I m a sophmore in college and was just wondering that since all of my basic biology has been credited due to my AP test scores in high school, do I need to take the basic bios classes again? or can I just take couple more upper level bios cause i am a Micro major anyway?

O all of my math has been earned through AP credits as well but I do not wish to take anymore math, would I have to take more or are AP credits enough?

I know the U of MN does not accept any AP credit or credit earned online.

I can't speak for Science but for Math, there are some schools that will accept it and some that won't. You have to check the websites or email the schools. I took Calc at a Community College (even though I had the AP test credits for it) just to make sure I had the class (I tested out of math in college so I never had to take it so I just wanted to make sure I had that college math grade) So far this has worked for all the schools I applied too.

For the bio, some of the schools will want you to take advanced bio to make up for it, being a bio major though you should be fine. I haven't taken any math in college other than statistics(required for my school's bio major) cause I had ap calculus and I've been fine so far, there's a school here or there that may not allow it though. It's very few though and you could always squeeze in a math class or two senior year if you find yourself really liking a particular one that has the requirement.

....and for SOME schools, it all depends on how it appears on your transcript.

Notice the running theme thoughout these replies, the repetitive "some schools". This really is something that you have to check on a school by school basis because of the various ways they consider AP credits. Cali schools don't accept it.

I have very important info here: My school accepted my AP calc 5 score to waive the school's math requirement. BUT they do not give credits for AP courses, so it never appeared on my transcript!!!!!!!!!!

and after you graduate, they won't make ANY changes to your transcript. BIG pickle for me.

Dartmouth called me when i applied and complained about that. no other school did. they said if i got in i would have to take calc over the summer!!

i got rejected.

no other school called. but who knows, maybe they will just reject me. i do have 8 interviews and 2 acceptances from schools that never mentioned it.

BUT, beware. get it on your transcript!!!

I agree with the poster(s) who recommended making sure that the AP credit appears on your transcript. It makes life easier. None of my APs were on my transcript, and I was going to use AP Calc to fulfill the math requirement for one school. Because the credit did not appear on my transcript and I'm out of school already, I had to pay $25 for Collegeboard to dig my AP score out of their archives so that I could send a copy to the school.

I got 5 on BC calc in high school and never took a math class again and I haven't had any problems with any of the schools that I've applied to. A couple of my friends have used their AP bio and chem credits to pass out of intro classes since they tend to be terrible unfair weed out classes at my school...however, they've taken upper level bio and chem...most schools just want you to show that you can do sciences well in a college setting.

I hope the fact that I am a Gator fan doesn't bother you too much...

I took nearly all of my prereqs in highschool. Calc BC, physics, english comp, english lit, microecon...everything. I applied to 10 schools and it hasn't been a problem at all. On your AMCAS application you can select the course as AP. In my interviews, it has been a positive topic. I think this was mentioned already...as long as your transcripts show you have credit you are fine. The only class that UF (for undergrad) did not accept was AP Statistics...even though I got a 5. I didn't notice it until I was ordering transcripts for med schools. Maybe it was because I already had plenty of math credit...I don't know. Anyway, hope that helps.

BEWARE of skipping basic bio classes and taking upper division instead! thats exactly what i did, and i emailed all the schools i planned on applying to, and they all said upper division was ok. BUT then i got into my first choice school, and it turns out that they dont take all upper division classes, and its not stated on their website. so now im accepted (which is awesome, and im totally excited) but im stuck taking bio I, after ive taken micro, a&p, and biochem. so its a complete waste of my time. if i were you, knowing what i know now, i would email each school individually, and give them a detailed description of your situation, with class names and whether or not it they have labs.

it is OK for SOME schools. not all. you will be at a disadvantage to take ANY AP credit in math, english, chem, physics, or bio. I regret not purposely failing my calc BC test because now i have to take multivar
