Hey guys,

I am going to be a 2nd year fp this July - just finished a rotating internship. I have some $$ left from educational stipend. Any books you'd recommend for FP?

Thanks in advance.

Congrats on finishing that tough first year. Light at the end of the tunnel!

Here's what was on my bookshelf at that time:
- Swanson's Family Practice :good overview of every branch of medicine, with a front-line office/generalist lens

- Primary Care Secrets : easy question and answer format, very crammable if you want to cover all necessary internal medicine in 1 weekend :shifty:

- Merck Manual : The bible of medicine, literally, those pages are tissue-paper- thin. A good reference for basics when all else fails and you're frustrated by internet searches for an obscure problem or clinical approach.

- Throw in some journal subscriptions for good measure, check out:
American Family Physician
Australian Family Physician
Evidence Based Medicine (by BMJ)

Thanks.
Is there a big textbook analogous to Sabiston for surgery; Harrisons for medicine that I should pick up?

I believe that Swanson's would likely qualify, as stated above.
