I took the MCAT on the computer and I really liked it. You could work at your own pace so it went much quicker. I started at 8:30am and was done by 3!!

wow sounds neat
but i am a crazy goon
i feel comforted by #2 pencils
only issue is i think my sheet was a mess..how mess do they haveto be before they cant be scored 🙁???

how does VR work on there? i think i'm just used to underlining everything and just writing in the book...

you just have the passage and the questions on the same page. Can't really highlight...but it didn't really bother me.

Is it sorta like AAMC online tests?

i wouldnt mind ...
hey can u cross out def no choices
like to elimintate and does it sav ethem and then u can flip bk
whole system sounds cool...maybe if they make all mcats like that we can get auto scores atleast for ps/vr/bio and like WS in 2 weeks or whatever

Can you search for text? Like "Ctlr + F" on a web browswer? That would be cool 😀

Kaplan says that AAMC will move the real test to computer form by 2006. That sucks, I like my pencil and paper to underline/annotate. I'm sure everyone would do much better at the writing section...This seems like a way to make it easier on AAMC, but f*ck em, they aren't making the test any easier, then why should we?

omg for verbal that would save sooo much time
same wih bio passages
OMG IM JELALOUS IF YOU CAN DO THAT !!!!

Yeah I read the same thing about the MCAT being computerized on Kaplan when I was taking my survey. With that being said, I just hope I score well enough by 2005, haha. Taking the exam on the comp would seriously give me eye strain, & I would hate not being able to mark things as well...

Although, it would be pretty cool to be able to get your scores right away if it were possible. I could imagine the test going by faster if you don't hafta fill out all those forms at the beginning of each section too...

the biggest advantage that I found with taking the computer test was how quickly it went. I got to start a half hour ahead of time (830am) b/c you can work at your own pace and you don't have to wait for a bunch of booklets to be collected and you don't have to fill in an annoying scantron or be worried about mis-bubbling. I also only took 30 min. for lunch b/c I felt that was enough. I was thrilled to be done by 3.
Unfortunately, its not exactly like the online AAMC tests in that you cannot cross out answer choices or search for a word in the passage. You can mark questions you're unsure about or don't answer and then when you review the section you can look only at those questions if you wish.
Overall, I'd say it was a positive experience and i'd do it on the computer again.

This would be murder on VR. I "map out" the passage in my head on paper to quickly find stuff, but on the computer with scrolling, that sort of becomes irrelevent!

Question...so rather than a proctor timing you, is the timer actually on the computer then? B/c it seems like you were more free to do your own thing, like the shorter lunch break...

As much as I would not like to take the MCAT on the computer, it probably makes sense. I'm pretty sure that the boards are computerized, so at some point we are going to have to get used to taking standardized tests on the computer.

No, keep the exam paper and pencil...no computerized. This is exactly the kind of stuff the Terminator said would happen in the future :scared:

the computer MCAT is curved differently than the paper MCAT?

The curve will be awesome for the computer MCAT.....but I'd be too scared to do it that way. To think of the VR and WS section on the computer....a nightmare I tell you, I nightmare.

Wait a minute: you are not allowed to eliminate answer choices with a click? Did those of you who took the CBT find the scrolling to be deterimental to your score? Also, how many people took the CBT with you?

I believe that it is scaled the same way as the regular MCAT so that doesn't change.

The writing sample I found to be actually better than on paper and pencil because it was a lot easier for me to correct mistakes on the fly.

There were approximately 40 other people at my test center. We were split into two rooms. It got a little noisy when a bunch of people got to the writing sample, but they give you industrial ear covers if that bothers you too much.

There is a timer on the bottom of the screen that counts down how much time is remaining in the section. They also pop up a reminder box at 45 min left and 5 min left. If you finish a particular section early you can just leave and begin your break then.

It would have been nice to be able to highlight words in the passage like you can do on the AAMC practice exams...but I think that the plusses(Writing sample ease, ability to go at a much quicker pace and by done by 3pm) definitely outweighed the minuses.
🙂

For the WS, is it just like using MS word, or are there a bunch of special keystrokes for backspace, delete, etc. ?

A freind of mine wrote the GMAT, which is completely computerized, but you had to download the practice exams in order to practice the different keystrokes required to complete the WS.

Plus, if you type slower than everyone else...

That exam gives you your score as soon as you are done.
