It has an optional 'unique experience' essay, 3000 character limit. I think this qualifies. It would be absolutely FALSE to state that their secondary has NO essays, as some seem to believe. It's your list though, do with it what you please.

Why would anyone take into account secondaries in their decision as to whether to go to a school? Aren't there more important things to worry about?
Many candidates panic later in the cycle and want to add schools. In an effort to save time, they look for schools with quick secondaries, for the purposes of quick submission.
Then there are those that are just lazy. lol

hey so some saint actually put all the msar stuff into a excel spreadsheet so now you can quickly find out all the schools that screen pre-secondary for interviews.. like ucsf, unc, vandy, etc. unfortunately almost all these schools are state schools!! that kinda sucks.great thread, op
i think this should be stickied... maybe in the school-specific discussions subforum?
*if only there was thread like this for schools that screen before secondaries (i.e. if you get a secondary, you get an interview.. like at vandy 🙂)*

i'm just guessing, so according to #6 i don't want to add to the list, but doesn't boston have no essays?
Yeah, this is true - so I guess it could be added. But I just think very few people (especially SDNers) will submit the BU secondary leaving BOTH optional essays blank lol.

Can we keep this list going if there are more?
These are lists of schools that do have a secondary but don't require essays.
FYI both UMDNJ - NJMS and UMDNJ - RWJ (now Rutgers NJMS and Rutgers RWJ) have secondary essays. NJMS asks about personal characteristics, and also has an optional essay. RWJ has 6 mini-essays that are 750 characters each but some people find this more difficult than a normal essay.

I think optional essays are still counted, though that's irrelevant as the one you mentioned has a real one too. Thanks for the info...update the list?

Nice to have 1/3 of my schools with no secondary essays!
Just a thought, the University of Wisconsin optional essay isn't really all that optional. The wording is something like "a successful applicant is one who continuously voices what makes them special and why they will be an excellent applicant" (not the exact quote, but you get the idea). With wording like that, I feel like you're digging an early grave if you don't write something...

MCW has a lengthy secondary. Drexel has a 200 word +optional 200 word. This list is out of date like grandma's tetanus.
