Ok guys Im scared to death right so this is a serious question. so currently I have a 3.6 GPA, I am a sophmore at UIC and because of my stupidness I just realized that I have an exam tommorow for Homeostasis which I did not begin studying for, I had mistaken and thought it was next week. So my school allows us to manually drop a course within the first 2 weeks without penalty but between weeks 3-6 we are allowed to drop a course with a W on our transcript.

My question is do medical schools accept people with a w on their course?

Relax. I had 2, got accepted, currently in 3rd year at a good allo school.

Try not to get 'scared to death' over something like that, or you will get emotionally ripped apart once in med school. Concerned, rightly so....scared to death, nah.

Calm down. Start studying for the test now. You'll be fine.

Agreed, one of three things will probably happen.

You cram and do awesome

You do poorly but study harder in the future and end the course with a good grade

You decide you aren't doing well enough and take the W, which still isn't a big deal

Don't stress so much!

Umm, here's an idea... stop wasting your time worrying about this and go freakin study all night!

Yes, worrying about this will really help your situation.

Not. Go pull an all-nighter.

Medical schools make exceptions when there are good explanations. If you fly on the MCAT and do really well on all your other courses, then you may have a solid chance. Cast a wide net and apply to a broad range of schools.

Are you serious?

Agreed. Your dreams will not be ruined because of one W, anyway. What you need to do is go get yourself some coffee & healthy foods full of energy and study all night. Don't go to sleep, your exam is more important. Might as well get used to doing it anyway for med school/residency. Get studying and maybe you can pull a C!

yea id study and take the test.. if you do miserably you could just drop for the W.
or maybe you can still get an A if this test isn't worth too much in the long run.

no one will care if you get a W btw.

and there's always the possibility the curve or w/e will save your butt.

gl!

also: i suggest you get some sleep (maybe a few hrs depending on when your test is) then study up until the exam. that's worked best for me in terms of memory recall during the exam after a night of cramming.

If you have 3-6 weeks, then you should cram now, take the test and see what you get. If you do well, stay in the course. If you don't, take the W. One W does not matter.

Also, if you have this major test, why are you posting on forums instead of studying?

Definitely take a deep breath. Then, make this thread a bookmark or even your homepage. You'll want to kick this habit and reduce the amount of times that you're in this position again. It'll of course happen, but it seems that just telling yourself "don't do this again" probably won't work, it doesn't for me.

Also, you've got time to make up for it. So, take a deep breath, get studying. You'll be fine.

You'll be fine. Cram, cram, cram! 😀

Does your professor drop a test? If so, it might not even be a problem. Still, you've got the whole night.

Sadly, I remember that I have tests, and still get to the night before the test without having studied the whole material. 🙄

Get an hour or two of 😴 though. 👍

You're pretty much done for.

Haha, you clearly didn't read the post closely enough or are just too far separated from the process that you've become another terrible advice-giving adviser (which would make you among the majority).

If you even think about dropping a course and getting a W medical schools refuse to even look at your application.

FACT.

OP, this person is what is referred to as a "hater".

The accepted definition of the word "hater," according to Urban Dictionary is:

"a speck of dust, sugar or tobacco in a glasspipe full of chrystal meth. It ****s up the whole batch."

In other words, ignore people like this who will throw in conflicting, useless information so they can make a joke that only selfish, unempathetic jerks will laugh at.

Take your test, if you don't do well, withdraw.

so i'm not sure what your problem is. you have a test tomorrow, but you haven't started studying...? whats wrong with studying for it tonight?

Yes, we need to know what happened....perhaps (s)he dropped the class?

Is eagerly awaiting...

but will not peruse more than 2 pages of threads to see the end results
