Hello all, I am looking for some quick advice. I am wondering what the best thing to do in my situation is. It looks like I am going to get a C in College Algebra, while getting A's in my other three classes. Because it is recommended that I take Calc. I would you suggest that I retake Algebra to get a better grade, or simply move on and never let my self slip again. I am stressing about this, so I figured I would ask all of you who have already been through it. Thanks in advance for the advice!

move on, retaking algebra would be kind of wasting your time in school. if you actually struggled with it, get some outside help

Just be carfeful about moving on and not getting the comprhension behind it. Algebra is on the DAT, so moving ahead without getting the solid math foundation will make life a lot harder for you when you take the Quantative reasoning section. Calculus is great, but you're really not tested on Calculus in the DAT. If you trully just slacked off, then by all means charge ahead. But also be carefull as C's here and there can really hurt the GPA.

good luck

Yeah, I would say that you don't have to re-take the class, but you definately should get some help to make sure your algebra skills are up to par, because you need them for future chemistry classes, physics, and of course the DAT. 👍

hmm...I guess that I was under the impression that there is Calc on the DAT and that dental schools like to see it on your transcripts. Is this not 100% true? I guess a little more clarification would be good. Also, does anyone know if there is some type of resource that I can find for general questions regarding the DAT? I am a couple years away from it right now, but I feel that I must start preparing ASAP. I am looking for answers to questions like, is the DAT timed? If so, how much time for each section. Are calculators accepted or is it strictly pencil and paper. Nothing to "intense" at this moment, I just need to start preparing. Thanks for all your help!

No calculus on the DAT, though I had to take it for my major. I'm not sure how dental schools view calculus, but AADSAS does count it as part of your science GPA.

Yes, the DAT is timed and each section has a different time limit. Total the test is about 4 hours. It's all on computer and you are not allowed a calculator. Check the ADA site for more info, or browse the DAT discussion board.

Kaplan also has some example questions to expect:
