I would like to start this thread so all of us could share the info which will help us make better decision in choosing the "right school".
This is the information I gathered (thanks to our helpful ancestors  )about canadian universities.
One should know that in Quebec, an accreditation could be given by l'ordre des dentistes du quebec (kind of state board there) without attending an accademic program...for more info, please read the thread:

Good luck :luck: :luck: :luck:

thanks doc.

hi in canada i didnt get my gpa scoring done i got a call from manitoba wpg and no in canada there are about 65 70 seats among 6 dental schools and all schools take a practical exam the exams are not that hard in themselves and with guidance you can really prepare for them by practising at home almost everybody at the interview i went to had a home setup and had practised alot

So dont they see ur gpa for canada?

As for the prac, do the uni tell beforehand what prep they will ask us to do?
......and what r these prep..?

Hi Hanan
Could you or someone else elaborate on this ..
Which universities give more weightage to which factor out of....
gpa, Ee score, toefl or ielts score, experience, your biodata including extracurricular activities, clinical performance, interview and your residency in that state....??
Can somebody comment on that plss.??

inquest said:
helllooo
anybody thereee!!
Hi Inquest,
here is some info that you might find intesting
I can only comment on UManitoba....
here they are very picky on hand skills...
the 5 day interview process conist of 2 days of practice sessions ( during which time they will interview you for 30 min)
2 days of psycomotor skills ( crown preps and restorations on maniquins)
and half day of OSCE ( theory - consisting of slides, radiographs, cast and models - testing your theoritical knowledge)
It varies from year to year but in general the clinical portion accounts of 50% of your marks, OSCE accounts for 30% and interview accounts for the remaining 20%
Slection for the interview is based on various factors...
-ee scores
-past experiences ( eg they seem to give bonus points if you have experience as a dental assistant or hygeinst)
-ielts scores should be at least 7
-good references is always an asset
- in general the feel that they get from your resume

I hope this clears some of the doubts you have at least with Uof M
all the best for your application process
I know the road is hard but not impossible :) :) :)

Hi WcL

Thanks a lot for your reply...i see that u hav been giving some real good advice....so ur in Manitoba ....hows is the actual DDS?

Did u appear just for the Manitoba interview? And do you hav any idea about UBC..not many people talk much abt it...is it that they prefer BC residents?

Could you advise about EE preparation...which subjects to concentrate on more ..?How much time to give?any other tips...thanks.

All the best to you.
Thanks.

Hi wcl,
U had mentioned that the uni. values exp. as assistant or hygienist..but can we practice as a hygienist in Canada..i guess we need a licence for that!....?
Thanks.

Hii wcl
When considering recommendations...can these be from a canadian DDS..does that help?..besides of course the ones from your college dean or profs..?
sorry for so many ques. ..but u r sooo good at answering..no wonder u must hav been good at your interviews!! cos u r so clear with your answers.
Thanks Doc.

Hi inquest,
I have a pretty strong fealer that Uof M looks for experience in a candidate. what I mean is that they would prefer a candidate who knows his way around in a north american clinical setting. As the IDDP students will be directly integrated with the regular batch, it is helpful if one has north american experience. I met a few candidates who had experience as d hygenist or d assistant. so it is my general belif that this is one aspect that they are looking for.
regarding the ee prep solve past ee questions and dental decks. a score of 80 and above is the minimum that is needed.
recommendations could be from anyone... i had a recommendation from a physician... as long as you can back your self in the interview and not appear that you made up your resume you should be fine. Yes they do discuss your resume with you during the interview.
all the best... IF I COULD DO IT .... ANY ONE CAN

hi wcl are you in at u of manitoba if so which batch by the way youre right u of m does look for some sort of exp in their candidates either as assistants or receptionists or observers in the dental field i dont know how much weightage they give to candidates with exp out of north america i feel its a fair shot once you have an interview i think they give everybody the same opportunity based on their performance at the interview

Hii
Thanks for replying.
I do have some d assisting exp.and will add on to it..
Will a research assistant exp in dental related deptt be helpful??...so i may try for it..pls guide....
Presently my main aim is the perfect EE score.....will hav to crack it in 1 attempt..dont hav a choice..circumstances dont allow much flexibility to me...!..do hav much time till may...pls can u guide me more on that...
like u mentioned ..from where can i get the past EE papers...??
r there any tutoring centers for this type of exam...even in india...cos i can avail of indian facilities while i m here....??
how shud i go about my studies for the perfect score..??pls help!..it s the only thing on my mind ..in my life at present...
thanks a lottt..god bless u all....

