:welcome:

I started this thread for those taking the MCAT on 04/24/09, I searched this site but couldn't find any thread for this test date. I just registered today, and I'm looking forward to 2.5 months of cranium-busting so that I can put this "four-letter-word" behind me once and for all!!!! :diebanana:

So sign up people and lets support, motivate and try to keep each other sane!! Best of luck to everyone testing on this date and any date for that matter!!!!!!!!!!

My lab partner is awesome and is lending me his car. Disaster averted!

are you guys printing out your registration confirmation and bringing it with you? i called the test center and they said i only need ID but i'm so paranoid that i'm going to get there and they'll be like "whoops you're not actually registered LOL!"

I'm glad you found a solution Binko!

About registration ziggy, I'm not bringing mine. My test center just sent us an e-mail today, so I at least know that they know who I am and that I'm supposed to be there tomorrow. If you're worried, you can call today and check to see if they have you registered.

Also, the e-mail I received stressed not to bring pens/pencils, paper, cell phone or watches TO the test center, so I'd just not bring it.

I, unfortunately, need my cell phone to call my ride, so I was told that I can bring mine but it would have to be off in my locker and I cannot even touch it for the entire duration of being in the test center.

Sorry this is such a long post, but what is everyone wearing to the exam? I'm afraid that I'll be cold, but I heard that if I bring a light jacket and I get hot, I'd be required to keep it on until break time so I can put it in the locker.

I was thinking about a pair of scrub bottoms and a t-shirt...not sure about a light jacket or not. What do you guys think? I'm afraid the scrubs are cheesy, but I feel I'll at least be comfy (Jeans would bother me after sitting for too long).

Good Luck everyone!!! We're going to kick MCAT butt! :meanie:

thanks luun. i guess i won't worry about printing it out.

i'm thinking about just wearing jeans and a nicer shirt... if i wear something too comfy, i get too relaxed and tend to slouch. i want to wear something nicer so that i feel like i'm doing something important, and it will make me focus more. of course it also needs to be something i can sit in for like 5 hours too so jeans will be my happy medium. but i'm sure no one will care what you're wearing. they'll all be too worried going :scared: inside their heads lol

It all depends on what part of the country you are in! I'm in Arizona and even though its 100 degrees outside they pump the AC so it's like 60 inside so I always get cold...I am going to wear a long sleeve shirt and sweatpants. I am also going to bring a jacket just in case...I have to be comfortable or I will focus on my discomfort instead of the test! I tried to do my practice tests in this sort of attire lol so that I could get the feel for it and it works for me!

How early are you guys showing up to your test site? I know it says at least 30 mins early but if you get there super early can you start early? Anyone know?

i'm planning on getting there 30-40 mins early. i just called and the lady said she could start me early if i was there early.

i have this weird feeling that i'm going to be the only person taking it at this testing center... i called and was like "hi, i was wondering if i could make sure i'm registered for a test tomorrow morning?" she put me on hold and came back and went "is your last name xxxx?" and i was like "yes.... how did you know that?" lol

that'd be kinda strange if i was the only one there but at least then i don't have to worry about mouth breathers or people coughing and stuff

That would be so nice to be the only one! I went to my test center yesterday to check it out and they had headsets next to each desk and everything but hopefully I don't have to use them!

Good luck everybody on our MCAT tomorrow. I was planning on doing some last minute studying, but I think I have reached my max. Nothing to do now but hope for the best.

I think I will do some last minute memorization stuff...like equations and stuff...just so I make sure I know them well and don't miss stupid questions because I don't know the formulas.

yea....i'm just gonna review some equations but that's about it. All you guys... GOOD LUCK TOMORROW:luck::luck::luck::luck::luck::xf::xf::xf:

😀dream 45, seek, 45, achieve 45😀

I was planning on being at the center by 7 am, but the e-mail I received said we should arrive no later than 7 am, so I guess I'm gonna be getting there around 6:15-6:30. 😴

And here I spent my entire week calibrating my sleep/wake cycle so that I'd be alert by 7. 🙄

damn what time is your test??

It's scheduled for 8 am like everyone else. But, they told us to be there by 7 am and that we could get started as early as 7:30.

