how far away from campus u living.......is it a studio?

As for now i am planning on joining the class of 2011 here! However, I am still waiting to hear from another school that i am considering. anyways i was planning on living off campus in westborough, is that practical for those familar with the area?

for those that want to live off-campus, why? Is it because its cheaper or you just want to live by yourself and not in a "dorm-like" environment?

Thats actually a really good point, I didnt even think of it that way. I think the dorms end up being somewhere around $1000 a month, and you share bathrooms and kitchens. Isnt it possible to find like a nice one bedroom for around the same price in the nearby area? The only thing is traveling...

Hey Guys =) I want to ask how yall decided MCPHS-worcester is your ultimate choice?

Is it prestigious school in Massachusetts?

Thanks :)

hey all,
add me to the list of MCPHS-Worcester c/o 2011. Just got that blue folder in my mailbox!
I'll probably be living off-campus, although I'm not completely sure yet.

Anyone know why it asks you for the name of your local newspaper on the deposit form?

Hey Guys,

I am sorry to ask you again. I am from out of state and got accepted.
Can you guys tell me more about where MCPHS-worcester ranks relative to the other new-england Pharmacy schools?

I don't know much about east schools.

Thank You

Interesting that you have your current location as Buffalo, intending to go to MCP-Worcester. I, on the other hand moved from Worcester to go to Buffalo for pharmacy school!

Westborough will be quite a drive, probably 30min. There is plenty of places to rent for off campus housing, with the general rule of thumb: the further you move away from downtown, the cheaper it gets. Good luck!

I sent my deposit in October and still haven't received anything for housing...I think I'd want to live on campus because Worcester does not have good winters, plus my commute from home would be 1.5 hours. The singles looked good too when I saw them at the interview...I have a feeling I'll need a lot of space/quiet for 3 years of stress!

yea.. u guys will get the housing info after current students choose their housings.. sorry :p

for me last year, there were no singles left, all we could choose from was a couple doubles and triplets, then everything else was 6-person

What is a 6-person? I forgot when I was there. I've been living in my own room for 3 years now so now my ears are perked, haha.

there's 2 different styles of 6 person, but you share the house with 5 other people with 2 bathrooms and a kitchen :p

Does everyone still get their own room though? I don't mind much the sharing of bathrooms and kitchen part, but as long as I have my own space when studying, sleeping, and etc. then I am fine :p

Yep, everyone gets their own room.

Got my blue folder today :D

Anyone coming from Texas?

Hey everyone!

I just wanted to start the official class thread, it is a good way to get to know each other before the upcoming year. Hope to hear from all of you :)

Hi there!

Thanks for the new thread! My name is Frank and I look forward to meeting all of you in the months to come :D.

As for myself, I am from California and am getting my B.S. in Neuroscience this Spring. I am 21 and Asian (Chinese), and I should probably get back to studying now :( lol!

Edit: The two official MCPHS-Worcester Class of 2011 threads have been merged :)

By the way I noticed that there are two official Class of 2011 threads and that this was actually the second one (I posted on the first one too but I had totally forgotten about it!). I will let one of the mods know about this.

Hi ya'll!!!!
I am Diane. I just got my blue folder today!!! Better late than never. I applied in October, but they put me on hold for Fall grades. I don't have my BS, and I still have to finish Organic II, Sociology, SS Elective, and Eng II this semester. I will be commuting from CT, at least for the first year... we'll see how it goes. I'm 28 by the way.. Can't wait to meet everyone! Congrats to everyone who's been excepted so far!:D:D

Hey Diane!! Congrats and welcome to the school!!! I'm a current P1, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask, i'm sure there are other P1s as well as P2s browsing the site..

Thank you, do you know when classes actually start in the fall?

Thank you, do you know when classes actually start in the fall?

Usually they start the day after Labor Day, if you go to the school website, u might find the current academic calendar that might state that. Go check it out! :)

hi there,

i recently got accepted to MCPHS-Worcester, and was wondering if you could give me some feedback about the pharmacy school. How do you like the 3 year program? Do you live in the dorms or off campus? If off campus, where do you recommend?

I've been researching Bancroft Commons Apts, and I see a lot of bad reviews.

thanks for your time!

Hey!! First off, congrats for your acceptance.

feedback about the school... well, like any other school, we have some bad professors and some you just want to hug them. You have to keep in mind that it is a non-traditional program, it's 3 years accelerated, therefore, there is a lot of pressure and stress from having a heavier class-load than a regular 4-year school... since this school is for transfer students only, they expect us to be mature students, and some professors don't believe in spoonfeeding you, meaning they are not going to tell you "you have to know this, know that, this is a, this is b", they will teach you the information, but you will have to sort what is important that you need to know, but we also have some professors that will teach just like in undergraduate school.

I live in the dorms, which I find very convenient. I know a lot of people who live on 600 Main street, I don't know if that's bancrofts commons though, but 600 Main Street is the address. We have some others who live in the next town over, for cheaper living.

Good luck!

thanks for the quick reply greatdeals225.

So what year are you in pharmacy?

since you live in dorms, do they make students leave during holidays? Where is the laundry facility for students?

What is the typical time schedule for pharm students? like is there a usual time when classes are over?

are you involved with any school activities at MCPHS-W?

