I went to undergrad at A&M and I loved it there. Anyone else going to Texas A&M?

So are you officially going to A&M or are you still up in the air?
 
I will be attending A&M COM for sure. It's nice to meet you guys. Haha, I also went to A&M for undergrad.

Definitely going to A&M! If I were up in the air, I'd probably shy away from class threads right now....don't wanna build any false loyalties, ya know?

A&M is one of my top choices. Luckily, I found out today that I'll have choices.

So what's on everyone's minds? Can you tell I can't sleep tonight 🙂

Just thinking about how lucky we are, how glad I am we didn't have to wait till February, and the incredible weekend of College Football we have coming up.

For those of you who specifically chose A&M over TCOM, can you elaborate as to why? (aside from location)

I think most would choose A&M over TCOM because of the MD degree over the DO degree
 
Congrats to all of us who got accepted! Will you guys choose the 2+2 (college station + temple) or 4 years in temple? I am trying to figure out which one fits me the best and would like to hear what you all think.

If you're married and your spouse plans to work or you're thinking of buying a house a longer term option such as the 4 year @ Temple may be better suited so you don't have to pack up.

Otherwise, you'll have a great time @ College Station. I was there for undergrad and it was a great place.
 
I've been interviewed everywhere in Texas except Baylor which I didn't apply to....I got an interview invite from A&M a few weeks ago to interview this coming Thursday (12-7-06)...I want to know from some of you who chose A&M for med school next year...what exactly made you decide to go there....I actually called and emailed the school this past Friday and decided to cancel my interview because I just don't see any appeal in the school....I know that may sound arrogant or what not...however, I want to hear from those of you who accepted pre-match offers from A&M about your reasons for choosing this school. I've already received pre-match offers so all in all it would be a waste of time for me to interview there...
 
I chose it because it is a good match for me. Ooooo where to begin............. I'm finishing up my Undergrad here at A&M, and my wife and I love College Station. Wonderful people, wonderful school, and all the comforts of suburbia in a big town (chain restaurants, a decent mall, cheap housing) without the traffic.

The small class size really appealed to me; I know I won't just be a random face in a crowd.

Sure there are schools in Texas with more research dollars, and better rankings, and blah blah blah, but numbers aren't everything. The values Filo and other members of the administration talk about with so much passion, are the same ones that drew me to medicine in the first place. Student involvement also seemed amazing. Despite being incredibly busy in medical school, students still find all sorts of ways to have a positive impact on the community; pretty neat.

Look forward to meeting some of you guys in the near future, JMP

I didn't. MD/DO, whatever, same job, as long as I'm a Doc. One thing in particular that pushed me towards A&M was that we got to get a feel for the clinical sites at the inerview day. I didn't get to see much of the clinical education at TCOM.
 
Anybody going on th 20th? Looks like a pretty neat program.

Since the acceptance letter, I so far have not received any additional info from A&M. Is it the same with everyone else?

I got a packet in the mail late last week about a "Round the wards" program Dec. 20th in Temple. We get breakfast, get to round three specialties of our choice with medical students, and then eat lunch and see a presentation. It looks cool, and it'd be a good way for the Mrs. to see Temple, but I'm not sure if I can go yet because of another family obligation that day.

this is a tough one for me. im' still trying to decide between the two. my gf only got into tcom right now and we watn to stay together..but not fi ti's a big sacrifice in level of education,school, or career opportunities later
 
I also got into A&M and was trying to decide whether I should even interview at UNT. I heard they have a physician assistant school also.

Ya, TCOM has a PA school. Not sure how that affects your decision.....
 
anyone know if they are sending out letters each week...or if there is a batch that comes out every few weeks. how many spots left?

Hey, I'm an undergrad at A&M now, and looks like I'll be here for two more years. This was definately my first choice for medical school, I don't know how many times I've heard from physicians about how well A&M students do in residency and after.

congrats again to everyone who got in. I also may be at A&M. I was also offered a place at SA, so was wondering if there are rankings between texas schools and A&M and SA specifically. I am originally from houston, and I loved the people and faculty at both. Also was wondering how USMLE scores compare? thanks all!

I don't think there's any published rankings that look at JUST Texas Medical Schools. I don't know about the USMLE comparisons, and I would recommend going to whichever school fits your personality more.

is 12/20 going to be the last Pre-match date for A&M? Does anyone know how many spots will be available for the match?
 
12/20 will be the last day of pre-match offers and this is from the A&M staff themselves.

I don't know how many they are handing out but my guess is very few b/c they didn't hand out many last Wed/Tue.

Match day will certainly be their biggest day of offers b/c many who have already been offered will rescind their offer and then on match day itself A&M students will already be forced to rank schools so the whole process of offering a student-then the student declining the offer-then the trasferring of that offer to another applicant, will be eliminated.

My guess is they will have sent out 100-120 offers (total during the pre-match) by tommorrow. I figure that b/c they have 100 slots and they may have received about 20 declines already, so my guess is that they don't want to over-offer during the pre-match period.

In years past they have offered 250 to fill 80 slots so they will probably offer 300 of the 800 they interview meaning another 180 offer will be in between match day and the day before classes start.

Hi guys!! I am doing my last year at UT Austin right now and will definitely be attending A&M College of Medicine this Fall. Has anyone received anything regarding scholarship money? I look forward to meeting everyone!! Hopefully they will be holding another 'Round the Wards' like event after the match, so we can meet more of our classmates!
 
Nobody went to the round the wards event? Just wondering what it's like...
 
I made it out to round the wards. I thought it was a good experience, I got to see what to expect in third and fourth year instead of sitting in a classroom hearing about what classes I'll be taking the first two years. Scott and White is an awesome hospital, especially the new one they are building that we get to do our clinicals in.

Cool. I remember them saying there was a new Emergency Room being built. I didn't realize there was a whole new hospital going up, pretty exciting. I was down at the Texas Medical Center this past week for an interview at UT-H. That place is amazing also, but after weighing the positives and negatives, I am still convinced staying with TAMU is best for me.
