Hey SDNers,
I am in desperate need for some help/ advice/ input on my situation...

So, the past few months I've been really busy with school work, and I didn't really started studying until four weeks ago, and Bio, not really until this last week. I made notes on using the EK book, and from the practice test score of 7 in four weeks ago, now I have a 10 on the one I did today after this past week of doing that. If I had study more of Orgo, it may be a higher score too. And for PS, since I hadn't had the chance to get to it this week, it only raised from my 10 in the last two test, to an 11 today. Verbal, I had been getting 7-8, and I got a 9 today. I'm an ESL, but I think I will try harder to maybe there is a chance to pull it up to a 10 too this week.

In any case, I think I'm in serious lack of time, to get the amount of studying I need to get to my best performance. But since I'm also registered for the April test, should I still take it and risk a 29 (or maybe hopefully 31 or 32 if I study as hard again this week), or just take it in August?

Also, another problem is, if I take it next week and still do poorly, I will have sacrificed another week on catching up with my school work, which I have already postponed a lot of them this past two weeks... (yes, I think one more week away from schoolwork will be a big difference) Especially for that big paper that got an extension for, and also the lab reports that are due.. and final exams are coming up soon after..

So here's my options:
1. Take it next week.
Pros: earlier in the admissions process, at least have some score to submit it to AMCAS, and don't check the august date yet (I can do that right?), and also take it in august for a better score.
Cons: not best performance, especially if it turned out to be poorly (most worried on VR, cos if I study mad hard next week, I will be able to raise another point or 2 for each of PS and BS), and at the same time, sacrificed school work 🙁 (GPA!!..maybe not as much, but again, may not be the best, since I have less time for that paper, and still have to start preparing for finals right after next Saturday)

2. Take it in August
Pros: Better score, don't have to have a bad record, best performance (or the best I could do anyways)
Cons: Late in the process ( 😕 advice needed: how bad is it to be late? For those of you switching, what's your justification? 😕 )

I'd really appreciate any input!.. I hope to decide soon, so I can even have this weekend to catch up with school!.. :scared: Thanks in advice... 😳

I'm in the same boat....*sigh* I am torn. How are you scoring on your diagnostics? I'm continually geting 26-28 so it's really worrying me. And although I am seeing little increases in the sciences, I can't seem to improve the VR. Strangely, I seem to do better on the EK verbal exams which are traditionally harder, or from what I heard, than the actual AAMC exams which is really worrying me as well... At any rate, I'd just take it if you already invested that much time into studying.

1. Relax, you're gonna be OK, your score can go up with a little work
2. You don't have enough time now for the April test, take it August
3. Study your ass off this summer for the August test, that's another thread though
4. Take a year off, not only will your mcat be better, but during this year you can focus on improving your application (extra medical exposure, research, whatever), you will have much more time to prepare your application as well.

I have a friend who is in your shoes, but he is insisting on applying with an august mcat. I have a feeling that he's gonna be disappointed, but who knows?

I really wish I knew what to tell you guys.... I didn't feel confident enough to take the April, so I waited for the August.... But I hadn't studied at all for the April and took the Kaplan course over the summer, so I really was significantly better prepared in August.... If you really think that you can put enough time into studying over the summer to raise it a few points, it might be worth it to wait, but be realistic- If you're going to have to work or take classes over the summer, you may not have any more time than you did this time around but you'll still have the disadvantage of applying later. Either way, best of luck! :luck: :luck: :luck:

Yeah.. mine is around that range except that the one I took today I got a 30.. that is like I said, after a week of learning Bio (mostly new to me) that's why I'm again considering April, cos I thought if I review all the other stuff this next 6days.. I may be able to keep it at that score...
so you're gonna just take it too then?

If you think that your potential is 5+ pts better, then take it in Aug. Otherwise, good luck next week!

I switched (after lots of agonizing prayers). I will be pushed back to 2008, but I think 2 years after graduation will help my application. Although I can't get my $210 back, I'm at peace that I won't be taking the MCAT this 22nd. I am still 21, so I don't think applying later than I expected is too late.
