Hiya,

I turned in my supplemental essays for MSUCHM today, after their interview invite. I was wondering--does anyone know:

1. Around about what dates they are currently scheduling interviews for? My February is getting pretty packed with family trips, exams, interviews etc and I wanted to try to space things out a little..

2. If that date is later than February, does that mean I'm basically interviewing for the waitlist and not a spot in the class?

3. How long does it typically take post supplemental submission for them to assign you a date? Their email said 5 business days, but I was wondering if it's quicker.

Thank you so much.

Weird, they emailed me on Jan 15 telling me my interview was on Jan 25th, then told me to look for an email with my supplemental. Are you in state too?

wow, when were you guys complete? and what are your stats if you dont mind me asking??

thanks

Hi Tinker Rebel-- Huh--that is weird! I was under the impression I had to finish my supplementals before they send me a date. From the email I got:

"The College of Human Medicine (CHM) at Michigan State University is
pleased to invite you to interview. Your interview date will be confirmed
by the CHM Office of Admissions once you complete and submit the
required Supplemental Essays......Upon receipt of your completed Supplemental Essays, you will receive an email message within five business days that will include your specific interview date and detailed information about Interview Day."

Did I misinterpret something? Does this mean I didn't actually get an interview invite? Oh goodness...

I'm out of state..let's just say from a ubercompetitve West Coast state.

Doctor_MD, my stats are horrible, but I did a lot of postgrad work to bring them up. I think if you search around you'll find my stats.

well, i found your stats, haha...but i wouldnt call them horrible. my gpa is high, but my mcat is lower than yours(also your ecs are pretty good)...im INstate however and have not heard anything from MSUCHM. i have been complete for 3 months now!! what should i expect.

DoctorMD.. oh gosh, in state--I really hope you make it in. I would totally try to estimate your chances, but I (like everyone else) have no idea what's going on in the admissions office. I wouldn't despair though.. I read on some older threads that their office is really slow. I turned in my fee in August, to answer your question. Hang in there! I'll keep rooting for you. Let me know how it goes.

Shpamme, I'm sure you have an interview, maybe they just do things differently for out of state vs. instate. My email said Your interview is scheduled Jan 25, please complete the secondary before that. Also, I had to confirm I could make it on the day they scheduled it. So I think you'll get an early Feb interview.

doctor_md, you still have a shot. I paid my fee in september, was complete oct (aug mcat) and just got my invite. My stats are: 30P, 3.99.

OP. I'm in-state and I got the same email you got on the 23 of December. I then turned in my essays on about Dec. 30 or so, and heard back last week that I'm interviewing on the 25th of Jan. The turn around war fairly quick, not counting the fact that I was complete in August and just now got an interview. BTW, 3.8, PS 9, VR 10, BS 9, P

DocOB,
congrats on your interview! we have similar stats, however, you were complete a few months before me. did you status page ever change?

Thank you doc_md. No it didn't change a bit from the time I was complete until I got the interview, and believe me I checked it every day. I got an email telling me about the interview so that's how I found out, but you then have to log on to your status page because a link to the supplementary essay gets put on there when you are chosen for interview. You also use that same CHM-AIS thing or whatever its called to submit the essays. I hope this helps and good luck to you on hearing from them.

Hey DocOB and Tinker Rebel.. Thanks for the replies. I'm confused though--TinkerRebel had only 10 days between submission (Jan 15) and interview date (Jan 25), while DocOb had close to a month (Dec 30 to Jan 25). Maybe that means the admissions office is catching up? Or there is some other logic governing things that I will never know.. =)

Hey wait!! You guys are interviewing on the same day!?!? Cool!! =) Best of luck to you both.

I'm just hoping they will still give me a competitive interview date even though I'm OOS. Of course I also understand people in Michigan should get first dibs, because you're in-state and it's a state school. But a girl can hope.. =)

docOB,
thanks for the heads up, and i check that status page everyday(multiple times a days) and no change. so i guess im just gonna give up on that and wait for an email.

but if you dont mind me asking, what were your ECs like...i am interested to know what type of students MSU is looking for. we have similar numbers so i think i have their numbers, but i am not sure my ecs are sufficient...thanks for any advice...u can pm if y ou want...

