For the 2 or 3 of you that said harvard or columbia, im curious why you would have those schools as a first choice. Do you anything about them??

my oral surgeon is a harvard grad...he was class of 04 i think...he said stats will get u an interview at harvard...but ur personality will get u in.....so u just gotta be wat they are looking for.

For me though....im not sure which school is number one for me. i live in florida so u wud expect me to go with uf cuz its cheap but im not sure if i want to live there. id love to go to a cali school but seeing as to how im not a cali resident...thats a long shot🙄...i cant really pick a school without properly visiting it (interview). MY number one pick is N/A

Yup, it cant be said any better.

probably going to get flamed for this but...

USC-I liked PBL a lot and after talking to the students, USC seems less stressful than other schools...I dunno if I could handle the 12-finals in 1 week load that other schools have. That kind of ultra-competitive and stresssful atmosphere could burn me out quick. They also have a huge alumni network, and apparently pretty easy to specialize.

UOP-I love the humanistic approach and clinical experience you get. I heard first year is tough but load lightens after. Seems like a good balance of everything(academics, clinicals, building character).

As bad as it sounds, I doubt I'd want to go anywhere else than these 2 schools, they seem to fit me the best. Location is also a big factor for me.

Just curious, what makes UoP's approach "humanistic"? I didn't apply to UoP but I've heard this several times and am wondering what the philosophy entails.

I liked USC very much as well. USC gives students plenty of independence, while providing support. PBL is not for everybody but it is not a monster many vocal SDN members made it out to be.

From talking with Dr. Yarborough, this is what I interpreted it as. Basically it means that everybody is treated as a human being first and foremost.

Interview:
When you go and visit the school, its not just them grilling you with questions and picking you amongst a bunch of stats, its more about if you and the school are a good fit. They want you to ask questions about them, find out more about the school and see if you like it. Essentially not just if you are a good fit for them but if they are a good fit for YOU.
Classes:
UOP wants to work with you, not as a student, but as a peer. They want to do as much as possible to help you succeed. Its a mutual interaction.
Patients:
They want to train dentist to treat patients like human beings. Talk to them, make a personal connection, not just treat them and leave like some sort of factory.

don't know if than explanation made any sense, I guess if you were to sum it all up it'd be treating everyone as equals, no person is superior to the other.

I haven't found one I completely fell in love with every aspects of it... But top 2 so far..

Maryland - Pretty darn cheap + top facilities and tech. But I lived in NYC for almost 4 years.. going back to Maryland life 🙁((((((((.

UPenn - perfect fit.. love the curriculum.. the students are genuinely happy. But so darn expensive and I HATE Philly.

Can't wait to see Columbia and BU this upcoming week.. If only UPenn can move itself to NYC lol.. and make itself public 🙂)). Keep dreaming i kno...

As i asked lol, do you know anything about the school. Columbia may very be the worst school in the country clinically. As for being your dream school, im not sure why?? Also yeah its in NY but do you know where in NY lol. Its in washington heights a pretty crappy neighborhood and not within walking distance of anything in "NYC". That being said its an awesome school didactically and you could do worse going there.

Columbia is
1- my dream school
2- great clinical
3- NY
🙂

My #1's are UW, UCSF, and NYU, but IF i were to get into all 3, i'd pick UW because i'd save a lot of $$$ being in-state.

So much bitterness regarding Columbia. 😕 Is Columbia a rival school for Stony? LOL. Or do you get paid from Stony to spread bad name for Columbia?:laugh:

Haha, just messing with you. But this is the first time you have said that this is your opinion. There is a difference between someone's opinion and quality of a school. Like I always say, all the schools are good but the school that meets your requirements is the best.

I am gonna break the rules by by saying I have 2 #1 choices. UOP and UCSF. Besides those 2 schools, I would go to any school that'll take me.
