IF i get in, i won't leave here...ever. usf had everything i wanted in med school - great weather - large city - emphasis on patient contact - dedication to service - and a trauma center. it was a spur of the moment thing. i can't wait to see how this goes down

Not to mention the Moffitt Cancer Center, if you are into oncology you are going in the right direction definitely!

Im out for now, good night 😴

I'm still trying to decide what schools to add to my list. So stressful.

I think you're being smarter about it than I was -- I didn't even think to check pre-clinical curriculum style (for me, organ-based > traditional > problem-based) just length and grading system.

Is Q going to Baylor, btw, or did she get $$$ from somebody else?

The MSAR gives pretty decent outlines of curriculum style. That's a good place to start. No, I don't think Q is going to Baylor but I dunno if that's money or not.

Hello friends from the MCAT forum! I see we ventured over here to the deep end!

Bueller? Bueller? ANYONE!
Who else doesn't want to spend ANOTHER MINUTE in the MCAT forum?!?
I know I don't. I am done with that S.O.B!!

I don't want to talk anymore about EK, Kaplan, AAMC or any of the rest of it. Done. Done. Done.

Now I am waiting for AMCAS to verify! Like the wind! If any of y'all get verified, make sure you post to MY thread your date/time of submission and date/time of verification.

👍

so to touch on the "fast food" part of this thread, what's everybody's favorite place to eat? I am finally growing out of my taco bell phase after about 6 years, we have all these fancy burrito places here in my college town but they certainly leave holes in your pockets...

I worked at In N Out Burger in college. As the speaker order taker (level 4 for you INO buffs out there). So I would say there is my favorite because I know it is clean. Too bad none in IL.

On a side note, my ipod just decided to pick 'I hope you dance' by Lee Ann Womack (yes I do shuffle) and I'm always like, "OH!"

I should come with a label: CAUTION. CONTENTS: ONE JACKIE, HIGHLY VOLATILE. NOW, WITH 15% MORE ANXIETY!

mmmm in N out... i lived in CA for a bit and was quite obsessed... it's probably better that there isn't one in VA... because good burgers + amcas waiting = not fitting into interview suite come september... 🙄

I loved that place when I stayed in Texas! Especially the breakfast burritos's! Too bad none in Michigan. Plenty of pasties here though. MMMMMmmmmmmmm....... meat and potatoes..... I don't know how I ended up here. I saw a lot of Whataburgers in Texas too... never tried it though.

I think Q us going to UM right? Correct me if I am wrong. I agree with you Pemberley...I think Organ based is the way to go. Students in that type of currciculum LOVE it, not to mention that they are rocking their boards 😛

Really? Where are good organ based schools?

NOT UTMB. UTMB is hardcore problem-based. Though, if I recall correctly, they have some of, if not the highest average board scores of TX schools. That is from [perhaps faulty] memory, though. That's why I REALLY want to get into Baylor, as well.

Oh yeah, about Taco Cabana: I'm a transplant to TX (although since I've lived here 10+ years, I think that qualifies me for TX citizenship.) Taco Cabana BLOWS AWAY some of the best Mexican food that I used to eat in the northeast, where I am originally from.

I owe many of the pounds that I am currently working to lose to Taco Cabana.

Yeah that's why I like UTMB so much, because it is PBL.

Taco C - oh how I love thee. Have you ever had El Patos? that's a S. TX thing.

Oooh. When I'm in TX (hubby's home state) I like to get SONIC! Taco Bueno is also good.

I also didn't realize that the DQ sign is the "Texas Stop Sign".

No, I can count the times I've been south of San Antonio on one hand, so I've never heard of El Patos.

You call Taco Bell and Taco Cabana good Mexican food?????!!!!!!! 😱 😱

Seriously, that is TEX-MEX FOOD, but definitely not Mexican food :meanie: !

Other than that clarifcation, yeah, I eat there too 😉 .

I believe Stanford just created an organ based curriculum, some other schools are Loyola, Albany I think...

A lot of the schools basically have some basic sciences the first year, than M2 years they go in blocks based on organ-sysyem. It seems like a really cool way of learning things.

Anastasis, check out this: http://services.aamc.org/currdir/about.cfm

You search every school and check out there curriulum/

Also from the AAMC:
Approximately 10 percent of the schools have organized their preclinical curriculum into organ system units. In this approach, the basic science disciplines are taught in the context of their relevance to each organ system.

BTW: I think Northwestern is another school.

No problem, I stand corrected, NU is actually PBL...I confuse the two sometimes 🙄

haha i would feel bad, hes on vaca and he said he'd email me comments

since its in your signature, what requirements are needed to work for TPR or Kaplan? a certain score on the mcat and sat?

Ok so I dont know you people from your previous MCAT threads cuz Im a reapp, HOWEVER, saying taco C or any of these others you have listed are good food and saying there are good mexican is a crime against all humanity. Growing up in west texas, with over 50% hispanic pop. thought sorta makes me biased I suppose.

When I lived in San Angelo, there was a little hole-in-the-wall mexican place that did the BEST hot tamales ever... my Dad's office has a guy in a truck who comes by and sells something really similar. My rule of thumb: never buy tamales from somebody who actually has a license to sell them.

90th percentile on a section and an audition. Thats pretty much it. 😀

That is just awesome  FYI, many businesses don't allow drive up trucks any more because of the increase in cocaine sales 😉

Or, just send Terry Tate, Office/MCAT/AMCAS Linebacker in there.

"I SAID turn over that PS, DAN! Pain Train's comin' baby, WOO WOO!"

taylormade44 said:
how much do they pay?

20/hr for teaching (starting) then 8/hr for prep---it might be slightly higher in your neck of the woods.

Hahaha, I had to give a bump for any post where the Office-Linebacker is mentioned. Classic.

Dude. I said it first. 😍

i realize that taco bell might not rank high on the list for true mexican connoiseurs, but it is my all time favorite restaurant. i could literally eat it every day, and for one solid week i did.

I'm working on the OSU secondary: define altruism. Hmm..

I'm trying not to eat fast food but the drive up window lures me in because I don't want to take my kids out of the car. I can't do Taco Bell anymore because my son can't eat dairy or beans because of his metabollic disorder(try taco bell food with no dairy and no beans and see how you like it...) Anywho, I tend to go with Wendy's. I'm a big spicy chicken fan. 👍

If all else fails, just quote wikipedia  The spicy chicken at Wendy's is a classic🙂

USF will be sending out emails on Tuesday or Wednesday regarding the Secondary Application. As well, you are heading in the right direction with curriculum discussion. While in Florida you can go to any of the established schools and get a super residency anywhere in the US the curriculum over the 4 years is vastly different. We have made several modifications in our curriculum to assist the way students learn that we are one of the 6 schools that the Carnegie Foundation is using as a model for med schools to strive to update their curriculum. Most med schools havent strayed too much from the Flexner report model of the 1930's. A key to the degree of success you will attain in med school is the curriculum which is not often examined by applicants. Med school is intense enough without having the curriculum beat you down too.

What type of curriculum is more conducive towards learning the material and being able to apply it?

OK, I am confused. I thought that schools did not get data from AMCAS antil around July 1. So how are people getting secondary applications already. Does AMCAS provide a list of where people have applied before then? I guess that would allow schools that don't screen for secondaries to send out emails, etc? If so, that means AMCAS must be providing names and contact info--but not the whole application?