[hi
i would like to add little bit more info to it:
dalhousie is 9 seats
western ontario.......15
and few more things ab clinical eaxm of toronto and halifax[dal]
for toronto, its pass or fail.they don'nt have any scale to grade u'r preps.but i wonder people still fail that exam.i guess they have some hidden criterias to pass`or fail a candidate in psychomotor skills.

about dal,u won't get an interview call with a low ee score.i know fewcandidates with 90 and above who came to dal for interview and did'nt get into and there are people with 84% or lower in dal this time bec is not only u'r high score that will get u into dal.its a combination of factors required to be there:

any academic achievments like some medals ,distinctions etc

u'r clinical skills bec after getting interview` call and thats the major factor for getting into the programme.u'll get to know ab what preps they 'll be asking in the exam along with u'r interview call.generally, its a class ii and agold crown on lower quadrants and the time u get for those preps is arround 1.5 hours.

there is an interview [just to determne u'r communication skills]and u have towrite a little essay on some genral topic eg marijuana

in case someone needs more info, u can pm me ab toronto manitoba and dal as these r the places i have been or u can serach for the thread ''canadian ee candidates must read this one.'' i tried to add fair amoun of info ab clinical prep in that thread.

and ab canadian released exams...i have few of those questions and exams and i can send it to u FOR FREE. send me u'r email id if u r intrested.

