***The NEW Official Tufts University School of Dental Medicine 2013 Thread***

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thanks tinman ... KEEP IT CLEAN ... please

For all who deposited at Tufts, how long did it take your school to send out the Deans Disiplinary form to the email from Tufts stating it's complete? I gave the form to my school last wednesday and Tufts still didn't recieve it. I mailed out my other information and deposit last friday and was recieved yesterday, Tuesday. WTF, I have until the 17th. I repeatedly informed my school about how urgent it is, how long it take you folks?

my school says 3-5 days, and they took 5 days. It got to UCLA on a Monday and they sent it out on Friday. Good thing I gave them a next day envelope to ship it out in (was due Monday at Tufts).

Damn! I went to my school (in RI) and still haven't heard back, wow I'm real nervous now

If they got your deposit, I think they'll give you some leeway. Although my school's letter physically got to Tufts on Monday, it didn't actually get into the right hands until Tuesday, but they didn't seem to care that it was a day late. You have another week, so you should be fine.

I stood in the office of student affairs and had them put my completed form in a sealed envelope so that I could personally place it in the mail myself.

call jaclyn tomorrow and let her know about it

i have the same problem and mine is due on the 17th i doubt it will get there by then bc my school said 3-5 days but jaclyn knows and she said its fine and she will make a note of it in my file

they received my deposit today

I would call the school to make sure that they have the form shipped out asap.

when I was sending mine I was still worried it wouldnt get there by the deadline but she assured me that it was fine as long as it got there within a few days of the deadline. The deposit might be a different story

Alright sounds good, my deposit is already in their hands.

Shinbone- lol @ what you wrote on the facebook group wall, imagine if we got scammed on that

For all I care, they can dedicate those floors to a strip club or massage parlor, and I would still be content with my decision of going to Tufts.

now theres a thought ...

no one? check your AADSAS, c'mon!

Hey everyone!!! I'll be joining you all in the fall 🙂 soooo excited to meet you all!!!

does anyone know if Tufts has a computer requirement? I can't find any information on the website.

As in to own a computer in dental school? I don't think so. Plus there are laptops that can be checked out to students during the day. I think it would be a huge inconvenience though to not personally have your own.

You don't have to buy a computer through the school, you buy your own

there is a comp requirement at tufts...however its below anything that is on the market right now. even friends with old laptops get by. just be able to read PDFs, powerpoints, word docs, etc. and you will be fine. there is no group order through tufts either so you can go with mac or windows.

My laptop just died and I want to buy a mac to replace it, but I wasn't sure if Tufts required PC or not. You're saying either is ok though? Is there anything that the students have to use that wouldn't work on a mac? I didn't see any DVD curriculum or software packages mentioned, but I want to be sure before I fork over the money.

congrats and dont forget to join the facebook group

if you are looking to buy a brand new laptop, then anything will work. they do not require you to buy a PC. the D12 class did have 2 dental programs to load on our computers and there was a separate mac version. but a count was taken at the beginning of school to see how many PC and mac versions they had to order. i do not think they will continue this for your class because its very expensive and most of the people in our class agreed that although it was an awesome program, it was just too much info, too expensive, and we didn't have the time to run through all of its capabilities.

some of our professors teach off their mac's so you will def be fine if you decide to go that route.

Sweet. Thanks for your help! 🙂

Is the Library for Dental and Med students? The one that we were shown during the tour?

The med and dental students share the library. It would make sense that all the grad students use it, although I'm not sure about the other schools.

So, anyone have an answer for my labwork question? I could really use some input on that.

Is that Bill Nye the science guy in your avatar?

Anyway I would post this question in the actual Dental Subforum, rather than here, but I am sure someone can answer it.

Anyone deal with Gillian Anzivino through emailing/calling/at the interview? Quite possibly the sweetest lady ever. Really gives me a great impression on the school especially how fast she would reply to me and how nice she was in person. I think I am going to withdraw all scheduled interviews this week!

Honestly, to give a superficial answer, I would just say straight up go to Tufts based on the fact that I did not know that schools like Midwestern and Western existed when I was applying for dental school because they opened last year and this year, respectively (I used the 2006 dental school when applying for schools). There will also be patients who will care where you attended school so if that matters to you, you know where to go.

So they require us to own a laptop or to just own a computer? I have a G5 and I wasn't planning on buying a laptop this year.

The Library can be used by any Tufts student from any of the schools of Tufts. However, it is mostly used by the students of the Dental school, Sackler, and the Medical school. I used to check out some books for research when I was an undergrad at Tufts dental.

I also had friends in Med & dental school that used to come and study in Tisch Library on the undergrad campus. The Tufts student ID can be used at any facility of Tufts including all libraries and gyms. Many Tufts grad students use Cousens Gym at the undergrad campus.

^Thanks...

Anyone mention SDN to their interviewer? Mine just shook his head and went on a rant about it, lol it was hilarious. My interviewer was awesome, lasted only 15 minutes

SDN came up several times during my interviewing experiences. Most referred to it as a good reference for meeting classmates, finding roommates, housing, etc.

Still waiting to find out ... the word is now that I should know by March 1. Are you applying? Have you been awarded the scholarship?

I just found out last friday! I will be joining you all!

no, not yet. I have to do my physical on Thursday and probably have to wait around March, as well. I have gotten back to daily running because I heard one of the requirements during active service training is 2 miles in 16 minutes. I can hardly run a mile these days so I am trying to get into peak shape. lol

good luck with your physical ... i had to go back twice after my initial physical for consults. Wow im glad to hear that the requirement is 2 miles in 16 minutes ... for soccer we had to run 2 in under 12 minutes and that was never a problem. good luck with you training.

I plan on doing a 3 yr HPSP scholarship since the military will recommend I add an extra year for AEGD training. Otherwise, I'd be stuck doing amalgams/composites all day... and four years is plenty for me.

Anyone know when the entrance will be finished? I liked the old entrance!

70% of interviewees are accepted

60-70% accepted, over 100 deposits received and another 50ish acceptances went out last Friday.

When I was there Wednesday they still had 52 seats to fill to reach 175.

i was there tuesday, and heard from one of the faculty that the number of seats will likely be around 180-190 this year. eventually reaching around 210 once the expansion is finished

What happened to the 175?

WOW is this becoming the new NYU?

Are you just a number at Tufts, or is it as individualized as the presentation/interview?

well according to what i was told, yes that is the case. this wasnt info during the presentation. this was said in conversation with a faculty member. "i wont be surprised if this class has close to 190 students"... "and around 210 in a few years"
