Thank you members of SDN for all the help when I needed it, I would not have gotten these scores without the forums. Period.

Bio-Kaplan, Barrons AP Bio, Cliff's AP Bio. I read all three and took notes on the things I thought I'd forget. Went over those notes (16 pages of bulleted text) every other day. Each book has it's strong points, I liked reading the same things different ways just to really cement it in. I went through destroyer, but didn't find it very relevant. If you've got days and days of extra time, do it. Otherwise, read AP cliff's for a second time instead.
This section was the least similar to topscore. Just the nature of the questions and the way they go about asking them...for many the answer is very obvious. I came across a few where I was like...does not compute...but I was able to narrow them down usually to 2 choices. I guess my overall opinion is that bio was easier on the real thing, but very different. I finally understand what everyone else was talking about!

GC-Kaplan, ACS, Destroyer. I felt that kaplan was the best resource for this section. I honestly feel that Kaplan has everything you need here EXCEPT for practice. ACS was great for polishing up calculation problems and Destroyer's conceptual problems and solutions were very helpful, however the calculations in destroyer were totally unnecessary. If I could do it again, I would have focused 80% of my energy on concepts because I think that's where I may have lost points.
Very straightforward. 50/50 calculations with answers in algebraic form to avoid calculation. I thought I got every question right, but I guess there are some tricks in there (probably conceptual questions so watch out!) Easier than topscore and somewhat similar as well.

OC-Destroyer, Kaplan. First thing I did for this section was I made a flashcard out of every reaction on the destroyer roadmaps which are absolutely golden. Then I worked my way through the problems and re-did those I felt uncomfortable with. I used Kaplan to fill in destroyer's holes (carbs, IR, NMR). I felt the most confident in this section and I felt like I got every question right, but alas.
This section was about as easy as Topscore, maybe a tad easier. Some questions had a little more twist to them (stereo, NMR) so just think like a test writer.

PAT-CDP. Enough said. Started out with a 18 and ended up getting around 23-25 for the rest.
Keyholes-Easier
TFE-Easier
Angles-Easier
Holes-I actually thought these were harder as there were some folds I'd never seen before.
Cubes-Way easier
Folding-Hardest section. I spent quite a bit of time here. Some odd shapes I hadn't come across previously.

RC-I just did topscore here. I got piano'd and I was shaking my head..noooo. But then I was like hmm, this is a good read actually (I play the piano although I'm not totally familiar with what's inside of them). The only problem is the fact that many of the questions were inference /shrug. I felt like piano was my easiest passage, but also probably the one I missed the most points in if that makes sense.
Technique-I write down keywords for the first 4 problems and then start reading the passage while mapping it out with keywords as well. I don't look at more questions until those 4 are answered even if one is at the end. Once I have a map of the passage, finding the rest of the answers is easy anyway. I had 7 minutes leftover at the end. Overall, difficulty was similar to destroyer.

QR-Math Destroyer. This book is really great for practice problems. I think it was slightly harder than the real thing, but SPOT ON for similarity of questions. I had a few VERY similar questions on my test. I didn't get halfway through this book because frankly it is painful for me to do math for more than 15 minutes, but if I had more time, I would have finished it.
This section was a little bit tougher than Topscore, with a bit more word problems. My advice would be to practice with Math destroyer, and get timing down with topscore. This is the one section that I feel I could have gained some ground on with a little more diligence.

I studied for 3 months, the first month was very light with Kaplan and ACS, as was the second. The last 1.5 months were super intense. When I wasn't studying, I was here, and when I wasn't here, I was pacing in my room deciding what to study. Painful, but worth it.

Thanks again everyone, good luck on your tests/apps.

Good job man. Scores are great.

good luck with the process. even though might not need it.

Thank you x3 and you're welcome! Breakdowns were premium entertainment and really helpful when I was studying. Hope it helps someone.

One of the posters I was anxious to see the DAT end result. Great job man! What schools do you have in mind?

Thanks a lot!

I'm a CA resident and I do want to go to school here, although I applied to 16 schools so my mind is basically full of schools at this point.

Great scores!! Congrats. You made me proud son!!

Dude! Awesome scores bro. We were pretty much close in everything except that you're applying in CA and I'm applying NY. All the best with the app and the process!

Hmmm about the GC section.. Does anyone know if most ppl are getting only a few calculation questions?

I got mostly calculations, and I had no complaints because I much preferred to do calculations rather than dealing with concepts.

wow...amazing score....super congratulations~!

Come back here on August 1st and I will show you even higher score 😀

this may be a stupid question..
but I thought AA score is the average of RC and QR.

So how is two 19s gives you an AA of 22?

Just a curious question...
Other than that..Great score man!

I hope I can score something like that when I take my test in August :scared:

Hey bro congrats on your scores! I'm totally excited I really can't wait to rake my test on the 17th. I just really am having trouble focusing... I'm getting like 19-20 in all sections of my kaplan tests right now with 24 on topscore for orgo, 20 gchem, and 19 on bio. What can you reccomend to improve my score in he next week and a half? I just know that the only tst that really mAtters is the real one. What did you focus on that last week to get ur Chems that much higher?

Thanks for all the the congrats and good wishes everybody! You guys/gals are the main reason I did well and a source of motivation.

