:welcome:

I started this thread for those taking the MCAT on 04/24/09, I searched this site but couldn't find any thread for this test date. I just registered today, and I'm looking forward to 2.5 months of cranium-busting so that I can put this "four-letter-word" behind me once and for all!!!! :diebanana:

So sign up people and lets support, motivate and try to keep each other sane!! Best of luck to everyone testing on this date and any date for that matter!!!!!!!!!!

Physics is my toughest subject, and i'm doing the 1001 physics series the second time around now and got about 200 more questions to go. I'm actuallly understanding the concepts better. but I havent taken a FL yet... i should really take one soon right?? How helpful is doing the 1001 questions, for those who have done them and taken the FLs?

I did things the other way round. I finished content review and took a TPR FL. B4 the FL I already knew my weaknesses (Chem, Orgo) but wanted to validate them. I had BS 9 and PS 8, with weak performance on the Orgo and Chem sections not surprisingly. I also realized I need to really master some Bio concepts rather than understand them generally. So now I'm gonna hit those EK 1001s in Orgo and Chem to shore up my weak areas then take another FL and bascially keep repeating the cylce of diagnosis (via FLs) and remediation (via EK 1001s etc).

My advice will be to take a FL or two to validate ur weaknesses, and u always learn something from the FL even in areas ur solid, that way ur can tailor your practice to better suit ur needs.

figured our thread needed to be revived. only 2 weeks from tomorrow!!!

i just want to be done with it. is anyone doing anything fun after the test? it will feel good to have a life again. i get to go out to california about a week after the test and relax by the pool 😀 can't wait.

bahamas sounds sweeeeet.

what are you guys' FL averages like? my scores are seriously all over the place, i don't know if i even really have a representative average. i've gotten as high as a 40 and as low as a 29, with a 31, 34, and 35 in the middle. no clue what i'm going to get on the real thing :scared:

Ziggy -

Those are all great scores!! Congrats. I am still struggling in the mid-high 20's range. Man, I want to break a 30. Anyone have encouraging stories of people who have increased their score for the real thing?? I am busting my but over here.

K

there are a few threads about scoring much higher on the real test than practice tests! I read them when i start to worry haha it makes me feel better!

I just took a FL and scored 35. Although I am happy about the composite score, I checked the answers and found out that about 30% of my mistakes were on questions that I ought to get right- I either tend to overthink or I miss important parts of the question (like the ion concentration instead of molecular concentration). OMG! I'm going crazy. The more I study and learn, the dumber my mistakes are getting...and its driving me NUTS :scared:

which practice tests are you all taking? i already used up my aamc's for my first mcat, and am now using berkeley review for this mcat...anyone else using TBR?

Just wanted to stop by and say Hi to my fellow 4/24ers! With less than 2 weeks till the test I'm feeling really good with my prep but I still have alot of passages and FLs to take to iron out the kinks. I feel your pain Workforsuccess, most of my mistakes are me either not reading the question/passage well enough or reading too much into an answer choice. I just can't wait till its all said and done. Best of luck to everyone, lets kick some serious ass.

BRING... IT... ON!!!

Good luck, y'all - can't wait to hear your impressions after the test 🙂

Best of luck to all. Personally, trying to keep my nerves at bay over here as I know that will lower even the best of scores!

Thank you for the encouraging responses to my last post. Here's hoping hard work pays off.

Just took my last practice test, the infamous #10, and scored a 33. Bring it!

is anyone else freaking out right now? I am trying VERY hard to stay calm bc i know no matter how well i know things, freaking out will def hurt me the most in the end. BUT...i can't help but think crazy thoughts about seeing the passages and realizing none of the info ive been studying is there and i just wont know the answers to any of the questions! i know its unrealistic...but after reading the march 28th posts, i am just very scared. this is already a re-take for me and ive worked so hard for the past months. im just worried my hard work won't pay off 🙁

Why is 10 so infamous? Is it because it was the last one to be released, hence, arguably most representative of the current tests?

For many people on these boards, AAMC 10 has been their lowest score out of all their AAMC practice tests. Someone here (ksmi117) got a 33 on her AAMC 10 and ended up with a 40 on the real MCAT. I guess AAMC 10 has a much harsher curve/scale.

Gottcha... I agree, 10 was tough. I've noticed that a lot of people are saying that #3 is the easiest and I got to thinking. Many people I feel take 8,9, 10 together and then towards the end of doing FL's will get to #3. By virtue of practice, I think having done #3 after doing three or four other AAMC's prior to that it may seem easier but I don't know if apples to apples if it's any easier. I think a lot of the perceived easier or harder talk comes from the order in which people are taking FL's. I may be completely off base but it's just a thought to throw out there. GL to everyone!

I thought the bio sci section on 10 was way intense compared the other ones.

The VR and phys sci sections were easier though.

But yeah it's the scoring curve that I've heard is a mofo.

TPR says that #3 is easier than the current MCAT and 7 & 8 are more difficult than the current MCAT. I'm testing this Friday and I'm nervous because I'm not getting the 33-40 score that you guys seem to be getting!

33 is the highest I've gotten on any practices. My lowest was 30.