How to earn a heap of money …

Everyone like money, but not everyone know as them to earn quickly and the main thing almost without difficulties... Very interesting way is below described, to correct the financial position, not throwing(stopping) the basic work. And during too time, giving the new earnings, time is equal so much, how many you presume.
Has come across this clause(article) at one forum approximately 1 one year ago and has not dared to try. Now about it strongly I regret. In fact could and then …
In it(her) it was spoken, that it is possible to earn thousand dollars for couple of weeks at an investment only 6 $.
Further in it(her) spoke, that it is necessary to send on 1 $ on 6 Internet - purses herein provided. Then to strike the first purse off the list, thus, having displaced the list on one line upwards. The sixth remains free.
Where also it is necessary to enter number of the purse. And to leave the changed message as MINIMIND(MINIWIT) at 200 different forums.
The idea was simple and ingenious simultaneously! It is confident, that its(her) author already for a long time does not go for work, as we with you!!! It is a pity, the decision has come not at once! There were and at me doubts. Eventually, what was possible to lose except for these unfortunate 6 $?
And I was solved …
In 5 days of painful expectations, has not sustained and has glanced in the purse. There have appeared money!!! And it is equal so many that all initial expenses … I would be paid back was not simply pleasantly surprised!!! I was in a shock!!! To the first week has come ONLY 25 $. Thought, that on it all and will be terminated... Ага, as!!! By the end of the second week there was already 500 $. To the middle 3 has passed for 1000 $. At the end of a month I have counted about(near) 20000 $, and this sum continued to grow persistently, and is VERY MUCH - VERY MUCH FAST!!!
I did not trust, that it works, yet did not start to receive translations from all World!!! Before at all did not know, that there is such easy money! And appeared, THEY are!
I promise, that if you in accuracy will observe below listed instructions you will start to receive much more money, than you thought, not applying to this of special efforts!!!
Those 3 steps to your success:
1. If you do not have those 6 $ you need to be registered in system WebMoney Transfer which is on<http://www.webmoney.com/>. Closely(attentively) familiarize with the given system as she(it) works, choose optimum for itself a variant of updating of a purse from a page<http://www.webmoney.com/operations.shtm/>. Then bring 6 WMZ on yours WMZ in a purse (it(he) begins with letter Z).
2. Send on first number from below listed WMZ purses 1 $, to a field <NOTE> write: " Please, enter into me list WMZ of purses ". Everything, that you have made are have created a certain service and, the MOST IMPORTANT, it absolutely legally!!! You ask lawful service for which pay. Now send in 2,3,4,5,6 WMZ purses also on 1 $, but already to a field <NOTE> of anything to write it is not necessary!, at last, and the list of these purses:
1. Z301356740198 (here write the NOTE)
2. Z318271263983
3. Z175918182347
4. Z201239738447
5. Z255717702031
6. Z204827926963
ATTENTION!!!
It is necessary to delete the FIRST purse from this list, and to move 2-nd purse on a place 1-st, which you have erased, 3-rd on a place 2-nd, 4-th on a place 3-rd, 5-th on a place of 4-th and 6-th on a place of 5-th! And in sixth number which appeared empty, enter number of yours WMZ the PURSE!!!
3. THE MOST IMPORTANT!!!
To place this clause(article) the MINIMUM at 200 FORUMS and NEWS LINES (News Groups)!!! UNDERSTAND: The more you place, the YOUR income will be higher!!! And this income will DEPEND DIRECTLY ON YOU AND ONLY FROM YOU!!! Do(make) in my clause(article), any to you changes, only KEEP the MAIN IDEA! I ask you: READ IT ONCE AGAIN!!! Follow instructions, and money will start to act and on your purse!!!
Agree, there is nothing EASIER!!! And it is IMPORTANT, ALL LEGALLY!!! And your contribution makes only 6 $... And IT WORKS, AND ALREADY VERY MUCH FOR A LONG TIME!!! Engage in it NOW!!! TIME NOW are YOUR MONEY!!! It is not necessary to postpone that CAN already MAKE YOU RICH tomorrow.
And now, allow, I shall tell to YOU how it works also the most important WHY? We shall tell, from 200 accommodations YOU receive, for example, 5 answers (well very much - very much small and low figure)!!! Means, YOU receive +5 $, being on 6-th position in the list!!! Now these 5 people will make on 200 accommodations each MINIMUM with YOUR purse on 5-th position, and only 5 people answer those to first five is already +25 $!!!
Further 25 people do(make) these on 200 accommodations with your purse on 4-th line (because enter the) and only 5 answer - your income +125 $!!! Now these 125 people, having placed and having received only 5 answers, give you +625 $ the profit (And you already on 3 line)!!! It is even more further: 625 people do(make) these on the MINIMUM of 200 accommodations with you on 2-nd line and only 5 people answer are already +3125 $!!! Well and the most interesting is that these 3125 person do(make) on 200 accommodations everyone with you already on 1-st line and they are answered again only with 5 people, your income +15625 $!!!!!!
Impressive figure? If is not present, count up, that will turn out. In that case when will respond not 5, but 10 person!!! Now impresses? And all this for the initial ultralow contribution - in 6 $!!! Not bad, yes? When you in the list already are not present, you simply send again 6 $ in the same purses, as for the first time (for this purpose keep this clause(article) in the NOTEBOOK) and again, having moved numbers of purses, having removed the first, put number on 6-th position and again place!!!
Well, as? Whether you will spend only 6 $ to learn(find out), that it works!!! MOREOVER AS!!! Having made how I have described all above, you become very rich and will help to grow rich to many other people which at all do not know. I SWEAR to YOU!!! INDEED!!! YOUR LIFE CAN CHANGE!!! Any Pessimist will tell: And suddenly anybody will send nothing to me? Let to dispel your last doubts! In fact every day in the Internet appear from 20000 up to 50000 thousand new users!!!
You can present yourselves, that 1000 people from all world join the Internet and read these clauses(articles) every day!!! Precisely the same as also you now read this!
The MAIN THING REMEMBER: HONESTY AND ONLY HONESTY of PEOPLE allows to prosper to this business!!! I sincerely hope, that you such person. Before something to receive, it is necessary something to give in exchange!!! So this World is arranged!
And to receive it is even more, it is necessary to give even more!!! And how to distribute the information in forums?
1. We open any search system: rambler.ru, yandex.ru, google.ru, aport.ru
2. We write in a line of search a phrase: " a forum a flame " (without inverted commas)
3. The search system will find thousand pages, references on which at once result on page for filling a new theme of a forum, and also it is possible to bring this clause(article) as the citation in various forums.
4. Use the usual translator for translation of this text and place them at forums of other countries. Easily and simply!!! Be not frightened, if suddenly on that site where you have wanted to place the announcement, already is one or the several similar. It once again confirms that this business really works!
OPERATE! To you it will be returned a hundredfold. The success - depends only on you!

