3.8) applied to Baylor and I got in first round. He wasn't even waitlisted, just flat denied. Plus he had way more stuff on his CV. I don't want to make you feel bad, it's just that there are Ivy League schools with less stringent requirements than TX is for out of staters.
My interview is on 08/09.
The next batch of apps is being forwarded to schools by the end of this week (mine will be among them). 👍
People who've interviewed already, please don't forget to post interview feedback for us!!

The interview is nice because it isn't too long, but if you've interviewed at Houston(SUPER long interview)or UTSA(long, but you move around a lot) before it, it may seem a bit like Baylor is kicking you out. Well, good luck and have fun!

Howdy, hockeydentist.
Good thing will come for those who wait. Good luck to you.
I'm a texan. GPA: 3.8 and DAT:21/21/18 (AA/TS/PAT)
😀
bigpipin grades is what I'll call
I guess the schools are starting off interviewing the best and the brightest in texas and outlying states. I guess me and my bottom dwelling brethren won't get an interview untill later on in the process.

Has anyone recieved an invitation to interview at Houston? I recieved an invitation to Balyor for September 3rd. I can't help wondering if the envelopes were mis-placed for the other two schools. I know it's a bit early but, I can't help wondering when there are posted results from San Antonio. 😳

We can wait together...While everyone else gets interviews and acceptances.

BeachLuvr said:I recieved a Houston interview last week, thank God. Nothing from Baylor and zip from San Antonio. I guess they're all up and running now.
If you don't mind my asking, I am curious about the stats of people currently recieving interviews. They seem to be in the range of 1 to 2 sigma above the mean. However, my stats are 3.5 on an MS in chemistry, 3.4 on an MBA, DAT 21 reading, 20 org, 19 gen, 18 bio, 17 pat and 14 quant (I am really more proficient in math - I think I goofed and navigated out of the test early). I recieved an invitation to Baylor but not as yet to Houston or San Antonio.
Best of luck at Houston! 🙂
Anyone know the ratio of those accepted to those interviewed for Texas residents? I could not find the total number of appliants interviewed in a given year for any of the Texas schools.
It would be nice to know something about the chances of being accepted, once you successfully complete one or more interviews.

For the record, I've received this past week:
from TMDSAS: confirmation that I've been classified as a Texas resident and that my application has been sent to schools.
from Baylor: that they received my TMDSAS info, but that part of my application is still missing.

I just got off the phone with adm office people at UTH, they reviewed files on wed and thurs of last week. So if your stuff was sent to Uth some weeks before, you should have gotten reviewed by now.

Just got a letter from SA today that was dated 17 Sept 2004. I turned in my application on 24 May and DAT scores 24 August.
Thanks guys for all your responses!!!! I keep checking my mailbox.....and ......nothing........
I took the DAT early July. My stats are really not that bad (Science GPA : 3.5 and overall 3.7 and above 19 on all the sections of the DAT except PAT). I called the admission office a week ago. They told me that my application was under review. I am just hoping to hear from them by next week.
Good luck to all the applicants from Texas 🙂

I visited UT-Houston today. My application went under review yesterday and they need another day to review it. I asked when the earliest time is that I could hear for an interview and I was told it could be next week some time. So, my guess is that the next round of interviews will be going out soon. Good luck to all of you that are still waiting.
Baylor interview Sept 29.C U there!
this tmdsas app seems identical to the aadsas app? Can I copy and paste information over. Not trying to be lazy just efficient. What about the essay (the topics are almost identical) can it be copied? Do i have a shot at a Baylor with 20/20 3.3undergrad from UF in finance, and 3.75science from UWF?