I'm a current P1

For worcester, they do not make students leave for the holidays, the dorms are open all year-round, which is good. The only time they make you free-up your room for the holidays is if you plan to change room or move off-campus the following semester.

The laundry facility is in the basement, they have a few washing machines and a few dryers, they are quarters operated but you can also buy a card and load money in it if you want to.

For schedules, it all depends, last semester, my latest class was until 3pm, and fridays we were over at 12:30, this semester, my latest class is until 4:20, but no classes on tuesdays except if you happened to be scheduled for a tuesday lab... it all depend on the semesters.

activities: i'm a member of APha as well as the CSA (Christian students association), i am not an officer, but I do attend meetings and other activities.. was that your question? Being an officer and being involved in activities is definitely doable if you know how to juggle your time and be organized. I know a few students who are officers in more than 1 club/association and I'm sure other SDN-ers from MCP-W will tell you the same

have you had any problems at the dorms? or even downtown Worcester? How would you rate the safety?

are there any close ATMs/banks near the pharmacy school?

how about grocery stores?

Problems at the dorms: do you mean noise-level? usually not really, if it bothers you and it's after quiet-hours, you can always call the security guard.

Since we are next to the DCU-center which hosts various events such as local sports games, conventions, concerts, you might be able to hear some noise depending on where your room looks out of, but it's only once a week, if that, and it's not that audible you can make out what's going on in there. Since we are next to a hospital, you will always hear siren sounds but i think we all learnt to tune that out after a few days or so....

Safety-wise, we have an escort to and from the garage to the school if you choose to use it, I wouldn't recommend going out by yourself at night, we have plenty of people going out in groups and walking to the nearby bars with no problem. Downtown is downtown.

There's a bank of american with ATm right across from the school, so you don't have to worry about that. There are also other banks nearby.

Grocery-store wise, we have honey-farms convenient store (similar to 7/11) right downstairs for quick solutions, if not, most grocery stores are within 2-4 miles from the school depending on which one you want to go to, we have local supermarkets as well as chains.

greatdeals225, you are such a BIG HELP with all my questions!!!!!!!!!

how does the visitor system work for the dorms? are there certain hours that we can have visitors come by and a certain time that they have to leave?

is there always a security guard around? I would feel more comfortable...safety first

I'm glad I can help.

For the visitor system, i think it's a max of 2 visitors for 2 nights every 10 days, basically, you should be fine. I don't think there are certain hours for visitors, there's a security guard 24 hours / 7 days so you can sign them in anytime and sign out anytime. There isn't a security guard at 19 Foster all the time (after the library closes for the night), but when they leave, the building is closed and no one has access to it.... so i would say, it's pretty secure inside the building. Commuters cannot access the resident floors, not even from the stairs, and commuters ID cannot open the doors to the buildings on weekends and nights, so the security guard has to let them in, making it even one step more secure for residents.... name tag and lanyard always has to be worn everywhere in the 2 buildings, and your lab coat has to be worn at the academic building (19 foster) during business hours...so you can easily spot out intruders :p

so how did you decide to choose MCPHS-W as your choice?

I haven't made a decision yet....but I'm like 75% that I will attend for now

well, everyone's reasons are different, but I came here because it is an accelerated program coming from a quite famous school and it is quite close to my house as I come from Boston. I do like a school that is mainly focused on healthcare and this school fits my criteria.

i saw the schedule for the fall 2008-2009, is it possible to move in the dorms before the move in day?

is there a fee to print at the pharm school?

i know at one pharm school, PDAs are being give to P1 students, does MCPHS-W do the same? Are they provided? or do you have to get one yourself?

i am just full of questions.....

I was searching on the internet for some asian grocery stores, and saw one called Ha-Tien Market. Since I am out of state, is that store still there?

I gotta have my rice :)

Hey babygirl, dang I thought I had a lot of questions! I would try to answer all of them but I am in your shoes right now too. I think I can answer this one though:

i know at one pharm school, PDAs are being give to P1 students, does MCPHS-W do the same? Are they provided? or do you have to get one yourself?

Based on all the MCPHS threads I've read (and that is like ALL of them on SDN including the ones from years ago), I don't think students are given a PDA in their first year. It would probably help if you decide to work during your first year though. Of course greatdeals225 or someone else could verify this for you.

I would also like to know the answers to your other questions as well! I NEED rice. In fact I just ate four bowls of fried rice an hour ago...:p!

I am Asian and from out-of-state too! Where are you from?

o wow.... so many questions...

to confirm, PDAs are not given to us, you have to buy your own, but I wouldn't recommend buying one until at least your 2nd year, coz you really don't need one first year.

Rice, are you planning to drive or walk? i think i know 3 vietnamese stores total that are not far from here, but I wouldn't walk, there would be like at least 20 mns walking distance... i guess you can walk if you have to.

I don't know if they allow you to move in before move-in day, you will have to call registrar and check on that, they might charge you a bit extra to do that...

i think i answered all of them, if not, ask me again :p

I forgot this one, no there is not. They say that it's 1000 page limit, but it's more than you need.

hi greatdeals, i just got accepted and im heading up there soon. i see that you are in csa. my sis in law is the president i believe (e. lee). anyhow, im excited and i know that this program is very very very hard. im living off campus (shrewsberry sp?). i know i should live in a dorm but they won't let my wife and kid live there. so, i kind of have no choice.

im from houston, tx if anyone is curious.