I mean, I'm glad that I'll get through it at a good time, but I'm not sure how it will affect my focus.

I talked to my test center people today and they said NO LATER THAN 7:30 but I think I will be there at like 7:15 so maybe I can start early...I'm going to wake up at like 6 at the latest so I can eat and get my caffeine into my system before heading out!

Hey everyone!!

Hope everyone's past months weren't too brutal.
Going to finish up some last minute studying... then time to watch the Lakers game!

I really hope the test center isn't packed by 7:15 am 🙁

Alright Good luck to all of you!!

international test centers blow. who knew that the proctor would go on a 3 minute tirade during verbal. I was about to about to pull an iraqi journalist shoe throw. luckily she had glass protecting her. I think I bombed verbal. I had no trouble finishing my EK 60 question tests and or with the PR 1 hour tests. But that disruption really threw me off and I was pressed for time, oh well smells like retake.

Good luck everyone! Remember the after-test rules: no specific questions, and if you aren't sure that what you are posting is okay, don't post it.

Best of :luck:!!

Right on, OMBD. I've got your back.

Say what? You've already finished today's MCAT? BTW, do they still give the test on paper at international test centers?

just got back!!!

what did everyone think? i thought verbal was actually pretty easy, except halfway through this girl started hacking and coughing so loud that i could hear it over my headset. i gave her dirty looks and eventually she stopped lol.

PS was way more calculations than i expected, so i didn't have as much time to review as i would have liked, but it felt ok.

i thought BS was hard 🙁

Just got back. I actually expected this MCAT exam to be MUCH harder. I had to guess on the last PS question- didn't have enough time...I made a couple of stupid mistakes but PS was not bad. Verbal was actually OK...I didn't have much problem answering the questions but you NEVER know with Verbal. I actually thought Bio was the easiest section (if u don't consider writing to be a section at all 😀). Overall not bad at all...but I'm kicking myself for getting those couple of PS questions wrong- I was just overthinking.

From the 1/30, 1/31, 3/28, 4/18 threads most people felt that the Verbal was MUCH longer then the AAMC verbals (2-4 paragraphs longer per passage) and the BS section was turning into another verbal because most of the questions required little outside knowledge. What are your thoughts for those who took the 4/24 test?

I thought that verbal and BS were pretty easy but PS was not good. I felt like it hit all of my weaker areas. If I can squeeze by in the PS then I think things will work out. Or I could just become a toll booth operator instead (no offense to the profession)

I thought the verbal was reasonable. Easier than some of the practice tests I took. PS was CRAZY for me...really hard...im good at physics and i felt like it was all chem...BS was more difficult for me than it usually is...i have no idea how i did...i feel like i guessed on sooo many...

i also feel like i guessed a lot, especially on BS. but when i went back and went over my answers i felt like i had chosen the best one... maybe i was just convincing myself of that so i would feel better? overall it felt somewhere between OK and good. hopefully that puts me in my AAMC average. i wish we didn't have to wait a month!!

maybe this is just me, but i felt that the verbal section was markedly more difficult, the passages were much longer...it became a time issue after a while. i always got like 10-12 on the AAMC's and i feel like i'll be happy if i squeeze by with a 8 on the verbal this time...it took all of me not to void my score....

it seems though that some people felt the verbal was reasonable...so maybe this is just me.

:laugh::laugh::laugh:

verbal is the least of my concerns for this exam (next to WS)...I marked so many questions for PS and BS...I hope I was just being paranoid bc I wasn't 100% sure and they weren't normally questions I would mark on practice tests...

Wrote 4/24 MCAT this morning.

PS: heavy emphasis on chemistry rather than physics.

VR: passages in general were easy to read and most were actually interesting; length was standard

WS: one prompt on censorship and another on the media

BS: Heavy emphasis on biology (as expected i guess); only 1 ochem passage which was basic i thought.

Can someone remember the passages they had in the science sections, im drawing a blank for the most part; ill post them as i remember

I am right there with you...i am worried i got below an 8, while my EK average was a 10 🙁

Same exact thing for me. I'm dreading my verbal score. It started out okay enough, but two passages, the second and the second to last, totally killed me. They weren't difficult reads I guess, but they just seemed VERY detail oriented.

