Would anyone be interested in an SDN chatroom-guided review session? We can make it like a classrom with certain topics discussed each week. I can try to get it started but overall this will be for you guys taking the MCAT. Tell me what you would like to see and if you would be interested in this. SDN has a chatroom which can make discussions quicker and easier.

Excellent idea, getting live feedback or lectures sounds great... I'll like to see it moderated by an experienced/knowledgeable SDNer, and to be 247 if possible. Topics covered could be voted on to make the process more democratic and benefit the most people at any given time.

Great idea🙂🙂

Topics can be presented in a structural format such as a syllabus or in order of popular preference. The chatroom found here has and will always be 24/7 but we will need pre-set times for a topic discussion with moderator(s). Currently, I am looking for some input and ideas. If it sounds like a lot of people would be interested, I can make this into a regular thing.

Would it be better as a lecture so only the lecturer can talk for the 1st half and then maybe answer questions at the end? I think it might be a little bit crazy if tons of people were in the room all at once...

If we have a large audience (e.g. >15 users) then we can most probably have the lectures from one speaker, however, I think the best way to learn would be to actively participate. We can determine this during the course of the week, but so far I plan to start this sometime in the next 2 weeks. The topics of discussion can be conducted in several ways. One of which is going through the Biological Sciences and Physical Sciences Topics . Another would be following a similar structure as MCAT companies--going through only the topics that are most important or have the most difficulty/misconceptions.

I would like more people's input as this is for you guys.

great idea...!
i would definitely visit these sessions if things workout here at SDn

yes, for sure. although, i would prefer if you could start it sooner than 2 weeks from now. I only have 5 weeks till my test, so the sooner the better! 👍

I'm definitely game, all depending on time. I think a schedule would be best. It would help those know what sessions are when. the only problem I foresee with the schedule is that those good in that particular session might not attend, which would detract from the knowledge that could be gained. This could possibly be overcome, by allowing those in attendance at previous session have first priority when it comes to questions. But that could be hard to manage.

Oh, and as far as "lecture" do you mean read lecture? Or is there some sort of voice over IP that would be activated?

What topics would you guys like to see for our first discussion? Please PM me your preferences. You may refer to the Biological Sciences and Physical Sciences Topics for ideas.

Please list the topics in an organized fashion (such as the following or similar):

A. Biological Sciences
.....1. Biology
.........a. replication
.........b. transcription/translation
.....2. Organic Chemistry
.........a. seperation techniques

You may also make special requests such as, "connecting different concepts, systems or theories."

I will keep to only one subject matter (e.g. Biology, Organic Chemistry, G-chem, or Physics) per lecture and will rotate each week. This will become clearer after the first session so please bare with me for the time being. If there are not enough PM or people with preferences, I will choose a topic that I feel would be most important to cover.

Thank you,

Great idea! I would suggest recording the chat session or at least the important parts of it and then making it available for people who couldn't be there in person.

Yeah this is a good idea, but I disapprove of your post. 😛

I will need 3-4 volunteers who will be availiable from 10-11pm PST on Saturday 04-11-09 to try out a stimulated MCAT review session. This will be an interactive session where I will pose questions, problems, and go over topics that students have difficulty with. You are more than welcome to ask relevant questions about the concepts or content, however, specific homework or mcat problems will not be answered during the session as this can be easily posted in the Q & A forums. I will also go through a few function tests on the IRC and am looking for patient users who wont mind helping. At the end of the session, however, I would need some feedback and suggestion to improve the lesson plan/format/etc. Please contact me if you would be interested in volunteering. Thank you

I will post an update on this project sometime next week, including a poll of what topic we should cover next. The subject has already been chosen to be physics. You may find the first session (digestion and related concepts) here: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=618709