AA averages GC, OC, Bio, QR and RC.
I just really am having trouble focusing...
I had trouble focusing as well at some points. I realized that my ability to focus directly correlated with whether or not I was drinking tea. lol it sounds funny, but I made a half gallon of iced tea every day and it kept me studying /shrug. The two days leading up to the test, I stopped making tea and I think I was going through withdrawls or something because I could not study or concentrate for the life of me. Anyway, just a suggestion...but it made a big difference.

Good luck you guys, if you have questions, I'll still be on SDN regularly to answer.

wow I never knew about that.
Thanks for the info. For the longest time I thought its just the average of RC and QR.

And thanks for the tips too, haha although its not really for me.
But I guess I'll give that a try too =P

solid! Im pretty much on the same track, hopefully. Same amount of study time, same Topscore 2 scores....and I have exactly one week to go. What was your strategy for the last 7 days?

I think your DAT score is one of the highest this year on SDN or at least top 10 😀

What was your strategy for the last 7 days?
Throughout my whole time studying I was constantly readjusting my schedule so that I was making the most points in as little time as possible. I could never really skip between subjects more than once a day, so it was usually like Ochem and math one day, Gchem and bio the other with PAT practices in the mornings.
The last seven days were clean up basically. I wrote down any holes in my knowledge and focused on them. For me it was human endocrine, the brain, embryology, diversity, math practice, and keeping fresh on Gchem formulas and Ochem reactions. I almost got lazy when I saw the end approaching but I just sucked down more tea which was a huge motivator believe it or not lol.
I think your DAT score is one of the highest this year on SDN or at least top 10 😀
Nah, I don't think so. Maybe of those who posted breakdowns. My AA was 96.4% and a lot of people take the test. Those on the top are pretty likely to be here on the forums I would think. I appreciate your optimism though 😀

if u have destroyer 2009 may u please point out a conceptual problem and what to expect on dat, cause i am very confused and no one is there to help because everyone is afraid to help someone, because maybe they will get in trouble.

This was in response to a PM from KittyKC, thought I'd put it here for everyone else also.

Hi Kitty, thanks a lot! Let's see, the most points can be scored reliably in a short while on Gchem and Ochem with gchem being a little easier. Read Kaplan Gchem and do the problems. Really focus on the conceptual info in the book. Then do all of the gchem in Destroyer and circle those that were difficult. Just set up the answers so they are in algebraic form and use a calculator to verify since you won't be doing the calculations on the test (most answers are in algebraic form). This will save you some time.
For ochem, first memorize the roadmaps section however you feel suits you best. This is key. Then go through the problems circling those that tricked you. Do those again later on so that it stays fresh. Always go back and make sure you still know those roadmaps.
Bio is next in terms of improvement per time spent. (at least for me.)
Kaplan bio and Cliffs will carry you through bio. Read them and write down what you think you might not remember. Don't worry about details. Use topscore to get a feel for how in depth you should get. Keep the notes of the things you won't remember and go over them regularly between studying other materials.
Math is next. Destroyer's math is good. Math destroyer is better, but you must realize that all the time you spend on these two sections will not yield you very much in terms of attractiveness to dental schools. Schools don't care much about QR, so you are just protecting your AA essentially. You are basically trying to avoid getting low scores.
For reading, everyone's different. Read the original post if you'd like; it may help, maybe not.

Good luck! I think 6 weeks is enough time to do very well. Like you, I have been out of school for a while (2 years) so it took me a little more time, but it will all come back.

if u have destroyer 2009 may u please point out a conceptual problem and what to expect on dat, cause i am very confused and no one is there to help because everyone is afraid to help someone, because maybe they will get in trouble.
Like I said, I won't give you questions that were on the test. Conceptual problems are self-evident in their existence, and my advice would be that if it is conceptual, you should know it period. That goes for all sections especially the chems. On the DAT expect simple calculations on gchem and simple to difficult conceptual questions. Know it all and aim for a 30 and you will get a good score, maybe not a 30 but good nonetheless.

if u dont mind can u find a problem in destroyer which explains what a conceptual question is please .. thank u for ur time

Yes, I can. For example, on chemistry know problems 1-190 (not sure how many on the '09 version). Not to be harsh, but the best advice I can give you is to know it all. If I point you to a problem, it may or may not be on the test. Seriously, DO THEM ALL and I can assure you that some of them WILL be on your test. The only thing on destroyer not worth doing was calculating out each Gchem question because most of the answers on the test are written out in algebraic form. Just use a calculator to verify that you did it right.

thanks for all ur help, i dont know what i would have done with out u, i would have never looked a destroyer

Excellent scores and very well deserved. Now put down the tea and post some pics of you off the caffeine. Congrats again!

Congrats on your score~ looks awesome... praying mine comes out good as well...

Question: Do questions from Bio Cliff help? I currently have the book without the CD and if the questions help, thinking about buying another book with CD; I am looking for Bio practice questions (I also have destroyer as well)

Thank you!!

Thanks! For Cliffs questions, I just used them as a gauge to determine which chapters I needed to review. They were pretty simple, but so were most of those on the DAT. I did them, but I don't feel they helped THAT much. Reading and taking notes on stuff that wouldn't stick was the best for me. Destroyer questions were way harder than the real thing...but the explanations in the back were a good read. Good luck

hey.. the piano passage was just about how it works and built????
