With a 3.6/32/Asian/average EC's, LOR's, essays, etc./CA resident I knew I had to apply early and broadly to get in this cycle so I sent in my primaries to 30+ schools in early June, used old threads to prewrite secondaries and got my letters turned in early to be complete at most places by mid-late July.

August comes and goes.....no interviews invites
September come and goes.....no interviews invites

FINALLY today I check my email after lunch and find an interview invite from Hofstra. At first I'm ecstatic but then I find out when trying to schedule that the earliest date is in February. So now I'm a little subdued and I go on the Hofstra thread from this cycle and find this gem:

6000apps, 800 interviews, 60 class size I believe

Seriously? Unless this school has an atrocious yield rate it looks like I have a < 25% of getting in. Compounding that with my late interview date and for all intents and purposes I'm fighting for a spot on the waitlist at best.

tl;dr

at first I was like:

The Med School Gods are angered because you failed to perform the ritual sacrifice of ten lab rats on the day you submitted your app. Their anger is severe and their punishment will be the endless torment of your soul withering away as you wait in app limbo for good news that may, or may not, ever come....

I share the same fate it seems.....the Med School Gods are cruel indeed

Despite the many, many, many awful posts you've made in the past, I actually feel somewhat sympathetic for you. 😵

LOL

JK

NOT REALLY. 😀

How pissed are you that I have a 29 and the same GPA and 3 interview invites (white male). I'm sure you'll get more bud.

Yeah but what's your state of residency? I'm sure one or two of those interviews are in-state unless you have some wicked awesome EC's.

Well it's a new school so most people who get accepted probably don't want to take a chance. So if they get the opportunity to attend a more established school, then they'll take it. At least you're one of the 800 and not the 5200

*Shrugs*... with your stats 68% of similar applicants were accepted over the last 3 years, which means 32% were not. 😉

I'm from Maryland have a lower MCAT, way lower GPA and have 5 interviews so far. I really feel your pain man, I want to send out my sincere apologies to you for being a California resident. Good luck though :xf:

I feel for you, I have similar stats to yours and a CA resident. Just stay positive, I'm sure you'll hear back from more schools in October.

I can sympathize. If you were a resident of my state you probably would've already had a couple interviews by now, at least.

Those faces by the OP are hilarious.

I love being asian and living in SOUTHERN california.

😀

I sacrificed 6 lab rats hours before I got my first acceptance. True story.

hey. sorry about your situation! I'm kind of new to the whole process and I dont get the whole "california" thing. Why are californians at a disadvantage ?

Sorry about the frustration thus far... Well, extra sorry since your a SDN-regular with entertaining posts.

But anyway, how many schools have you been rejected?

It sounds like they are doing the old "back-burner" routine with you. I bet more invites will trickle in during the upcoming months.

Because there are so many California pre-meds, the saving grace for many applicants (i.e. the "increased likelihood of acceptance at your in state school") is no longer applicable.

Also, the fact that all Californians are irrefutably Asian doesn't help - since, as this thread established earlier, the Med School Gods don't like Asians.

hey OP just curious: what is your sGPA?

Sorry to hear that flatearth. I hope everything works out for you. You are definitely an entertaining part of SDN pre-allo.

probably because you're a derp

OP's story confirms what we've always known: administrators, and other people with influence further along in their careers, do read SDN.

If your interviews are at all like your posts then you will need a lot more than 1 interview, my friend.

Oh I dunno, I'm sure there are at least two people in California that fits: 3.6/32/Asian/average EC's, LOR's, essays, etc.

...Or maybe they just rejected everyone with those stats in a shotgun-esque approach of eliminating Flatearth???

That wasn't what I was really getting at. I was getting more so at the content of post history and how you play with others on this website.

Also, people can be identified by other facts that they post.

I don't think Adcoms have enough time to play detective in post histories to uncover most people. Flatearth wasn't an egregious enough troll (imo) for an adcom member to investigate further. Now if it was that Etzio guy, I would've wanted to find out more about him

What's the reason for people not liking the OP?

I think it is a bandwagon -- I don't remember him blatantly insulting people (like the aforementioned "Etzio" troll), OP just posts inflammatory/controversial opinions that typically, if nothing else, serve good entertainment value to an otherwise dry forum.

Although, Etzio (Asian from California) was banned - and, no, he wasn't banned for being an Asian from California... But maybe OP is him? Plot: thickened.

Exactly this. My post was just poking fun. I do feel for you flatearth - I hope something comes through for you!! :luck:

He has said true things like the fact that some schools are more difficult than others, URM makes it easier to get in with lower stats, people usually go DO because of lower stats etc., and this upsets some of our more sensitive colleagues. If you are a Hispanic male, at an unranked school, with low stats, and are applying mainly DO, he would probably be your mortal enemy 😉.

I agree with Frasier. You are probably just getting passed up for the earlier set of IIs. Hopefully you get some in the next couple months :luck:.

Part of the problem is that he doesn't merely say things (of dubious veracity, btw); he whines about them. Like creating a thread to whine about getting his first interview invitation

He has also said false things. I mean, just look at his username.

Maubs I just posted an obscure pop culture reference in the "Once bitten twice shy" thread... Please tell me you know it.

I had the same reaction when I saw the thread title. 😉

You did it. You made me Google Everest Medical college.

That's really rough man. I would suggest sending follow-ups to some of these schools. Do you have any personal or local connections to schools?

Seriously though. People can't just judge you based on some bitter posts.