No posts? We're taking it on Friday, guys! Get in here and ask neurotic questions! :scared:

i still haven't taken AAMC 10, but i don't want to take another FL... i'm thinking about just taking the PS today and the VR/BS tomorrow (i have to work tonight). bad idea? should i just take the FL?

Oh so soon!!!!!
Anyone else super nervous because I am. but also super excited to not have to think about it anymore!

soooo excited to be done with it. the timing is perfect because the weather here is going to be crappy all week and then get nice this weekend, so when i'm done with the test i can just lounge in the sun (and drink beer)

Just took my last practice test! (#10 unfortunately haha) I got a 28 on 10 and i have been getting like lower mid 30's before that so im just going to think about those ones and ignore number 10 hahaha...i have looked at other threads and a lot of people say that the verbal on 10 is WAY harder than the real thing...just in case anyone was wondering! 3 more days!

Just took AAMC 10 and got a 28 I was averaging around 32 with both Kaplan and AAMC, really bombed out right now and kind of reconsidering Friday...🙁

Weird, I thought 10's verbal was insanely easy but the bio sci was total murder. I guess we have different strengths.

oh and btw question 54 on verbal according to Kaplan, AAMC made a mistake on the answer, the correct answer is A...So, hopefully it would raise your score by point...🙄

there are a few threads that I found when I searched aamc 10 and they pretty much all talked about how the verbal was really hard but it does all depend on where you are strong!

I JUST WANNA WISH ALL OF U THE ABSOLUTE, ABSOLUTE BEST THIS FRIDAY. I HOPE EVERYONE MAKES A 35 AND UP!!!!!!! U CAN DO IT GUYS!!!!

For me, I'm gonna reschedule for May 22nd. I'm definitely not ready for 4/24. I spent the last 2-3 wks doing schoolwork and prepping for Finals, and took a weekend getaway to maintain my sanity, i needed it!!🙂 It's really tough to juggle f/t work, school and MCAT, but where there's a will there's a way.

Once again very best wishes to ALL of YOU!!:luck::luck::luck:

Oh noooo! I'm getting sick! This is NOT good. I don't feel bad but I've been sneezing all day and I have a runny nose, which is really annoying. What should I do?!? I really want to study just a little bit more today but my friend says I should just try to get a lot of sleep. :scared:

just relax and do some light studying. drink lots of fluids/eat healthy and open a window so you can get some fresh air. the important thing is to not stress out!!

Day after tomorrow! Remember to pack healthy snacks that will fit in your little locker thingie!

I was looking through my practice scores and I just realized that my highest score was on AAMC #10. What do you suppose that means?

I mean, I haven't completed all of the AAMC tests (because I've had those as well as TPR tests) But Test 10 has been my highest of all tests I've taken. Do you think it's a different test or something?

I've been wondering what I should bring as a snack. I was thinking maybe a granola bar, but I know they have a lot of sugar and I normally want another one after 20 mins or so of eating one.

Maybe you do best on ones with harder questions because you slow down to think about them more?

When I look at my test practice diagnostics, I notice that the likelihood that I missed a question is inversely proportional to how long I spent on that question.

There are these really good bars called Lärabars (look in the hippie food section of the grocery... you know what I'm talking about, near the Cliff bars) that are just fruit and nuts and a few spices made into a bar. I keep them on hand during stressful times at work when I have to skip meals. My favorite is the apple pie flavor. They're pretty high in fiber and protein, and their sugars are pretty much all natural fruit sugars.

I'm thinking the old fashion peanut butter jelly sandwich! Good luck to everyone on the upcoming MCAT. Getting a little nervous as it approaches.

I am a big fan of Clif bars! I LOVE the oatmeal raisin walnut flavor...or the snickers marathon protein bars...helps me stay awake! I usually eat it before the writing sample so i can digest a little during that time and be able to focus during BS...

are you guys going to look over anything tomorrow??? They say not to but I sort of feel like I should...just a final review? or not?

I'm going to work on memorization but that's it.

+1 on apple pie, I have one in my backpack right now... but cinnamon roll takes the prize! Funny enough... this is my chosen mcat snack.

I switched from this date a while back so just thought I'd say GL tomorrow everyone!

My transportation plans fell through... frantically trying to figure out how I'm getting to Columbus from Athens Ohio for the MCAT tomorrow! I was planning to go up tonight and stay in my parents' house (they're out of town)... on the off chance anyone from WV/Southeast Ohio is going to Columbus, if you give me a ride I'll pay for gas and give you a comfy place to spend the night and free dinner/breakfast! Vegetarian-friendly, even! You don't even have to give me a ride back because I could borrow my mom's car once I get there.

Oh my gosh binko! I'm so sorry to hear that! Is there a bus that you could take between the two cities? I tried to do a google search for you for buses and here is a site I found (I'm not from that part of the country so if it isn't legit or you already know about it sorry!) www.lakefrontlines.com. The website says its 32 dollars one way and that there is one that leaves at 1 from Athens and arrives in Columbus at 5. There might be other times as well that I did not see. Hopefully this helps! GOOD LUCK!!:xf::luck:
