******Official Gen Surgery Match 2012******

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Spartanburg, SC. #1!!!!!

Landed a categorical spot in what I consider my home institution after a prelim year.

Mount Sinai Hospital--#1 choice YAY

with 12 * for SLUser11 🙂

Congrats! News like that needs at least 12 *s.

Congrats to everyone else as well. It's a very emotional day. I'll be interested to hear if any of you end up having a super-drunk conversation today with your future program director....

med school classmate of mine had a (non-drunk, no less) conversation with her PD in which she expressed her grave disappointment at matching with them!!

Wow, your classmate is very stupid.

UIC - Metro which was my number 1 choice!

Headed to Santa Barbara!

(And I had what I'd like to think was a very professional phone conversation with the program coordinator despite being s/p a few cocktails)

They only take 3 interns so the likelihood of the other two being SDN stalkers is low but... is anyone out there? Bueller?

Sadly we're not going to hear from many people who didn't match in their top 3 here. 🙁

Just the self-selection process of SDN.

I don't think we're going to hear from many people in general. The responses on these match threads have been decreasing every year, but there's usually 2-3 times the number of posts that we have in this thread.

I'm not sure why this is changing. I think it's a combination of factors:

1. SDN is more ubiquitous, and there's increased paranoia about people losing anonymity.

2. Old players in the forum dominate conversations (plus or minus any bullying) and this either intimidates the students, or just makes them less interested in posting.

3. Match day was a Friday, then it was St. Patty's Day, so there's a collective SDN hangover that will carry into next week.

4. People are taking what they need from the site without giving anything back. This, of course, isn't new, as most people posting during the interview season typically appear out of nowhere in November and disappear at this point.

5. As you mentioned, there's a selection bias, so an SDNer's ego may prevent him/her from sharing that they went low on the ROL. Since people are applying to and interviewing at more places these days, the average landing point on the ROL should be trending toward a higher number.

Oh heck, I'll add to it. Going to Orlando Regional, my #2. Can't complain.

Yeah, I worry about this too. Over the years, I've seen users who only pop up and post threads asking various questions when it's time to apply to med school...or study for Step 1...or prepare for the Match.

The hubby got Savannah (#1)! He went to med school there, so it was an easy choice since we both know everyone and the town! Very excited! Congrats to everyone!
