Two ridiculous stories from work-
Story 1: The assistant to the pharmacists' supervisor sent out a fax asking if the pharmacists, not including the techs or even interns, wanted to make reservations at a restaurant for Christmas or have a party at someone's house. If they ate at a restaurant, everyone would have to pay for their food. If the party was at someone's house, then people could bring food.
We work for a large corporation, shouldn't they be providing the food? I worked at Sonic(fast food) in high school and the Christmas party was paid for.

Story 2: My pharmacy is located in a shopping center. We don't have a sign out on the shopping center's board, so we sometimes ask the pharmacists' supervisor if we are going to get one. Every time the PS asks about the sign, the corporate people say that our store doesn't fill enough prescriptions to get a sign. Their solution: maybe we could make a sign to put out on the board.
If we don't have a sign, how can we get more customers to fill RXs? Is there a "how to make a sign" class in pharmacy school?

You may not even be an employee when X-mas rolls around...:meanie:

Good point. I'm going to be extra serious about an upcoming interview.

Sorry to laugh...but those are some funny stories.....hahaha...

I hope the best for you.

Welcome to corporate America. The last time I got a Christmas party as an employee, I was working for a small engineering firm. Small companies generally throw their employees parties (and, in my case, paid for business/recreation trips), but large corporations will nickel and dime their employees on everything. I think it has something to do with the fact that expenses are easier to control in small business, while more draconian and widespread measures are required for bigger operations - oh, and the fact that publically traded corperations answer to the stockholders and stock price is the overarching concern

I was gonna saw the same thing. As the company gets bigger you get less fun stuff it seams. I worked for 2 rather small local corporations (not in pharmacy). For Christmas, they would give catered lunches from rather fancy places and a cash gift as well. Now the pharmacy chain I work for gives me a 30% off coupon for stuff in their store 🙄 While I'm sure its more difficult, it wouldn't be hard to budget 500$/store for an holiday party. People seem to forgotten that happy employees work better.

Have one hell of a Christmas party and charge a cover to anyone that comes in. Since there's no sign in the shopping center people won't know if its a pharmacy or Club Rx

But seriously the Christmas party thing doesn't surprise me in the least *gasp* I can't believe a large corporation is even acknowledging a religious holiday. However, the lack of a sign is outrageous. You say there's not one on the shopping center sign...is there one above the storefront? Perhaps they figure people can see it driving by and don't need another one on the board by the road. Hehe they really trust you guys to make a sign, can you expense it? 😉

We do have a sign outside in front of the store, but there's a big parking lot between the store and the boulevard so people always get lost when they look for the store 🙁. Since I'm not from that area, I can't really give directions. I wish we had a sign on the board, oh well.......... maybe I'll make the sign from store-used supplies or maybe NOT.

Please don't say this is a CVS. We have a Christmas/Holiday Party every year. We used to go to a restaurant, but now we have it at the DM's house. Nicely catered. He has a cool game room and plenty of beer and wine. Nicely done.

we get a party twice a year, once for employee appreciation day, which is pretty cool they light up like 4 HUUUGE grills in the back and cook steaks and a ton of food and drinks all day in the back...

...the other is for Inventory, I guess they figure if they're gonna make us count $300,000 in pills all night they might as well buy us Popeyes

They weren't kidding!

We didn't have air conditioning all day. The temperature outside was around 93 degrees at midday, so it was ridiculously hot inside the store too. We don't have any windows near the pharmacy which means that we couldn't even catch a breeze!
The a/c unit is one-fifth the size of the other stores. The leasing company won't upgrade the cooling system, so the a/c breaks every 3 weeks. So far, I've worked five shifts without a/c.
The district's pharmacy supervisor let us have water and ice at no cost, but it wasn't enough!

I just worked the worst 10 hour shift of my life!

You must have a fabulous DM - hang on to them. I've never heard of anything remotely like that being done in my CVS district.

The hospital I am currently doing my rotation at, I overheard the pharmacy director mention to the technicians that he is getting budgeted $40 per pharmacy staff person for a Christmas party. Not bad at all. Of course I am a resident so I have no clue how I fit into that picture. I am not even part of the pharmacists guild. I am actually classified as management since I am on salary. That way they can get away with making me work whatever crazy hours that residents do.

It's interesting that in retail they pay their pharmacists top dollar but pretty much dump on their techs as far as salary. Yet, some of these techs have been there for like 10 years. Very much underappreciated. Even as an intern I would stop by McDonalds and pick up 4 or 5 McFlurrys just to show my appreciation. $10 to $12 can go a long way to cementing a good rapport.
