hey guys...UOP is my number one and i just wanted to get an idea of everyone that is going to UOP's DAT scores and GPAs. if you dont want to post them i understand...thanks a bunch 🙂

GPA as calculated by AADSAS with +/- : 4.12 total/4.09 sci
DAT: 23 AA 20 PAT

But I don't think you need to have as high of a GPA...

Overall: 3.9
Science: 3.6
DAT: 23 AA/21 PAT

Of course, if you have a 4.12gpa, then you can get the $45,000 dean's scholarship!

GPA: 3.7, SCI: 3.8
DAT: 20/22

per UOP's site:
Q: Are my Dental Admission Test (DAT) scores competitive?

A: Our incoming class averages are:

Academic average 21
Perceptual ability 19
Reading comprehension 21
Quantitative reasoning 19
Biology 20
General chemistry 21
Organic chemistry 22
Total science 21

Q: What level of performance is the Admissions Committee looking for in my academic history?

A: Many of our successful applicants completed three or more terms of full-time study within the last three years. Full-time study is defined as four or more courses per term. Three of their four courses were predental science courses approved for biology majors. They achieved a B or better in each course; no D, W, F or I grades.

Our incoming class Grade Point Average (GPA) averages are: overall GPA - 3.28 and science GPA - 3.23.

My advice: rock the DAT and add an H to the "broter of dentists!!" part of your signature.

Thanks Kelly, for confirming my post (on a different thread) regarding STATS - A's and B's only... 🙂

GPA: 3.60, Sci: 3.53

DAT: 21 AA 25 PAT

no problem, but what's weird about it is that it states "a B or better in each course; no D, W, F or I grades"--it mentions nothing about Cs. I didn't have any so I can't personally speak to this. Cs appear ambiguous and shady; it's probably just good policy to stay away from them.

Cum: 3.2
Sci: 3.0
DAT: 23/23/19

The rest of you have too high a GPA. I guess they let me in to help keep the average down.

Javidi, I thought for sure you would have gotten the scholarship too.

What are the cutoffs at Pacific for individual DAT sections? im wondering if it's worth it to apply with my 17 PAT. I definitely dont want to retake the DAT just to raise that score because i got at least a 20 on all other sections.

The score cutoff is 16, but the PAT is one of the most important sections for UOP. They're one of the few schools that puts heavy emphasis on it.

Dont know if you're still looking for responses, but here are my stats:
undergrad: UCBerkeley
Cum GPA: 3.6
Sci GPA: 3.5
DAT: 20/20/21

I don't see any "A's and B's only". Even though it says a B or better, it does not say no C's. That's where they confuse me. I was accepted and had a C!

that's encouraging news!

WOW - I'd LOVE to go to UOP

I heard they have a NICE gym - is that true?

I only used the Barron's book, the Kaplan Book, and the TopScore CD. I didn't really spend much time on it; I guess I was lucky that I didn't have much trouble. My biggest problem was just making mistakes when I knew better. So I mostly just practiced being careful... some of the details are really small and subtle and sometimes difficult to see on the computer screen (there have been a lot of complaints about the angle ranking on the screen). I know that's not much help; I'm sorry I don't have any magical secrets to offer.

The way I remember Kathy Candito explaining this to me (I was concerned with a few C grades before I applied...) was that the "B or better" referred to the predental science courses. I'm sure many students accepted at UOP, including myself, have at least one C in a non-science course, probably a few even have a D, F, or W.

actually, they don't have a gym, maybe you're confusing UOP with UCSF. During my interview I only saw the main dental building and the library, but I believe thats all they have.

DAT score: AA= 26

I'm someone who shows that if you do really well on the DAT, then grades don't really matter that much. That's what Kathy in the front office told me, so I studied really really hard and long for the DAT.

How much time did you spend on studying? You have awesome TS and AA scores! Do you have any tips. I'm giving myself a month and half to study for the DAT...is that enough?

You got accepted for the class of 2005? Laura Buell came to campus the other day and told us only ONE person with a 17 in a category got into UoP. That must have been you! Contragulations, if your stats are true! I soooo want to go to UoP also. Help me get in guys!

I had plenty of Cs. Let's see : Calc 1, Calc 2, Ochem 2, Biochem 2, Genetics. I think the only prereq I got an A in was physics 2, everything else was a B. Makes me think UOP could care less about GPA.

I studied for about 2 months full time with no school and no work. So I was studying all the time. I used the Topscore CD, I read the Kaplan review book through about 3 times and I reviewed my old textbooks from anatomy, biology, a little biochem, and some ochem and inorganic. I also got really lucky. My PAT score was so low because I really didn't care about that section and I pretty much thought that section was a load of bullcrap. But if you do study for it, you'll probably do better than I did.

Really?

So no one got into UOP without "W's", and "C's"? - Interesting.

By the way...

What are the chances of getting in, post-Dec 1st at UOP?

UOP usually starts interviewing sometime in October and they interview around 20 students each week. Since UOP offers admission to almost everyone they interview early and there are roughly 130 spots per year, getting an interview before Dec 1 is very important. UOP keeps interviewing all the way up until April, but I think for this recent cycle all the interviews from January on were for the waitlist.

So I guess the short answer is: not so good.

Hi Sherm, I was wondering if you could tell us your secrets on how to do well on the DAT. I would really appreciate it.

Thanks.

I talked to Dr. Craig Yarborough (dean of admissions at uop) about my Ws, Cs and 1 F and he told me as long as grade trend is good, then I shouldn't worry too much. 👍