Primary care

god damned MSU... why don't you just look at numbers like everyone else ? 😉

hey now..(about the numbers..)

does anyone know if at this point it's interviewing for the waitlist? or still spots in the class?

thank you so much.

It's still for an actual spot. They say on the site somewhere about how they keep spots open for later applications. I don't think they interview for wait list.
As for me having 10 days between submission of my supplemental and interview day....I didn't even have that. I got my invite on 1/15 and they told me to do my supplemental before my interview on 1/25. I haven't even submitted it yet. What's more, I stopped checking my email constantly because it was driving me insane and luckily my boyfriend coerced me into checking my mail on 1/16 (I had just checked it on Monday morning and got my NYMC interview 6 days late). They only gave me until 1/18 to confirm I could make it or they were going to withdraw my app. I have until whenever before my interview to turn in the supplemental. This is so weird that they are doing it different for other people.
Anyway, good luck DocOB maybe I'll see you the 25th but not know it lol. Also good luck to shpamme and doctor_md.

Regarding UMP's comment, I think they did just look at my gpa....because honestly I thought my ec's are one of the weakest spots in my app. I don't have anything showing I want to serve the underserved (although I am interested in primary care). I volunteered at a children's hospital, was vp of a club, worked at a gym, worked at a doctor's office. That's what is on my AMCAS, which is all they have. Since then I have been volunteering at a food bank, shadowing doctors, and volunteering at a hospital that isn't pediatric. However, they have no way of knowing that...so I don't have a clue as to how the hell I got an interview there.

tinker_rebel, thanks for the info about the waitlist--that really puts my mind at ease. regarding numbers, the only way i could have gotten an interview if they looked at just numbers is if they have some complicated formula that combines MCAT and gpa for a final consideration.

who knows.. i've given up trying to figure out the logic in this process. i'm just grateful for whatever i got. good luck to you all--thank you so much for your help.

So did you interview or what? If so, when? 😀

I happen to know the answer to this question. I was schedualed for feb 15th, but couldn't make it so I asked for the next available date. I got a spot this thursday, but after that there wern't any opening till late march. Apparently the school shuts down over spring break.

Hope that helps! Anyone else headed to michigan this thursday? my MSAR shows they accept abou 60% of thoes they interview which seems promising to me!

i was invited early february for a mid march interview...id love to go there and hear its pretty close to chicago too =)

Im OOS 29R and 3.8 GPA for anyone that is wondering. I had a 6 on VR which hurt me alot.

I had alot of extracurriculars dealing with the underserved and also w/ teaching.

They told us at our interview that they really don't interview out-of-staters unless they're interested. They make a point NOT to have applicants waste their time and resources by flying to MI if they don't have a good chance.

Also, they're a "fit" school not a "numbers" school so they'll be looking at your entire application and who you are as a person...not staring at your 6. If you truly care about helping underserved populations and you're not a weirdo in person then you're in very good shape. Make sure to visit the SND interview feedback and look at the questions they've asked in the past. I did that and the questions they asked me (for the most part) were EXACTLY the same. Also, make sure to be ready for the "tell me about yourself" question. That one wasn't really listed but they asked me because my interviewer didn't show up and so the fill-in faculty didn't have ANYTHING on me. In other words, be prepared.

Most of all don't sweat it, they really want to make you feel at ease and get an idea of the real you, not the bumbling/nervous/interview you. Good luck!!! 😀 :luck:

Thanks!

I could not be happier. That "6" seriously hurt me in the application cycle though...it wasn't only the "6" but also applying late and getting verified in October.

Together, these two factors had only landed me numerous rejections and only 2 interview invites.

But I'm very lucky/fortunate I got an interview at Michigan State. Seems like a great place from all the people I've been talking to.

