So, I received an interview invite from UCD this afternoon for sometime late March/early April. I'm totally happy about receiving the interview, but I'm not sure whether I should go.

On the one hand, I grew up in Sacramento. UC Davis is now in Sacramento. It would be nice to be back in my hometown for the next four years. And it's a UC school, which translates to a good education for little money.

On the other hand, I'm tired. I came back from my last interview mid-February believing it to be FINALLY DONE. Acceptance in hand, no more need to fill out application forms, or shine my shoes and put on a smile. Wouldn't it be better to give it up to someone who wants it more?

Comments, advice appreciated.

I feel you; I felt the same about Pennstate and I ended up cancelling it for the "altruistic" motivation of someone else is DIEING to go there and I wasn't. I say, if you know for a fact you would not choose it over a school you have already been accepted to, don't go. But hey, if there is a chance that you could go there go for it. Just remember all the kids that don't have acceptances and would love to have a chance.

hey astrithir....where does uc davis rank for you in comparison to emory and albany? i agree with OCPreMed...if you would chose emory or albany over uc davis, then keep your shiny shoes tucked away under the bed 😀 but if not, GOOOOO!!!! 👍

last night, i e-mailed letters of interest (pre-interview) to 10 schools. uc davis contacted me this morning with a thank you e-mail and a polite "please don't send anything else until requested by the admissions office"--at least it was in a "but we really like that you are still interested in our school" tone...so maybe it'll be a good thing in the end...HAHAHAHAHA i'm still laughing at their e-mail

i figure, at this point, as i wrap up my 3rd go at entering medical school (hopefully with a "successful" acceptance-in-hand by may this year), i have nothing to lose.....most of these schools have seen my name 2 times before this year... 🙄

i'm off to ohsu next week (uber excited)...then to vermont (rescheduled, also uber excited) and albany (if no acceptances) in april.

hey asthirir (sorry can't spell),

i interviewed at uc davis early in january and was pretty impressed with their new building in sacramento. i'm sure you've seen it since you live in sacramento. in any case, you'll acquire a very good education in sacramento. the medical school is right next to the hospitals, providing you ample opportunities for clinical experiences (walking distance, no less!). i actually really liked the sim lab which is conveniently located in the hospital. i, too, am quite tired and have cancelled all subsequent interviews (except ucsf). in the end, it might be worth the trip since you are an in-state resident. i ended up choosing ucsd over northwestern because of money. and who knows? what if you end up getting a full scholarship.

oh, man. i am definitely crossing my fingers for you. this will be your year, for sure. do you know how i know? because you met me, sassy doc, at dartmouth. okay, that doesn't tell much, but you're one of my favorite applicants i've met in this tedious journey thus far. anyway, I hope you'll hear from schools soon! take care! enjoy your trip to vermont and so many other places. 🙂

Thanks guys for the comments. Right now, without taking into account financial decisions, my desire for the schools that I've interviewed at are: Duke > Emory > UCSD > Vanderbilt > Hopkins > Albany. I would put UCD, based on initial impressions, somewhere between UCSD and Vandy.

But, if Emory doesn't give me financial aid, then I may have to rank it behind the UCs. Pretty much the only school that I would go to over the UCs, regardless of money, is Duke. Come on Duke! Give me some good news in the next week!

today i received a dartmouth waitlist letter. i was soooo hoping for my first acceptance...but i'm definitely excited about getting a waitlist and not a rejection. i'm working on my LOI tonight the letter says the earliest we can hear about waitlist movement is late may 😱

hey all (especially barcelona bound)

barcelona bound, I didn't get anything in the mail on friday, but i am very eager to check my mail on monday. was it another thin letter? why does dartmouth deceive us with premature disappointment? Anyway, i'm definitely hoping that you will get an acceptance at dartmouth. it's a bit cold, but fantastic education nonetheless.

i'm going for my ucsf interview later this week. i haven't heard for davis but from what i hear, they are really behind in the interviews. i know this because they deliberated waited until january to start having massive invites to applicants. i guess they really wanted to show off their new medical school building in sacramento.
