I was just wondering if anyone else got a "thank-you for interviewing" letter from NW. It did contain the statement that the selection committee was impressed with me, etc. I really want to go NW so I was wondering if everyone gets this letter after interviewing of if this is a good thing for me?

From previous posts, it seems like a lot of competitive applicants get letters from program directors who really seem to like them. I don't think that NW would lie to you, especially by mentioning that the selection committee was impressed. So, I think that you are in a good position there. Just remember that this is still no guarantee that you will match there. You should continue to rank as many programs at places where you will be happy. Congrats, and I hope you match at your number 1.

I also really liked the Northwestern program. I got the same letter from the program with the same line about being impressed with me. I can only imagine that the letter is a good thing though. It made me happy. Smile, someone liked you!

They sent me a letter that said "We are impressed with you, even more so than all of the people who we send a letter to saying that we are impressed with them when we really don't mean it." But I failed to get the letter saying "You are among the 31 most impressive applicants so you have been ranked to match." Without that letter, I do not get too excited.

Of course I am kidding, but I did get the generic "impressive candidate" form letter as well. I have a feeling that a lot of people get the same letter. My thoughts are that they send it to most interviewees, so it probably doesn't mean too much. It definately is not a bad thing to get it, but I wouldnt go ranking them as your only choice or cancelling interviews at any other programs you may be interested in.

They play games just as much as the applicants, and I think it is best to be humble and underconfident in this process rather than being naive.

Best of luck and I hope you guys get your first choice!