Hi,

I am a non-international graduate of western ontario... here is a link to their QP.
http://www.fmd.uwo.ca/dentistry/QualifyingProgram/QP/FeesDeadlines.html

important points:
$1450 fee for taking week-long practical exam, includes prepping manikin teeth for operative and crowns. Also recommend taking restorative review course at the school (~$1800 for 1 week) because it is taught by the same instructors who grade the practical exam. Note that 12 students were chosen out of 103. Doing well is not sufficient... you must do better than 90 other dentists.

tuition: Year I: $50,145.00; Year II: $34,645.00

reapplying: very difficult, many new applicants every year and you will be at bottom of their list.

Thanks for taking time n adding on....
Could you pls tell ..when is this practice session held..in which month? and in which month do they take the actual clinical test?
and what is the application deadline?..eg if we r giving EE in may when do we take the practice session?
seems pretty tough!!!

Restorative Dentistry Review May29-Jun4 2006 (sorry have to apply 2007!)
http://www.fmd.uwo.ca/dentistry/cde/Restorative_Dentistry_Review-updated.pdf

The clinical test has varying times, contact the QP program at UWO for details. Last year two sessions were held in August.
http://www.fmd.uwo.ca/dentistry/QualifyingProgram/QP/AdmissionProcedure.html

I was working in school when they had the clinical exam the last 2 years, approximately 25 people are chosen for an interview after the clinical exam. From that pool, half are selected for next year's class. I must recommend that you take the RDR prior to applying! The plastic tooth preps must be made exactly according to the specifications they describe. I think that in general, the interview is not as important as the clinical exam... as long as your conversational english is ok and you are a pleasant person.

Just want to add some thing that UWO number of seats are 12 instead of 15 . 15 is only for the present year as they had some international seats vacant which they filled up.

I thought that the grade for the eligibility exam was marked on a curve....but someone said that it is the exact percentage that you got on the exam...does anyone know how the exam is marked for certain?????

I am not even sure ACFD does know :) :) :)

ya pls cud anyone say as to how is EE marked..is it the exact percentage..?
cud it be percentile by any case???

I would definitely choose a Canadian school in a heart beat because it's in my home country and the tuition fee is less than that of an American school in general, for the same quality of dental education.

Thanks a lot for replying....i hope i get some more replies on that....!!!!
what else r the benefits in choosing a canadian dental school besides of course u can get a loan if u r a canadian and its cheaper here...?
and after getting DDS from canada...can we practice in US??
Thanks again...

You're welcome.
Yes, you can because all of the Canadian schools are accredited by the ADA. All you have to do is take the region exam of the state in which you want to practise. Everyone has to take this exam, including those graduating from the US dental schools.

Hie Gag ,
My e mail id is [email protected] UFT have a clinical exam ?? Pls guide me what to study for canadian exams.
Thx
Shriya

As far as I understand, only your highest score will be considered, and that score may not be your latest score. The E.E. is not like the American boards whereby only the latest scores will be considered.

It's really hard to tell whether you'll have a chance or not. This is because the applicant pool changes from year to year, especially this year, considering the E.E. was harder than last year's and therefore, the average has gone down quite a bit (by 10% compared to last May's E.E.). So the best bet is to just apply and see. I think your score is good enough to apply. I don't think being a Manitoba resident will give you any extra advantage over the other Canadian or permanent resident applicants, though. Good luck.

Ya Cheer_up is right..ur being a manitoba resident wont help with ur admission..as I got it confirmed thru a mail from them..a few days before..anyways best of luck..
can anyone say what exactly do they prefer in successful candidates...?

No problem docgurls :). As far as I know, it doesn't really matter how many times you've taken your exam as long as you have a competitive score. Very, very few people have to only take it once. The majority of people take it as least twice or more. But of course, it's always best if you only have to take it once and get a great score, because it will save you a lot a money spending on taking E.E. :D
