I know I saw this posted a while back, but my search skills are slacking tonight.

Let's say, hypothetically, one procrastinated on studying and is about to take the GRE in 3 days, not that I'd ever do that. But let's say one gets a really bad quantitative score and then retakes the GRE in another month and does better.

Does said dismal first score disappear? If I don't send it, will the schools not see it at all? Or do they see all scores?

Trying to study now but... 😴😴😴

Every score you've gotten will show up. They send the whole record, not individual scores.
The schools will take your highest.

How badly do you think it reflects to get a low score and then improve it? I'm wondering if it's better to pay the fee to reschedule and take it later and do well once, or just wing it the first time and see where I end up.

No worries!! I'm in the same situation. I decided to schedule my very first attempt right after a 25 unit semester, leaving approximately two full days to study, and the result? +pity+

Not too mention I met with one of my more handy to have LOR writers today and he asked to have my GRE scores as a point for writing a strong letter. :scared: I told him I screwed up the first one and wouldn't be able to take it again until end of August/ 1st of September. Sigh. Thems the breaks. But to get to the point, you are not alone. Alot of people screw up their first and even second or third attempts. It does show character to take it again and an an even better impression is made if you can get those points up. YOU CAN DO IT!!
And hopefully, so can I.

Actually, they just changed their policy about sending scores this month. You can either send your most recent score, or you can send all of them on the day of the test. I think you can choose which ones you want to send after, but you have to pay of course. 🙂

I'm wondering if the schools will allow this though. I guess as long as your most recent one is your best one, that's good. The schools might actually appreciate not having to pick them out 👍

Another sending scores question:

Is the GRE like the SAT where I get to send four free score reports when I take the test? Because that would save some real $$.
Can I search for the school scores or write them down on paper I can have with me or what? No way I can remember four four-number codes with everything else going on in my brain that early in the morning. I'm not a super spy or anything.

Yes to the first question. Yes to the second, too--you can look them up-- but I'd try to remember them, as some are difficult to find/require the secondary code (0617 for vet school).

I was all worried about the school codes because they don't let you bring ANYTHING into the testing room. But you'll be able to look up by school and then department. So silly things like remembering what campus the school is on is important or making sure it's university of vs. state.

Unfortunately, they don't allow you to walk into the room with anything. I was even warned that if I went in wearing a jacket, I couldn't take it off. I made the decision not to wear it since I was sure I'd be sweating bullets, and was right to do so.

I didn't actually realize that 0617 was the universal code for the vet schools. I figured that out after a few schools specifically said to put that number in. For the schools that I didn't use the 0617 code, they still ended up getting the scores...it just took some of them a while to find it cause I'm sure it was sitting in some random office in a different building. I think I only had one score report get lost in the mail though.

Some schools don't need the 0617 vet med departmental code because the institution code is for the CVM itself, not for the university as a whole. So for some where you didn't use it, maybe it didn't matter?

ETS doesn't actually physically, like USPS, mail score reports, though, right? I can't believe that this wouldn't all be done electronically at this point...

It's based on the school. If they receive them electronically, they'll send them electronically. But I think they only send the electronic ones a couple times a month. Otherwise, I believe they are put in the mail. My one to OK State got lost that way.

👍👍This. I sent scores to wrong campus of Univ of Illinois, and that cost me the $28 to resend it to the right campus. There is no campus cross-talk.

They let me take my paper with the school codes on it into the testing room. Of course, they examined it first to make sure there was nothing else on either side...and then I didn't even need it because of the way searching works.

All schools are different when it comes to which scores they take. From the schools I've looked at, they take either your most recent test or they average all attempts (haven't came upon any that just take your highest, but not saying they're not out there). I'm not sure if the new policy mentioned affects the schools that average your attempts. You would probably have to contact them directly and ask about that.

I know it's too early to be freaking out about not being accepted this year, but anyway... Does anyone know if UF Vet accepts transfer students?