PS: I usually do horrible in this section but I thought it was easy today, probably because it was mostly chemistry

Verbal: I thought this section was difficult and really long. I definitely had trouble keeping a steady pace.

BS: I thought this section was hard too and its usually my best section 🙁

haha I am trying to look up answers to questions that I can remember and its looking better than I thought but I can't remember too many...I am waiting for my mind to shut off so I can stop thinking about it...

It is over, there is nothing we can do now! Hopefully we don't have to retake it!! But if we do its ok too I suppose! Either way it is over so relax! (easier said than done I know!!)

I'm really frustrated because the PS was all chem and hardly any physics, and I'm way better at the physics.

VR was ok but kind of hard, and the passages were longer than I expected

BS wasn't bad

Overall I don't feel so great about it. It's pretty frustrating because I've done really well on all my practice exams but I just don't have a good feeling about the real thing.

people keep saying "oh i'm sure you'd have a gut feeling if you did really bad!" but the truth is, not really... i learned while taking practice tests that sometimes i would feel OK about a test and do really well, then on other tests i'd feel pretty good and get like a 29 :scared:

we just have to force ourselves not to think about it... i'll just keep sipping on this beer

Hello everyone,

This is my second time taking the MCAT. I took it on August 15, 2008 and got a 23M

The test today, I felt, was a bit more straight forward. The PS was difficult (for me, I expected it. This is always the section that destroys me). Did anyone else think the PS was difficult?

The verbal was WAY better from my first MCAT. I am not shoving this in anyone's face who thought the VR was difficult. It had its moments today. But you, ladies and gentlemen, had to take the one I took to appreciate this VR section.

WS is WS. The least of my concerns.

BS was not fun at all. The O'Chem was very straight forward in my opinion. I thought the topics on the AAMC and Kaplan practice exams were way more interesting than the BS topics from today's exam.

I hope I did better than my 23M. The only way is up from that score 🙂

Good luck, ladies and gentlemen. I wish everyone recieves their dream score. Well, I know the dream score for all of us 😉 (Ahem...45T...Ahem).

Take care. Enjoy the rest of the day. I can finally go have a beer 😀

First of all....

I'M SO GLAD IT'S OVERRRRR!!!!!!

Ok but really. PS? I was surprised about how much chemistry there was! I feel like i had a much better handle on the physics and there just wasn't much of it.
VR I think was ok, but it's always my best section. There were a couple questions that I kinda thought, "uh...what?" after reading them.
Bio was hard I thought. There were some questions that I definitely completely guessed on. Oh well.

May 26th is when we get scores back, right?
No point in worrying about it till then. :xf:

PARTY!!!! :soexcited:

wow, what an exam today....the PS wasn't too bad, but there was ALOT of GChem and not enough physics, but the verbal passages were WAY TO LONG! and the bio section wasn't too bad but there were some questions that made me say wteff? I don't feel to good about it, and i've been getting like 29-32 on my practice tests too, but we'll c

did anyone else have the passage about the HEXA and HEXB gene and the cleaving of the something or other? i don't remember any of the questions but i remember it being hard and annoying.

Yeah for BS i had:
1) HEXA/B and TSD/ATSD
2) SET (endosymbiont theory),
3) bacteriophage expt,
4) insects vs humans,
5) renal disease/filtration,
6) nucleophilic subsitution experiements.
7) transcription factor, CAD and its inheritance

... probably around 4-5 ochem discretes the rest were biology

For PS, i had:
1) eudiometer (Mg/Al and H2 gas formation),
2) colbalt cmpd ionic elution,
3) ECG,
4) waves travelling in cylinders,
5) 3 acid titrations
6) ultrasound technologies
7) ....

Wow... I really can't remember alot of the passages...

But from what I can remember... Verbal!!! Yikes... def longer than other practice tests... def time pressured... which really got my nerves going...

PS... Not sure if it was that bad... but I can only remember a crapload of Chemistry... and the First passage?!?!? I just remember it being hard.

BS- Thought it was okay overall. There were a few questions where I just couldn't decide from the last two answer choices remaining.

Lost my MCAT virginity today... Overall, it was an exhilarating experience.

Now time to pop some BOTTLES!!