Yeah I'm pretty much in the same boat. Verified in mid-November. My MCAT was fine but my GPA is GRIM. As much as I don't want to go through this process again, I think applying early would increase my chances A LOT. Hopefully it won't come to that, for either of us. Good luck and let me know if (or when) you get in! 😀

So did you interview or what? If so, when? 😀

Hahah, I did, I did. I was relieved, it was actually an interview offer. =) But I haven't heard yet. Getting anxious, 2/28 is coming up rapidly. If you don't see me on the forums, you'll know the answer.. =( I really had a good time talking to my interviewers; they were such friendly people. It'd be great to end up there.

Disinence and Ihateverbal, Good luck!! You'll do just fine. Totally rooting for ya.. (And nomemory too if you already haven't been accepted.. =)

Does anybody know the status of CHM's admissions. I have an interview at Wayne March 15th, but still havne't heard anything from MSU. I am a MSU student with a 3.72 gpa and a 27 MCAT🙁. I'm just nervous and wondering if I'm running out of time.

if you guys haven't been to MSUCHM's campus yet, you'll love it.

it's so.. friendly!

ahh good luck, guys!

Nope, I'm waiting for 2/28/07 too. I'm gonna be pretty heartbroken if they don't call. 🙁 Of course, I've tried to prepare myself for if they DO call....just don't cuss, don't cuss! 😀

My interview is in mid march. How long do they take before they notify you?

I'm OOS and I have an interview with MSU but not with Wayne..I evne called Wayne to see if they would offer me an interview beacsue I was going to be in the area...and they forwarded my request to the Dean. "The Dean of Admissions has decided not to grant you an interview at this time."

Blah =/

hey ihateverbal, i'm sorry it didn't work out, but that was really smart to call wayne!! good luck on the interview! i think they meet the last tuesday of each month, so i'm guessing you'd hear later that week, or early april. i know if they don't reach a decision on you they can table you for later though.. only prolonged agony =(

oh gosh.. 2/28 is coming up. so nervous i can't even eat.. good luck you guys!! (disinence, nomemory, tinker_rebel, DocOB and everyone else waiting) i hope it all works out for everyone.

showtime44--i unfortunately don't know the status of their admissions.. if i get accepted i will try to ask and post here =)

take care!

I interviewed last week and they mentioned they meet the last tuesday of last week.

is that right?

Gosh I hope not. I was thinking it was the last Tuesday of the month (2/27). Someone? Anyone?!? 😱

Okay people,

I just spoke with the admissions office at CHM. They said the committee meets this coming Tuesday (2/27) in the evening and that *if* our file is reviewed at that time then we should be able to check our status online the following day (i.e., Wednesday) by about 1pm. Good luck everyone! 👍 :luck: 😀

Should I have heard by now if I was going to get an interview, or is it still to early to stress out to the MAX😎

Thanks for sharing nomemory!! It's really nice of you. Oh goodness...that's
TOMORROW!! holy moly.

Yeah, I remember the day before I interviewed I went to the campus for a test run. I think the adcomm had just met because a bunch of people, included people I later (at the interview) learned were admissions staff, were spilling out the doors. They meet LATE man.. like, I was there at 9 PM and they were just leaving. So let's hope they get through quite a few =)

Good luck all!

I just got an interview invite from MSUCHM today via email. Guess it is not too late...now if I could just get those secondaries finished, I would be all set.

Keep your head up...

Congrats Gipper!! Rock on =) They're not hard..just sit down with a cup of warm hot chocolate and pummel through em..you can do it =)

Congrats Gipper!!! I just called the admissions lady and she was soooo nice. She said my application was reviewed once already and will be reviewed again pretty soon. Hopefully I'll hear some good news soon......:luck:

I can't stand the wait!!!!!! Anyone else dying here? :scared:

(Everyone's all, "No." )

Does anyone know if you pay OOS tuition all four years or if you can claim residency after the first year? Also, if I was just notified that my application was put on "hold" for a second review, what kind of a chance do I have at receiving an interview invite and when would it be? Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
