Are there any places that offer good loan forgiveness or tuition reimbursement programs? The only one I've heard about is Walgreens and you have to sign onboard with them for the number of years you borrowed the loan. I'm not sure if I'll stay with Walgreens after I graduate. Any other places I should look into and get a job with?

I currently work for Kroger Pharmacy and will be attending pharm school this fall. I asked them this same question about helping to pay for school. One of the ladies told me that my last year of pharm school they will give me $3,000 per semester for 1 year committment. After that I was telling myself that I will not be taking them up on that and instead have a job seeker look into better opportunities.

If you're in the southeast, check out Fred's. They will pay between 30k-45k per year (depending on need) towards your tuition for an unlimited amount of years (until the loan is paid off of course) and for every year they do this, you owe them 2 years. So if it takes 5 years for them to pay off your loans, you are locked into working for them for 10 years. (So after your loans are paid off, you got 5 more years to go)

I looked into them last December after their rep contacted me at school. The only problem I have with them is that their salary is only $58/hour, although I guess by the time I get out it probably will be bumped up a little higher. They do have a decent sign on bonus if you don't take advantage of the loan forgiveness but it's based on location. For Jacksonville it was $35k but you had to sign a year contract with them.

Ok so they pay $58/hr + bonus, + 35K off loans. Is that right? If my math is right $58*40*52 = 120640 + 35K loan repayment + ? bonus+ benefits= $155,640++. I'd do that if it only cost me a year of my life.

Don't let the greed get to your reading comprehension....

So if you take the loan forgiveness from places like Walgreens and Fred's, you won't be offered a sign-on bonus?

Are there any places that would reimburse tuition without X yrs of commitment? What happens when you decide to work for someone else and break the contract?

you people are shameless...yeah as an employer, let me go ahead and pay for your tuition and don't you worry about working for me. You are free to go to my competitor down the street. Im just slap happy to help a student when I can! yeah, give me a break dude

What do you think will happen if you break a contract? You got to pay the money back! Duh!

LOL!!!That was great.... ;-)

I don't see this work-for-years-of-subsidy plan as a bad one, actually. It's all but guaranteed employment, and really, it's only for a couple years. If you're absolutely miserable with that company, move when your obligation is up.

Seriously- that's kind of like being in the military. Get the education/training, load up on experience, and if it suits you stay longer, otherwise when it's time to move on, do so. Pretty simple, really.

I guess what I mean is what are the penalties of breaking a contract aside from paying the money back? For me, I'm still debating between retail and hospital so what if I decided on hospital? Also, I heard that Walgreens can assign you to any store so what happens if you get assigned to Alaska or something when your spouse is still at where you came from? Things come up in life; so with a contract signed, it's hard to take a leave of absence or quit...

I heard with the military they pay for your full tuition...

You "heard?" Have you actually researched any of this to see if it's true, or are you content to make a life decision based on what you "heard?"

Don't worry about that...Walgreens doesn't have any stores in Alaska.

You heard wrong about everything. First, usually a contract with any company has a specific location where they they said you will work in. In addition, if you work in regions they have a shortage of, you get more money.

The military nowheres pay for your entire tuition. They pay for up to a certain amount, and lets you may be eligble for loan forgiveness on other loans that you recieved from federal aid.
